Sydonia Atramentiqua is a strange creation. The inspiration was the first releases of "Malleus Maleficarum" (actually the typography used there). I decided I wanted something strange, so Sydonia came into being. Like a blood of all witches who were being hunted down by Malleus Maleficarum's "fans" for their skills and beliefs. Why Sydonia? Sydonia von Borck was a witch from my area. It was probably the last woman executed for witchcraft. The genesis of the name. Sydonia was THE WITCH, and by the name I added "Atramentiqua". It is a combination of the words "Ink" (polish "ATRAMENT") + "Antiqua". The idea of ​​spilling a font is historical. The former Zecer composition was not perfectly sharp. As it was a "wet job", there were always light exits behind the lines. Who supported me? The GENEALOGIA project has been carried out for several years in cooperation with the Academy of Art in Szczecin and the National Museum in Szczecin. The project's supervisors are prof. Waldemar Wojciechowski and MA Patrycja Makarewicz, who runs the Visual Communication Studio. Some information: Sydonia was like that! This is not an everyday font. It is a stylized font, used to imitate old prints made by Zecer. The first version of Sydonia Atramentiqua was created in 2018 for the purposes of the exhibition at the National Museum in Szczecin. Khatt tries to mimic the concept behind the meaning of the Arabic word Khatt: a straight horizontal line. The word Khatt is also the word for calligraphy in the Arabic language. Even though Khatt is a cursive style font it offers clearly distinguished and visually unified letter shapes in every position of a word. Khatt supports all Arabetic scripts covered by Unicode 6.1, and the latest Arabic Supplement and Extended-A Unicode blocks, including support for Quranic texts. It comes with five weights, regular, medium, bold, light, and ultra-light. Each weight has normal and left-slanted “italic” styles. The script design of this font family follows the Arabetics Mutamathil Taqlidi style and utilizes varying x-heights. The Mutamathil Taqlidi type style uses one glyph per every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined by the Unicode Standards, and one additional final form glyph, for each freely-connecting letter in an Arabic text. Khatt includes the required Lam-Alif ligatures in addition to all vowel diacritic ligatures. Katts’s soft-vowel diacritic marks (harakat) are positioned with most of them appearing on similar lower or upper positions to emphasize they are not part of letters.

Salome is a revival, normalization and elaborate expansion of a 1972 film face called Cantini. The original film type, released by a tiny independent outfit called Letter Graphics, looked like it was hand drawn with little consideration for consistency in essential lettering flow measurements, like angles, stroke widths, and vertical metrics. All these issues have been resolved in this digital version, and the original character set, including the whole lot of alternates, was entirely redrawn and expanded to include even more alternates and many useful ligatures, as well as extended support for Latin-based languages. Combining elements of early 20th century art nouveau with common 1960s and 1970s signage and poster lettering flair, Salome uses curls and curves to wave its fantastic shapes in a most hypnotic dance. Salome simply cannot be unseen. Just like its namesake, the female seduction icon, it does not hesitate to put all of its natural beauty and energy on display in order to get what it wants. Salome comes in all popular font formats. The OpenType version, Salome Pro, combines the main font with the alternates one, and contains convenient features for push-button alternation and ligature substitution in supporting software programs.

A reminder of the days of flower power, Satron is quite a bit different, slightly hippy and slightly grungy. Although it is not in any way an attempt to emulate the fonts used in that era, it evokes the mood of the time. There's two different shapes making up each character, with a grungy black one in front of a hippy white one. The combined effect however is quite novel and modern. There's also a jumbled version with the letters rotated and whacked around, in case you want it funky-flavored. There's all the main characters plus lots of extra accented letters as well. The package contains both OTF and TTF versions - install either OTF or TTF, not both versions on the same machine.

Upon its redesign as Neuzeit S in the 1960s, other developments in sans serif letter design were taken into account. Neuzeit S looks less geometric, and more gothic, or industrial. Separating it from typefaces like Futura, it has a double-storey a, instead of a less legible, single-storey variant. Unlike more popular grotesque sans serifs like Helvetica, Neuzeit S and especially the redesigned Neuzeit Office contain more open, legible letterforms. Neuzeit Office preserves the characteristic number forms that have been associated with its design for years. After four decades, Neuzeit has been retooled once again, and it is more a child of its age than ever before. Akira Kobayashi, Linotype's Type Director, created the revised and updated Neuzeit Office in 2006. His greatest change was to retool the design to make its performance in text far more optimal. Additionally, he created companion oblique to help emphasize text. Roadie was inspired by a 1981 Hallmark card with lettering that was full of frolicking fun. Filled with a childish persona and a playful bounce, this Roadie has a lot to offer. As with some of my previous type designs, it is a typographic dance, wonderfully skipping across designs, surprising with each letter typed. With an extensive character set, and clean sharpie marker-like look, Roadie is a joy to typeset with, and it comes with a stylistic alternates feature that shuffles the Capitals and lowercase that share similar unicase forms that add to the quirky playfulness.

