The idea for Cambalache was conceived back in 2008 and was to create a geometrical font based on tangential modules into structure. The serif would be arranged, looking to approach to the lettering shapes. The creative concept has a feel from the mid-30s of last century, reaching a taste of retro and vintage style. It is a handwriting-style font for body text that emphasizes gentleness and solidity by using less curvature and making use of a straight feel. Waterman is a display font, its form is based on the figure of a fluid, creating a texture of undulating forms, rhythmic and free to make reading a stream wave experience. This font provides a typical set of characters for the ancient Nabataean language, used in what is now Jordan and adjoining regions during the period of the Roman Empire, based on lapidary letter-forms of the first century of the present era. LP Horizont Caps is another new font creation from German designer Peter Langpeter (lp-design.de). LP has been running his own design studio since 1995, working as a typeface and logo designer, as a calligrapher, cartographer and illustrator. During this time LP created a large number of excellent new typeface designs. LP Horizont Caps is a very futuristic looking, sharp and elegant sans serif.

A ”modern“ Gothic – designed according to principles of modern form in three variations Faber Gotik is a reminiscence of Gutenberg’s first script from around 1450. The heavily broken forms allow further development in the direction of a modern, strongly geometric and less formal type. It should be possible to push the principle of design so far to the limit that a type is created which, from the very start, extinguishes reminders of a dark past. The characters are composed of squares which are lined up straight or in a more or less slanted manner. The resulting corners similar to serifs were removed so that a sans serif type in the true sense without up and down strokes was created. The principle of ”breaking“ was applied according to the historical model. Even the form of the characters is based on the model from the Middle Ages. Only the characters which cannot be created with the principle described were modeled on today's forms. Faber Gotik includes three variations: - Faber Gotik Text — most similar to the historical model - Faber Gotik Gothic — pushes the applied principle of form the furthest - Faber Gotik Capitals —; a Gothic upper case font, contrary to tradition. 555 years after Gutenberg, interest in black-letter typefaces is nearly extinct. They are especially looked down upon in German-speaking countries because they are still associated with ”Nazi“ scripts. But yet, the very forms of blackletter, Gothic, Schwabacher and especially cursive have enormous potential with regard to the development of new advanced font forms.

MAS AMOR POR FAVOR (1) (more love, please) Fluire means -to flow- in Italian and that’s what this font is all about. The story began when a friend of mine asked for a tattoo with the word -Fluir- (to flow in Spanish). She didn't want a tattoo full of swashes and swirls, like I'm used to doing, but something more fluent, soft and minimal. My very first attempts were more related to copperplate calligraphy but I wasn't even close: I discovered that I needed to forget a little bit about the classic contrast and speed of the engrosser's nib and started playing with a tiny flat metal nib. Letters started to flow, and I immediately thought of turning them into a font. Inspired by the tattoo I created and by other tattoos I saw, I started the journey of what would be a very fun process. The result is a very cute, almost monoline font with a wide range of uses. USES If not used for a tattoo (my first ‘target’), the font delivers amazing results in combination with Fluire Caps: These two need each other, they go together, they talk. I designed Fluire Caps Down and Fluire Caps Up so it’s easier to manage their colors. Also there’s Fluire Caps Down Lines, which has a decorative thin line to add yet another dimension. Hand lettered titling on the 1945 sheet music for “Don’t Forget To-Night, To-Morrow” is in a simple, condensed sans serif style with a slight hint of Art Deco influence. This is now available as Handmade Headline JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

Vintage packaging [circa 1940s] for a sewing machine attachment used for making lattice-type stitching had its information hand lettered in a casual Art Deco sans serif design. This became the basis of Home Economics JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Sweet Titling No. 11 is a 2009 addition to the Sweet Collection of engraved lettering styles from the 20th Century. This obscure, art deco design would have been used for engraved letterhead, business cards, etc., and likely first appeared in the 1920s or ’30s.

The hand lettered title and credits for the 1937 film “Easy Living” (starring Jean Arthur and Edward Arnold) featured playful, casual Art Deco sans serif lettering. This became the working model for Nice and Easy JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Found on the back of some sheet music to promote another song was the hand-lettered title "The Snake Charmer". While not everyone likes snakes, many designers do like the lettering of the Art Deco era, so Charmer JNL is designed from that lettering.

