In the 1930s the WPA (Works Progress Administration) was involved with getting a number of Americans back to work during the Great Depression. One faction of the WPA's efforts was the Federal Art Project. Thin, condensed hand lettering on a poster for an Art Exhibition at the New Bedford Free Public Library is the inspiration for Art Exhibit JNL.

ITC Deelirious is the first typeface of Dee Densmore-D'Amico and its name comes from the astounding number of D's packed into her name. The design came from her own handwriting. The Book of Kells is a handwritten Irish text which dates back to the 8th century. Kris Holmes and Janice Prescott digitalized some letters from this book and some from a Grotesk font in the style of Frutiger. A computer filled in the blanks and the designers then gave the font its finishing touches by hand.

A strong, heavy font that really packs a punch. Muscleman is there when your design needs a little extra lift. I like fonts that look like scribbled notes… so I made one! Delivery note was made with a sharpie pen on paper. I didn’t ‘clean’ the glyphs too much, as I wanted it to look like a genuine note script. It comes with double letter ligatures for the lower case glyphs and a fun doodle pack!

Inspired by the Froben capitals believed to have been cut by Peter Schoeffer the Younger, son of Gutenberg’s apprentice, this design is neither strictly a Venetian nor an Aldine. The archaic approach and lack of the Aldine model lead us to place the face in the Venetian group. The design owes more to Goudy than to Schoeffer.