Tabac Big Glam probably stretches the Tabac super-family’s boundaries the furthest. While it’s based on the serif version, it achieves an especially surgical cleanliness and extremely sharp typesetting by completely letting the serifs go. Despite this, the text isn’t boring for a moment — the angled cut of the stems on b, d, h, k, l, the open loop on g or the rounded variant of the italic y, which can be called by turning on the stylistic set, reliably banishes any suspicions of the letters’ monotony.

Nazari is a typeface for titles with personality, character and multiple alternatives to design. By the time that the 13th edition of the Speedball Text Book appeared in 1938, silent movies were a thing of the past; nonetheless, intrepid author Ross F. George included this typeface, originally intended for title cards, in the volume. An ad in the April 19, 1919 edition of Motion Picture News for the (now lost) silent drama "Josselyn's Wife" featured some wonderfully stylized Art Nouveau hand lettering. Primarily a condensed character set with rounded serifs, there are a number of letters that take liberties in both width and character shape. Adding to this, [mostly vertical] parallel lines are cut through the characters to create a "striped' type of "double engraved' effect. Arx by Superfried is an elegant and intricate display typeface designed for use at large scale. There's a cemetery in Castine, Maine, a lovely coastal town perhaps best known for Maine Maritime Academy and a surviving crop of stately old American elms, with headstones dating back into the 18th century -- the standard old headstone shape, often topped by winged skulls. Thanks to a local historical society volunteer, I got my hands on a couple rubbings; these show a particular style of stonecarving that proved captivating to the point of typeface design. Castine has a full character set in both roman and italic styles.

Kantor's modular stroke and humanist axis defines it as an old-style 15th century Venetian serif typeface. At the same time, the lowercase Kantor alphabet is relatively compressed and has the vertical stems of a textura blackletter. However, Kantor has distinct, penformed shapes and has also kept all the organic irregularities of traditional handwriting (or punch-cutting, as it were). Kantor is not happy, not sad - but calm and dignified. Perfect for buddhist poems, fantasy video games and antique scrolls to give that "long time ago"-feeling.

Godina was born from the interest in learning and deepening in the basic forms and how they are combined to compose a typographic system. The name, a tribute to the town of La Almunia de Doña Godina, the town for which the author of the typography connects. La Almunia is a crossroads in the typography designer's travels, a link between his family and friends. It combines the scent of a straight and modular typeface with sinuous and curved shapes, which make it a fun and playful typeface.

Inspired by food labels, signs and coats of arms, PR-Scrolls is a collection of images which can be used for framing text in contexts where antiquity, craftsmanship, or traditional quality are conveyed. There are several sets of glyphs which work together to make a variety of shapes, or banners of custom length. Most of the glyphs are presented in a range of three or more widths. Scrolls 3 has a greater unity of detail, and a greater variety of form than our earlier designs.

Sworded is a font family of 8 fonts that was inspired by such diverse things as architecture, tombstones, video games, watching old movies or reading comic books. The art of creating beautiful letters has slowly declined with the rise of the digital age and its solid-colour, 2D fonts. And most of the time, the care given to typography in cultural products just isn't what it used to be anymore. This was the inspiration for Sworded, a family of 4 layerable fonts that can bring a feeling of depth to its letters, and offers endless possible combinations. Sworded Regular is the basic shape of all the characters. Sworded Deep gives an impression of depth to characters or acts on its own as an illusion. Sworded Bright can be used as the bright side of a bevel. Sworded Dark can be used to flesh out the dark side of a bevel. Sworded Shadowed is a contour font with a shadow effect. "I digitized and to revitalize NurnbergSchwabacher by the extinct Haas'sche Schriftgiesserei, a German/Swiss foundry established in 1790 and based in Basel/Münchenstein. Many of its shares were acquired by D. Stempel in 1927. On the Luc Devroye site this foundry is listed on the Extinct Foundries of the 18th century page. This design is very similar to another Intellecta best seller: Hostetler Fette Ultfraktur Ornamental, both drawn from the classical type specimen book from Hostetler. The ornamental frame that completes the font is a fantastic baroque ornament that I found in another old book, unfortunately lost now. Luc Devroye, whose book is the source for all of my fonts, writes this about Rudolf Hostettler: He was a Swiss type designer, author of “The Printer’s Terms” designed by Jan Tschichold, of "Technical Terms of the Printing Industry" (5th edition was printed in 1995), and of "Type: eine Auswahl guter Drucktypen; 80 Alphabete klassischer und moderner Schriften" (Teufen, Ausser-Rhoden: Niggli, 1958). He also wrote "Type: A Selection of Types" (1949, fgm books, R. Hostettler, E. Kopley, H. Strehler Publ., St. Gallen and London) in which he highlights type made by European houses such as Haas, Enschedé, Deberny and Nebiolo. Jost Hochuli wrote his biography.

