In 1529, Geofroy Tory, French scholar, engraver, printer, publisher and poet, was publishing the well known so called Champ Fleury, printed by Gilles de Gourmond, in Paris. It is a fully illustrated handbook where the author explains how to draw Roman characters. The font used for the text - a Humane/Jenson type - was not a very beautiful one, but rough and ready, and the book is well known for its capital letters designs. We are offering here the two complete historical type sets and more -- we have entirely redrawn the lacked letters: J, U and W, Eth, Lslash, Thorn and Oslash in the two initial forms. The text font, 1529 Champ Fleury Regular is now containing all characters for West European (including Celtic), Baltic, East and Central European and Turkish language, and the Initial set 1529 Champ Fleury Init is containing two complete alphabets, with a very great effort to be as close as possible to the original pictures.

Franz Kafka’s manuscripts have always been a source of inspiration for designer Julia Sysmäläinen. At first she was just interested in literary aspects but later she noticed that content and visual form can not be separated in the work of this ingenious writer. Analyzing Kafka’s handwriting at the Berlin National Library, Julia was inspired to design the typeface FF Mister – by now a well known classic. Over the years, FF Mister K became a handsome typeface family and even produced offspring: the Josef K Patterns. Some of Kafka’s most expressive letterforms were the starting point for these decorative ornaments. How do the Patterns work? Outlines and fillings correspond to the uppercase and the lowercase letters on your keyboard. You can use them separately or layer them on top of each other. If you write a line of “pattern-text” in lowercase and repeat it underneath in uppercase you get a row of fillings followed by a row of outlines. Now you can color them and then set line space = 0 to get a single line of layered colored ornaments. Alternatively, activating OpenType / stylistic set / stylistic alternates will also unite the two lines to a single layered line. Colin is a fresh, somewhat futuristic geometric sans serif type with a large x-height that, to me, communicates both seriousness and cheerfulness. It supports 70 languages incl. monotonic Greek and comes in 7 weights with a small number of alternate glyphs (ss01) for more flexibility. It features fractions, old style and tabular figures. Colin works great in titles, displays and short paragraphs. And where does it come from? To be honest, the reason for this font is a selfish one. I wanted a typeface where my initials (n and c) look identical, just rotated by 90 degrees. That didn’t completely work but, hey, it’s pretty close.

‘Scion’ is an original design by Alex Kaczun. The inspiration for the typeface came from the Toyota SCION logo, which bears its name. In Alex’s own words, "I loved the simplicity, proportions and hi-tech look of the logo and decided to create an entire new design series based on its unique look". Calluna was born more or less by accident. When I needed a little break from designing Museo I was just fiddling around a bit to see if maybe a full slab serif would be something to have a look at. The first thing I did, of course, was to put slab serifs on the stems of Museo. When I did, something nice happened. Slab-serifs with a direction! I ended up using the idea for something I always wanted to do: making a rather serious text face. The goal was to make a text font, but one with enough interesting details. In the end it all came down to finding the balance in a typeface between the robustness needed to function as a text face and enough refinement to look good as a display font. Amateur Typewriter is a monospaced typewriter font, sampled from a real vintage typewriter, that is so much fun to use. This is Canada Type's second Helmut Matheis revival. Rhino is what Matheis did under the name Mobil for the Ludwig & Mayer foundry in 1960. It's an informal text face with some attractive irregularities relating to the traits of handwriting. The influence of the human hand can be clearly seen in letters like the A, J, Q, R, T and pretty much all of the lowercase. Though obviously inspired by and tooled after the human touch, Rhino's functionality extends to even a page or two of text setting. Aside from its functionality, Rhino gives short paragraphs what the classic immersive-reading fonts are not built for: immediate friendliness and natural humility. Mechanikschrift, roughly German for “mechanical writing”, is a typeface from Noah Rothschild and Victory Type. The aesthetic of this font is just what its name points towards: machine-like structure with a German flare. Minimalism is often associated with German design, and Mechanikschrift is a minimalist typeface. Furthermore, the designs of the characters, outside of the general theme of squared-off corners and angular appearance, are related to Herbert Bayer’s work at the Bauhaus.

From the designer, Tim Ahrens... I started designing this typeface about half a year after learning that Frutiger was not a new brand of sweets and that Garamond is not the name of a fragrance. In time it became clear that designing a sans serif must always be considered as a transformation of traditional serifed typefaces instead of deriving it from typefaces that have been derived from others which have been derived from others again. I did not want Aroma to be one of those odourless and tasteless typefaces wich sacrifice a natural feeling and the characteristic shapes of the letters to neutrality. I think that beauty often evolves unintentionally. For example, I am fascinated by the beauty of airfoils, which are actually a careful transformation of a bird's wing. I love their anorganic and abstract shape which still bears the essence and all the complexity of what they are modelled on. This is exactly the formal concept behind Aroma. Many of the outlines are actually parabolics. The small r, for example, consists exclusively of straight lines and parabolics. I decided to give Aroma more stroke contrast than it is usual for sans serif designs. Many strokes are slightly convex, which gives the font an anorganic feeling. The font was intended to have a feel similar to the antiqua. More specifically, it is based on Old Style Faces. The character of those fonts, which were cut during the Renaissance, is still inherent to Aroma.

A very heavy yet elegant small serif font, powerful but very legible. Great for punching up your ads. Can be used in numerous ways from magazines to paperbacks.

Chameleon consists of 16 fonts based on 3 completely different designs. Different but specially designed to complement each other. Together they form a well-balanced design kit suitable for many different projects, e.g. invites, menus, magazines, brochures, packaging, etc. Chameleon comes in three styles: 2 outline versions and a basic (solid) version. To combine Chameleon with Chameleon Fill, you will need an application that allows you to stack text frames. Once you start layering different fills, like a true chameleon, you can change colors and patterns. Simply place several layers on top of each other, choose from 7 fills to determine your pattern and assign a color to the fill. Always place one of the outline versions of Chameleon on the top layer. Chameleon Pen was added to give you the possibility to spice up your design with a personal touch. It is a charming handwritten font, which was first written out with a dip pen and ink, then scanned in and digitalized. It comes in regular and italic. And then there is Chameleon Sketch for a bit of nonchalance to add to your designs. The Outline, Hatch and Solid version can be used separately, or stacked to create a shadowy or multi-colored effect.
