The 1930s French publication L'Art du Tracé Rationnel de la Lettre was a treasure trove of font revival ideas from the Art Deco era. One example featured a serif typeface with a number of stylized characters. This is now available as French Bistro JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

Take Charge JNL is based on the opening title card for the 1936 film "The Charge of the Light Brigade" starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, Donald Crisp and David Niven. The typeface is a simple, bold titling font with the slight feel of Art Deco influence in its design.

For years, the print ads for the Hickok Jewelry Company [renowned for their line of men's belts, suspenders, wallets, cufflinks, etc.] featured its name and related main line ad copy hand-lettered in a condensed monoline with Art Deco styling. This has been reproduced in Fashionable JNL, available in both regular and oblique versions. For those of you who are wondering: yes, the founder of the company was a distant relative of "Wild Bill" Hickok.

The convey typefont family merges essential features of classical serifs and sans-serifs and creates a character with a contemporary, open appearance. The elements of an antiqua typeface are formally reduced to a minimum, still supporting the eye in keeping lines and maintaining outstanding reading properties. The font was created as a cooperation project with media theorists and was designed and perfected through analyses, reading tests and the application of media psychological and sociological findings.

Roundy was designed by F.K. Sallwey and appeared with Linotype in 1993. This calligraphy font is true to its name with its soft, round characters. The regular strokes give text an easy, relaxed feel. For variation and emphasis, Sallwey included swash capitals in this font. As initials, the swash characters add zest to texts and can be combined with other alphabets. The calligraphic elegance of Roundy is a perfect contrast to constructivist typefaces.

Geulwoll is a Korean word for letters. HU Geulwoll is a handwritten font that conveys a calm feeling by creating a lyrical and old atmosphere. In order to emphasize the feeling of writing with a marker, each end was made to fall diagonally, a characteristic of the marker. Bold Fashion is a heavy slab-serif font of the disco era. To canoodle means to hug and kiss passionately. I leave the rest to your imagination. Canoodle is also a very adorable font - some would even go as far as calling it kissable. It is an all caps typeface, but upper and lower case differ and love to mix and match. I won’t guarantee a spot of canoodling if you use this font, but who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky. A wonderful, very condensed, 3D font. A few years ago, I was commissioned to digitize the letters from this typeface for the words 'LEGENDS OF RODEO' and liked the look of it so much that I went ahead and digitized the rest of the alphabet. This CastleType revival is very clean-cut and contains uppercase, numerals, and punctuation. Sculptura was originally designed by the Swiss designer, Walter J. Diethelm (1913-1986) in 1957.

There really is no nonsense in this font - but the name comes from my original sketches, where I drew a lot of nonsense! Actually, I couldn't figure out what letters to use from the sketches, so I picked them all!!! That's why each letter has 10 different versions! Vincenzo is based on a beautiful condensed typeface from the 1920s or earlier; original designer unknown. This is a "Modern" style with fine slab serifs, vertical stress between thick and thins, and high contrast. What is unique about this design is that the triangular serifs (e.g., E, F, L, T, etc.) do not gradually taper as they join the rest of the letter, as would be the case in Bodoni and similar designs. Uppercase only.

Shinano is an old province of Japan. Kobayashi Issa (1763 - 1828), a famous Japanese Haiku poet and Buddhist priest, was born here. Together with Bashō he is my favourite Haiku poet. Shinano font was hand made using a Japanese brush pen. At first glance it may look like a messy script, but underneath its rough appearance beats a poetic heart. Comes with some alternates and ligatures and a whole lot of diacritics.

After visiting Milan, I stumbled upon the Sforza castle, and found some interesting type on the inner courtyard castle walls. I became inspired by what I found, and decided to design a typeface based off of the limited quirky letterforms. Thus Sforza was born, with ligatures galore, alternates, pictograms, and swooshes. The Thief Bird is an informal grotesque font. Although informal and grotesque may seem to be two quite different ideas, we have to dig into the origin of this typeface in order to understand the matter. The concept behind The Thief Bird was inspired by the adaptation that the vintage sign painters made when they took the grotesque style characters they saw in newspapers and magazines and reproduced them using a brush, aiming to make the prices of the products displayed on wooden boards stand out, as opposed to highlighting large headlines (such as the idea behind fonts like Franklin Gothic). Waba Pronounced ‘Vah-bah’, is a font family that I designed. The name comes from a historical variation on the Estonian word ‘vaba’ – meaning ‘free’, or 'at liberty'. Back in 2017 I visited the Estonian Print & Paper Museum in Tartu to see its great collection of type (well worth a visit!). While I was there I saw some big woodcut blocks of Reklameschrift Herold - a super Art Nouveau/Jugendstil style display font. The Print & Paper Museum's collection covers both Latin and Cyrillic faces and as a foreigner in these parts I'm kind of fascinated by the exoticism of Cyrillic. How it is different but the same to the Latin letters I take for granted (as a humble Englander – no excuses). Not to mention, Jugendstil with its imitation of natural form, reverse-weights and looping-delicious curves (like you've left the window open all summer and the garden plants are climbing in). This mix of Jugendstil, Cyrillic letters and the beautiful historical border town of Tartu inspired me to start drawing Waba. Trimming the serifs from Herold, simplifying those angles and expanding the category of weights, then taking look at the magical logic of Berthold Block and doing a few things that just seemed right at the time – Waba is a bit of love letter to Estonia, the Baltics and the visual history of Eastern Europe. Waba Monogram Waba also contains a monogram face, which allows you to create any monogramming latin and cyrillic. Simply type out your 2-3-4 characters in Waba Monogram, making sure Contextual Alternates is turned on them voila! Monograms can be customised manually using the OpenType select-pop-up in Adobe. Also included are a few Discretionary Ligatures for Mc, De, Von etc. Monograms work best when Contextual Alternates is turned on.

The starting point for VLNL Kouseband was spotted by Donald DBXL Beekman on the Christian Reformed Church in the Dutch town of Naarden. The iron wire lettering contained a number of unusual characters and details, which eventually led to this five weight family. The Kouseband fonts mix elements of geometric sans serifs and upright unconnected scripts, with a hint of Dutch school writing. VLNL Kouseband is monolinear and has an very large cap height compared to the (lowercase) x-height, giving the capital letters an elongated condensed appearance. Kouseband is the Dutch word for ‘garter (belt)’ and also gave the name to a long tropical bean known as Yardlong bean. Kouseband beans are a common ingredient in Roti and other Surinamese dishes. As the Dutch Christian church is sometimes referred to as ‘Zwarte kousenkerk’ (Black stocking church), and stockings are held up by garter belts, we have come full circle and VLNL Kouseband has a name. VLNL Kouseband contains a set of oldstyle numbers matching the lowercase letters, and a couple of wider alternate capitals (HMNOQ) to enhance the liveliness of your designs.
