I remember a tea ceremony I attended in Fukuoka, Japan. The teahouse was set in a small, but beautiful garden and the whole idea of the ceremony was to appreciate the view from the porch. I thought the tea was quite bitter, but the view was unsurpassed. From time to time these memories pop up and I have to use them - that is why I named this font Teacup. ITC Hornpype is the work of California freelance designer Mott Jordan, a cheerful display face inspired in part by the cartoons of the 1920s and 30s. According to Jordan, the typeface's name and three-dimensional quality can be traced to an early cartoon in which a cat blows on a horn with such force that the instrument bulges out. For the three-dimensional look, Jordan added highlights to the thicker strokes to create letters that look as though they were, in his words, squeezed from a toothpaste tube". Inspired by an Austrian artist Erwin Wurm's Fat series, Erwin is a typeface that evokes visual associations of overeating letters, giving the impression of letters on the brink of bursting. This design seamlessly combines an analog sensibility with a bold touch. Erwin is a typeface with a sense of fragility and vulnerability, deeply rooted in analog emotions. Each character is not derived from a model but crafted through a hand-drawing process, making every letter a unique and independent form. This approach reduces regularity between characters while preserving their artistic qualities, resulting in an unconventional letter flow. Erwin underwent a handwriting process but doesn't exhibit an overtly hand-drawn style. Instead, it is a unique display typeface, featuring artistic, comic-style, and humorous elements.
