Pocketknife is a simple grid-based titling font on it’s surface, but it has a surprisingly prolific set of features under the surface. The most notable of these features is an abundant set of ligatures that give Pocketknife it’s unique look. There are very few kerning pairs contained within Pocketwatch, and these ligatures fill in most gaps that could be created by letters with more empty space, such as L and T, and also give a more playful look to an otherwise sharp-edged typeface. Arabesque is a romantic, ornamental font, in which intertwining, flowing lines and generous loops enhance the beauty of the basic shapes. Dufour was named in honor of an art deco font called "Independent" designed in the 1930s by Collette and Dufour. "Dufour" is influenced by the original font, however, there are substantial differences: instead of small caps, a true lower case was created, the upper case character proportions and shapes have been greatly modified, and all missing characters have been created to make a truly modern font which nevertheless has all of the panache of the original. I have named the font “Makonde” after an tribal group in southeast Tanzania and northern Mozambique that is well known for their intricate and semi-realistic wood carvings.
