Butan was originally designed as a typographic project for the Specialization in Typography Design at the University of Buenos Aires, during the years 2013 and 2014. The project was conceived as a “wayfinding” font, that would be functional for bilingual signage systems. The main guideline for its design was to create a font that could be readable from great distances and it could be potentially used in signage systems. Therefore the neutral aesthetics and clean shapes were very relevant in order to create this particular font.

Empira is a new high-contrasted face. While its principal structure shows some reference to transitional faces, the pronounced graphic shape of its elements are definitely of contemporary origin. It appears crisp, sharp and even somewhat fancy. Empira supports up to 80 languages and its OpenType format allows a wide range of typographic applications. 20 styles offer a fine gradation of the weights. PT Quadrat Grotesk™ was designed for ParaType in 2001 by Vladimir Pavlikov. An expanded sans serif with square letterforms due to what the face was named. Based on the shapes of one of old Russian wooden types. Wooden types were used for placard display composition at large sizes. Their printouts retained wooden texture and traces of handling. These features are reflected in the shapes of Quadrat Grotesk. It is a good typeface for display and advertising typography.

Dan Hardie, a Miami-based graphic artist and creative consultant at Mutiny, Inc. shared an image he’d spotted online of some interesting signage formerly on the front of the Miami Medical Building. Comprised of hand-cut metal characters (with a thoroughly avant-garde “Art Deco meets Modernist” approach), this instantly became a font design idea unusual and quirky enough to develop as a digital typeface. The end result is Office Visit JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Visigoth font was created in 1988 by Arthur Baker for AlphaOmega Typography. He designed it specifically for setting the text of A Dante Bestiary published in 1989 for Ombondi Editions in New York. Highly expressive and unusual letter shapes make Visigoth unique among script faces: it has bold, pen written lines, a slight incline, and a distinct variation in stroke weights, making it ideal for advertising and other display work.

TypeAddiction presents “Gaufre de Bruxelles”, a playful handmade uppercase font. Lowercase letters have filled letters (A, B, D, O etc) and the uppercase letters have unfilled letters. "Gaufre de Bruxelles" means a Brussels waffle in English. The Brussels waffle is a rectangular-shaped waffle and is a Belgian culinary speciality. The characters of the font were inspired by the waffle dough and more specifically the shape that the dough takes when it is poured into the waffle iron.

The name suggests it: the Chiq is based on a well-known system font from Apple's classic Mac OS operating system. By revamping and expanding good old “Chicago“, I want to make that 90s tech charm available for the future. The model consisted of just a single style and inspired me to create “Chiq Bold,” which later became the starting point for the entire font family. The shapes of the Chiq are constructed according to a very simple principle. The contrast of stems and hairlines becomes more pronounced towards the bolder cuts. A few basic shapes form the framework for all characters. The shapes are very regular and sometimes form somewhat unusual figures, which has a negative effect on readability and makes the font rather unsuitable for long passages of text, but results in a very even typeface. This is particularly true for the extra-wide “UltraExpanded,” which is so wide that you can no longer recognize word images but literally have to spell them out. In this way, words are turned into letter bands with a great decorative effect. With variants from “Light” to “Black”, from “Normal” to “Ultra Expanded” and the italics, Chiq reaches beyond its archetype. This opens up a wide range of uses. It is even clearer, even more sober, and to a certain extent speaks an even more modern formal language. Chiq is also a variable font!

I have seen my share of badly stuffed animals. Most of them via pictures, but also on vacations here and there. They all had this really bad handcraft vibe, but at the same time some really ordinary and kind of cute looks. I did my best to capture this look and feeling in my Badly Stuffed Animal font: clumsy letters made with a blobbly pen, with naive and irregular lines - and the conclusion is something super useful for a project that needs an organic handmade look!

Neuro X is a narrow sans serif typeface consisting of three weights with additional rounded versions and matching italics. It was first drawn as an exploration for a headline font and later expanded on to become a full typeface family. Neuro X explores the extremities of narrow proportions whilst also allowing for eccentric cuts.