Mono-Spec is a monospaced family of sans-serif type. At least in default settings, all characters across the typeface share a common width. That fixed setting is condensed, and the aesthetic style of Mono-Spec’s letterforms is very industrial. A sister family, called Mono-Spec Stencil, is also available. Its design strays away from the mechanical nature of Mono-Spec, and it channels the spirit of resistance and street culture. Mono-Spec ships in two different formats. Depending on your preference, you can install the typeface as a single Variable Font or use the family’s five static OpenType font files instead. Those weights run from Light through Bold. While the static-format fonts offer a good intermediary-step selection, users who install the Variable Font have vastly greater control over their text’s stroke width. The Mono-Spec Variable Font’s weight axis allows users to differentiate between almost 1,000 possible font weights. That enables you to fine-tune your text’s exact appearance on-screen or in print. Whatever format you choose, the Mono-Spec fonts are equipped with several OpenType features. The most striking of these can be activated via a Stylistic Set. That will replace several letters – like “B”, “E”, “F”, “H”, and “I” with double-width alternates. Those alternates take up as much space as two characters placed next to each other otherwise word. The effect of Mono-Spec’s double-width alternates is striking, and their use strikes a strong chord in any display typography applying them.

Designed by Francesco Canovaro with help from Andrea Tartarelli and Maria Chiara Fantini, Kitsch is a typeface happily living at the crossroads between classical latin and medieval gothic letterforms. But, rather than referencing historical models like the italian Rotunda or the french Bastarda scripts, Kitsch tries to renew both its inspirations, finding a contemporary vibe in the dynamic texture of the calligraphic broad-nib pen applied to the proportions of the classical roman skeleton. The resulting high contrast and spiky details make Kitsch excel in display uses, while a fine-tuned text version manages to keep at small sizes the dynamic expressivity of the design without sacrificing legibility. Both variants are designed in a wide range of weights (from the almost monolinear thin to the dense black), and are fully equipped with a extended character sets covering over two hundred languages that use latin, cyrillic and greek alphabets. Special care has been put in designing Kitsch italic letterforms, with the broad-nib movements referencing classical italian letterforms to add even more shades to your typographic palette. The resulting alternate letter shapes have also been included in the roman weights as Stylistic Alternates - part to the wide range of Open Type features (Standard and Discretionary Ligatures, Positional Numerals, Small Caps and Case Sensitive Forms) provided with all the 32 weights of Kitsch. The revival of this 1932 classic design by W. Schwerdtner for the Stempel Foundry in Germany brings back the fashion and culture of those bygone days. Wedge-shaped vertical strokes are thicker at the top than at the bottom while serifs are somewhat elongated, thin, and pointy. Here is an excellent choice for large display settings where capturing the spirit of the 1920s and 30s is important. Metropolis SG is also available in the OpenType Std format. Some new characters have been added to this OpenType version. Advanced features currently work in Adobe Creative Suite InDesign, Creative Suite Illustrator, and Quark XPress 7. Check for OpenType advanced feature support in other applications as it gradually becomes available with upgrades.

Tangential is a distinctive modern sans in 3 weights which was born out of a simple idea: Beginning the project with a perfect circle to form the letter ‘o’, then squaring off one corner, ending up with a letterform I hadn't seen before for that character; this for me was enough motivation to attempt a full alphabet incorporating the angled styling wherever possible. The Tangential style I envisaged for the family is complemented by the prominent use of negative space throughout, most apparent on the drop shaped ‘o’ which is a key feature of the typeface and a letterform I'm particularly pleased with. The core Tangential design is also accompanied by two further variations, Rounded & SemiSerif.

Ciao! This is Maestri — a connected script family of eight weights, from thin to heavy. Maestri is initially a sans serif made into a script, hence the design that's strict, clean and sharp. The formal approach gives it a touch of cool elegance — yet Maestri is full of expression and character. This is evident in the wide array of Open Type features which will open up innumerable solutions for unique typography with a hand-written feel.  For lowercase letters, available are Ending Alternates, Standard Ligatures and Contextual Alternates. Uppercase can be used to write in caps and there are also Swash alternates that have script-like character forms for every uppercase letter.

ITC Luna is the work of Japanese designer Akira Kobayashi. He turned to the designs of the 1930s for his inspiration for both ITC Luna and ITC Silvermoon. Luna is designed to fill the gap between a pure Art Deco display face and an ordinary text face," says Kobayashi. "It has an Art Deco style but is still fairly easy to read. It can be used in short passages of text. As for individual characters, I especially liked the distinctive O, shaded only on one side. Lowercase a and g are also unusual, but they are somehow legible enough in text matter." And for a finishing touch on his Luna, Kobayashi added the charming moon face as an extra character.
