Page No. 508 was designed by William Hamilton Page in 1887 as one of a series of designs for die-cut wood types for the firm of Page & Setchell of Norwich, Connecticut. Page & Setchell was the successor to The William H. Page Wood Type Company and was sold to the Hamilton Manufacturing Company of Two Rivers, Wisconsin in 1891. 508 is a heavy all-caps font designed for headline work. It has a strong presence that reverses out well (light-colored type on a dark background). Great for retro style posters.

Indento is a multi-purpose modern geometric slab serif for headlines, posters, branding but fairly legible to be used as longer text. The straight and rounded corners combined with deep cuts and asymmetric serifs gives it a distinctive look while still keeping its rigorousness and legibility. The family consist of three weights, each with a companying italic. The extensive character set—513 glyphs in each font—includes support for Central and Eastern European languages and OpenType features like small caps, ligatures, fractions, slashed zero, stylistic alternates and more.

Corso is a clean condensed sans serif font family. It comes in upright, slanted and italic, in six weights each. It includes useful typographic features such as fractions, ligatures and case sensitive forms. Also included are double- or single-storey versions of a and g, you can switch via stylistic OpenType sets. Other letters with alternative forms accessible the same way are ß and ampersand. Corso works especially great for larger size uses such as signage, headlines or posters. But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t also useable for short texts.

The Tang family came to be, when I started studying fonts made for use in very small point sizes, like Bell Gothic. I studied the use of ink traps and went to town with them. Instead of just using them for their purpose: trapping ink to prevent the type getting blotted; I used them as a design feature. With those features Tang works very well in both headline and text use. I use it as a house type, and I've already seen it in a beer and cider labels.

The calligraphy font Banner was designed by Martin Wait in 1986 and mixes the character of the 1940s with that of the 1980s in its forms. The round and somewhat reserved lower case letters make a balanced basis for the generous capitals. Black outer contours surround a white inner area and are heavier on the right side of the figures, making the characters look as though they have shadows. Banner should be used in point sizes of 18 and larger and is meant for lighthearted short texts or headlines.

The compendium Alphabete: ein Schriftaltas von A bis Z listed the pattern for this family of faces under the name Chicago which, owing to the number of other faces using the same name, makes its origins difficult to ascertain. Ponzastura typeface was inspired by Aldo Novarese's Eurostile, but in this case, monolinear strokes took on contrast and stress. The classical appearance of Ponzastura, whose name is inspired by the Italian city Pontestura where A. Novarese was born, is more of a reaction and interplay. The character set supports most European languages and contains ligatures as well as symbols, figures and alternative characters. Its strength is in a simplicity and format; recommended for use in headlines or short sentences. Ponzastura typeface can fill in a gap of high-contrasted fonts of nowadays.

Linotype Pide Nashi is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. German artist Verena Gerlach created a typeface which looks almost like Arabic at the first glance, only with the second do the familiar forms become clear. Rounded lower case letters, generous, sweeping capitals and diamond-shaped ornaments give the font its Arabic feel. This handmade looking brush font is inspired by the titles of the 1959 movie, Imitation of Life, by prolific film titles artist, Wayne Fitzgerald. The 'pastiche' of the font's name derives from the 'imitation' of the film's title, and from the imitation of the brush. OpenType enabled software can make Pastiche Brush feel even more handmade. There are alternates for every letter and number, and most punctation marks and symbols. Every letter has at least one alternate glyph, and more commonly used (in English at least) letters have up to three, so when contextual alternates are enabled, the font automatically cycles through glyphs in a pseudo-random manner. This means no double letter combination will ever contain two identical glyphs. Not only this, but it's highly likely the same word will look different elsewhere in the sentence. The contextual alternates feature also takes care of start and end forms of letters, for an even more handmade feel. This is a great font for headlines in fashion glossies, food packaging where an organic look is desirable, posters, perfume bottles, wine bottles... the list goes on. And with extensive language support, it's going to be a very usable addition to your display font repertoire.
