Swan Song is a digitization of gorgeous free form calligraphy by British artist Rachel Yallop. It first appeared in The Calligraphy Source Book edited by Miriam Stribley (Running Press, 1986). Rooted in day to day handwriting, Swan Song is a quick and irregular artistic jolt at first impression, and surprisingly richly-textured art at second glance. Whatever these letters are used to communicate, the communicator is content, confident, humorous, strong and experienced, and the reader will be glad to receive the personal contact of such a communicator. Amaro is the Italian word for bitter (amaro) herbal drinks like Ramazotti, Averna and a trillion lesser known ones. These liquors were the literal base for this elaborate set of four fonts. Each has different uppercase letters and some of the lowercase letters vary as well. Amaro-A, B, and C can be mixed freely. The Amaro-D has underlining swashes in two different lengths, the uppercase has the shorter underlines and the lowercase the longer ones. So many designers hate Comic Sans. They think people who don't know design are overusing this funny little friendly font, which is nearly every time out of place. Approach Mono is the fixed width version of Approach. A utilitarian low contrast font, a bit mechanical but plenty of character. This version shares its main features with the original one, but it has a more prominent and visible punctuation. The more obvious use of a mono would be in tables, programming code or “in progress texts”, but not just that. Clear Prairie Dawn is an original humanist sans serif family based on the designer's own printing. Designed for use as a text face, as a humanist sans it shares some of the characteristics you might notice in other such faces as Optima, Gill Sans or Stone Sans. The italic is a designed italic, rather than merely a slanted roman, and incorporates many of the ideas that the designer found too lively for the roman fonts. Rigatoni is a didone display family with exceptional readability. Based on a German mid-century lettering specimen by Nerdinger, designer Alejandro Paul expanded the face into an extensive family, with 5 weights, italics, and a 2 weights stencil version. Its tall letterforms and sturdy serifs give it a noble bearing when set in all caps; in the lower case its large x-height and spacious counters imbue it with a welcoming tone. A plethora of alternate and swash characters let you create distinctive settings for identities, labels, titles, and headlines. Shell Shock was inspired by stencil typefaces used on military tanks and ammunition boxes. It can be enhanced with a separate set of bombs and warning signs for the typographer in power. Shell Shock Cloak is the ultimate add-on for Shell Shock. This 3-layered 'Cloaking Device' enhances the existing Shell Shock. Put the 3 Cloak layers on top of Shell Shock and suddenly it's camouflaged and you will hardly be able to find it. Use only one extra Cloak layer to give Shell Shock that cool distorted look, like those damaged warsigns on military vehicles. Undulate was designed as an alternating-letter font in which two sets of characters alternate. The alternating is done automatically in applications that support the OpenType feature contextual alternatives (calt). Some individual characters look strange in isolation but they fit into a wave-like pattern in which shapes that bulge up alternate with shapes that bulge down. Undulate has monospaced and monoline letters. The letter spacing is very tight to accentuate the ripple pattern. The family includes an outline style that can be used in a layer above the regular style to add color. Undulate was not designed for any particular use but as a challenge to fit letters into a particular geometric shape. The unusual patterns that a result are eye-catching and may be useful for advertising or signage and in other places where one wants attention-grabbing lettering.
