Abelarde is a classic medieval gothic style font which combines traditional blackletter style lower case characters with more ornate and decorative capital letters with some nice swash features. We've done some simpler fonts in the same general vein like Cymbeline, Aneirin and Perigord, but Abelarde takes the style to a higher level.

Girder Poster, also named Spurred Gothic, was inspired by showcard lettering samples featured in the book, Commercial Art Of Show Card Lettering, published in 1945. Although similar to Cooper Bold, Girder Poster's serifs are spurred and the design's inception came out of theatrical poster studios of the mid 1900's in New York.

Here is a faithful revival of Gothic Number Ten, released by the Cincinnati Type Foundry in the late 1800s. Not your garden-variety sans-serif, its quirky caps will warm up your headlines. Both flavors of this font feature the 1252 Latin, 1250 Central European, 1254 Turkish and 1257 Baltic character sets.

The basis for Series A Signage JNL is Highway Gothic; a type style design formally known as the FHWA Series. The font was developed by the United States Federal Highway Administration, and originally consisted of only capital letters and figures. Each Letter designation represented a character width from "A" (condensed) to "F" (wide). Due to poor visibility at high speeds, Series "A" was discontinued. At one point lower case characters were added to the various widths of the design, but this typeface revival is based on the original guidelines specified in the 1948 (reprinted 1952) book "Standard Alphabets for Highway Signs" [this was the original name for the FHWA series fonts preceding the eventual name change to Highway Gothic]. Unlike the original, Series A Signage JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Tusker Grotesk is a headline typeface designed for robust and high-impact use. The initial inspiration for Tusker came from postwar typefaces like Haettenschweiler, Impact and Helvetica Inserat which use very high x-heights. Other influences in the condensed end of the Tusker family are old grotesques like Folio Extra Condensed and Stephenson Blake Elongated Sans No.1 with their flat terminals and closed-up apertures. Then as the widths in Tusker grow, the lettering takes some more inspiration from gothic style sans such as Inland Type's Title Gothic No.8, while maintaining the optical weight established in the narrow end of the family. Each width set is duplexed, stackable and is ideal for headlines, logos and bold attention-grabbing editorial design. Tusker has extended latin coverage ideal for western, central and eastern European languages.

Baldione is a highly stylised variation upon a classic Didone typeface, incorporating a globular decorative 'ball' or 'blob' in each character's design. The result has a feel of the 1970s about it somehow and works well in poster and advertising designs with a hint of the outré' about them. Salish is a sans-serif typeface inspired by the art of the Salishan tribes in the Northwest Americas. It draws heavily on the concept of the ‘ovoid’, a wide ovular shape that is flat on the bottom and top heavy, that is central to the art style known as ‘Formline’. Revival 565 is the Bitstream version of type Berling. The face was created by Karl-Erik Forsberg for the Swedish Berling foundry in 1951, with other weights added in 1958. The design is an old style roman, particularly useful for books, journals, and other text applications. Despite the fact that it has higher contrast than most old style typefaces, Berling has the classic features of old style romans with its small x-height, and ascenders that exceed the height of the capital letters. Berling is good for text settings as well as display work. Cyrillic version was developed for ParaType by Manvel Shmavonyan in 2008.

In the spirit of the perestroika changes and following the collapse of the Soviet Union, a group of Russian type designers quit the state-owned Polygraphmash foundry to establish ParaType, the first, and now largest Russian digital type foundry. The ParaType team under the supervision of Vladimir Yefimov creates new typefaces and explores the Russian typographic heritage by making digital versions of existing Russian designs: these include the hits of Soviet typography such as Literaturnaya and Journal Sans. Most ParaType fonts are available in Western/Roman, Central European, Turkish and Cyrillic encodings. The Russian constructivist and avant garde movements of the early 20th century inspired many ParaType typefaces, including Rodchenko, Quadrat Grotesk, Ariergard, Unovis, Tauern, Dublon and Stroganov. The ParaType library also includes many excellent book and newspaper typefaces such as Octava, Lazurski, Bannikova, Neva or Petersburg. Well, it really looks like a pixel font, but it's kid of fake - at larger sizes you will notice the wacky and uneven lines, but it sure do bring back memories of the 80-ies! The historical source to Bad Situation comes from "EXAMPLES OF MODERN ALPHABETS, PLAIN and ORNAMENTAL; including German, Old English, Saxon, Italic, Perspective, Greek, Hebrew, Court Hand, Engrossing, Tuscan, Riband, Gothic, Rustic, and Arabesque, etc." Collected and engraved by F. Delamotte, and first published in 1864. The original alphabet was called "Example Alphabet" (plate 48), by Delamotte.

Rhapsody is clearly showing Unger's love with Blackletters and Gothics. Other than many of the existing Blackletters, Rhapsody is really easy to read. Banner elements appear in the brace and bracket positions, and reversed spaces can be found in the underscore and bar positions. “News Gothic” has been a reliable workhorse of a font since it was created by Morris Fuller Benton and first offered for sale in 1908 by American Type Founders. A clean, legible design used for text copy, it can also double as a light headline face. This reinterpretation (named Columnist JNL) is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Samosata NF is based on Lucian Bernhard’s eponymous Gothic, but it employs all of the alternate characters seldom seen today. Coen Hofmann has rediscovered Blackletter font design and enriches URW’s FontForum with two new and very beautiful fonts: Caxtonian Black and Holland Gothic. Caxtonian Black is a remarkable classical Fraktur inspriced inspired from the fonts used by the famous first English printer William Caxton. Coen Hofmann digitally re-mastered and completed the font for usage with modern technology.
