The Cleveland Type Foundry strikes again, with this delightful little number from their 1893 specimen book, originally named "Mikado". This version takes its name from one of the characters in the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta of the same name, and the name aptly describes the tasty nature of this frolicking face. Both versions of this font include the complete Latin 1252 and CE 1250 character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

It seems only fitting that Pleasant Valley Sundae JNL, a typeface re-drawn from hand lettering on a piece of vintage sheet music, should take its name as a pun on another song's title from a different era. "Pleasant Valley Sunday" was a 1967 hit for the Monkees and was written by the legendary songwriting team of Carole King and the late Gerry Goffin; inspired in turn by a street they'd lived on named Pleasant Valley Way, in West Orange, New Jersey. The record made it to #3 on the pop charts.

Private Sans is a three styles family of humanistic sans serif based on broad pen calligraphy. Its noticeable distinctions -- a vivid irregular nature which is not typical for usual Cyrillic text faces. They can be used exactly as intended, as "decorations" on a printed page, or they can be combined into unusual borders.

Pomerans is a redo of an old font of mine called Suco De Laranja. Since the original font had a citrusy name, I decided to name this reincarnation Pomerans, which means ‘Seville Orange’ in Dutch. I doubt that there are many Dutch people who actually know what a pomerans is! Pomerans is a handmade, all caps font. I kept the look and feel of the original font, but I cleaned up the glyphs, added new glyphs and added additional language support (including Vietnamese and Sami).

Images of ‘lost’ or forgotten signs from the past are on a number of sites all over the web. One in particular partially revealed a vintage sign for “J. Yormark Shoes" behind a barbershop sign at 15 – 8th Avenue in New York City. The sign remained until 2014. The stencil effect made by the formation of the stained glass letters inspired On Your Mark JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. The font’s name is a play on the shoe vendor’s name… “Yormark”.

Franko Luin, Carniola's designer, on this typeface: Carniola is a pastiche of different type designs from the beginning of the 20th century, mostly American. I am not very fond of it, but was convinced to release it by someone who needed a typeface with a time typical feeling. On the other hand: why not use the original typefaces from that period? Carniola has its name from the Latin name of Kranjska/Krain, a principality in the former Habsburg monarchy (Austria-Hungary), now part of modern Slovenia.

After a few months my new typeface "Bankal" is here! To create it, I always tried to keep a 90 degree angle. In French when you say that something is "bancal" it means that it's not right. This is why I choose this as a name because despite the name she is right. And for the K it's just for the style here. The name African Gold is associated with Johannesburg, the "City of Gold"; (the Zulu name for Johannesburg is eGoli). The font was so named for two reasons: the intricate African patterns within the characters of the font suggest the shafts and tunnels of a gold mine, and, as with a gold mine, the richness lies within. African Gold is a display font that is best used at larger sizes, however, it contains a full character set with all accents, special characters, diacritical marks and all the characters are carefully spaced and kerned. The numerals are mono-spaced so that they will line up correctly in columns of figures. The letters of the alphabet are spaced according to their width and are carefully kerned to create an attractive appearance.

Motorix is a typeface of alternatives. A versatile and highly flavorful constructivist design in three weights with corresponding italics, and hundreds of variant forms. Motorix’ interchangeable letterforms yield a multitude of combinations that elicit electronic rhythms and at times take on humanistic forms. The name Motorix is a pseudo-feminized variant (the ‘-ix’ suffix being derived from ‘-trix’) of the German word ‘motorik’, which refers to both electronic music and human motor skills. The typeface lives up to its energetic name, synthesizing precise rhythms and alphabetic waveforms into a uniquely upbeat and spunky typeface.

Derived from the world famous Rennie Mackintosh Font, the Venezia version gives a very modern look to this classic font, especially when filled with a gradient fill in a graphics package such as Photoshop or CorelDraw - although it even looks great "out of the box". The Venezia name comes from the native name of the city of Venice - one of several Italian cities Mackintosh visited on a sketching tour of Italy early in his architectural career. Venice was also one of the venues of an exhibition of Mackintosh's work on a European tour.

I have no fantastic story on how I came up the name to share with you. I am currently not in an asylum, nor will I be in the near future. I also finished this font way before midnight, so it is just a crazy name for a scary looking font! Midnight Asylum was made with a pencil and Chinese ink. It comes with a full set of alternates for the lower case letters, extensive language support and a cute .notdef character, which is also the alternate asterisk glyph.

Creating Halla was a bit unusual for me since I started out creating the italic version first and that inspired the name Halla, meaning to tilt in Icelandic. It is also a fairly common female name in Iceland. “Halla” is derived from old Norse word “hallr” = 'flat stone, rock' or 'sloping, leaning to one side' Halla is a true italic inspired by handwriting and mechanical type. The combination of Light and Italic makes Halla ideal for advertising, branding, signage, packaging and editorial design.