The Dec., 1936 - Jan., 1937 edition of Radio Mirror offered up a condensed, hand lettered sans serif type design that - although an Art Deco style- is also somewhat futuristic in design. This is now available as Condensed Moderne JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

The 1960 revised edition of Sam Welo’s “Studio Handbook – Letter and Design for Artists and Advertisers” showcased a beautiful, semi-condensed Art Deco alphabet called “Modern Gothic”. It has been digitally redrawn and is available as Restauranteur JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Abwyn is a sparkly Art Deco construction. The little diamonds in the vertical strokes add a lightness that is very pleasing to the eye in display sizes: Lower case numbers, Euro, ballot box in the section slot. It was just designed for fun & celebration.

A condensed type design with Art Deco influences was used for titles within the February, 1938 issue of Modern Screen Magazine. The digital version is named for the famous “Tinsel Town” street intersection. Hollywood and Vine JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The hand lettered title on the 1945 sheet music for the song "Louisiana Hayride" is an Art Deco design with a nod to the preceding Art Nouveau era. It is now available as Barn Dance JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

An ad in the May 3, 1928 issue of “The Film Daily” for the movie “Drums of Love” featured extra bold, sans serif hand lettering in an Art Deco style. This is now available as Drum Rhythm JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

The cover of a 1932 edition of “Sunset magazine” (a publication for homeowners living in the west and southwest area of the United States) featured a lovely Art Deco serif alphabet that is now available as Western Suburbs JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Trocadero JNL was inspired by an early 1950s photo showing the signage for the Trocadero Restaurant located on Liberty Avenue and 23rd Street in Miami Beach. Highly stylized and classically Art Deco in design, it is best used in short one- or two-word titles.

Theater District JNL revisits the classic lettering of the 1930s Art Deco movement with this bold headline type. While many variations of this letter form exist, each interpretation evokes the approach to modernism and streamline embraced by architects and fashion designers of the period.

“9 Garcons...Un Cœur” (“9 Boys...One Heart”) is a 1948 French musical starring Edith Piaf. The hand lettered credits for the film are done in a condensed Art Deco sans alphabet, now available digitally as Stage Show JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

I was commissioned by Publish magazine to digitize Trio in 1990. Originally designed in a Light weight only, Trio is now available in Medium and Bold weights as well. Uppercase only, but each weight includes two alphabets, one more "deco," the other more "modern."

Parenting JNL is a stylized Art Deco sans serif type design originally found on a vintage WPA (Works Progress Administration) poster designed by the Federal Art Project and touting the topic of "The Job of Being a Parent". Available in regular and oblique versions.

A Lufthansa Airlines baggage label from 1936 provided the inspiration for this genuinely German typeface, with strong Art Deco influences. Both versions include the complete Unicode Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, as well as localization for Lithuanian, Moldovan and Romanian.

Inspired by the hand lettering found on a 1930s travel poster promoting visits to India, this bold sans serif Art Deco type design feature incised lines and a stylized A,E,F and S. World Travel JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

One of my dreams as a type-designer was making a good looking chancery cursive. Full of life, like some of the best calligraphers around the world do on their artworks. With Julian Waters, John Stevens and Denis Brown (just to name a few of them) (1) chancery, or italic script, was transformed into a new, exciting and very fresh style of calligraphy mainly at the end of 20th Century. Dream Script may be that dream named above made true. I have been practicing chancery in the way I learnt from those calligraphers for many years now. Making a font out of my ink-sketches was a tough work, since they were closer of -being art- than of -being type-. However, this font rescues many aspects of handmade calligraphy: You have to look at it really close to notice it is actually a font, and that was one of my goals. The secret of a good looking chancery is on its subtle details: pen angle is constantly changing, even on the strokes which seem straight. Capitals and swashes have to be done a little faster than lowercase letters. The rhythm has to be even, in spite of its playful look. The fact that makes Dream look alive is that it has many alternates per glyph. This makes each word look unique like it happens in calligraphy: you will find alternates for the beginning/ending of a word/phrase, some for the middle of it, some interchangeable. Also, to accompany the script, you will find Dream Caps, which was inspired in the eternally beautiful trajan capitals. Place them like I did on the posters and you will have great results for sure. The font works great in small, middle and big sizes and can be a great selection for magazines, wedding invitations, perfumes, and posters. Close your eyes, and Dream with me... TECHNICAL Dream Script Pro is the most complete style, it contains all the alternates and ligatures (OT programmed, better if you use Adobe applications) If you plan to use the font for text, be sure to activate the less decorative capitals, which are placed in the “salt” group of alternates. Dream Script Standard has less glyphs than the Pro one, it contains just some ligatures for a better legibility.
