My personal handwriting has changed a number of times over the years. Just Another Hand is a narrow brush drawn handwriting font, inspired very loosely by the handwriting of my high school days. There's a little artistic license taken with Just Another Hand in the sense that while I never really wrote with a brush in high school, I wanted a cleaner stroke for this interpretation. A little personality, a little restraint... a style that works for all sorts of projects across the board. The Just Another Hand Pro family contains 659 characters per font. In 1978 I went to work at Mergenthaler as a letter drawer. Being an inquisitive sort I decided that I should take a stab at this type design 'stuff'. I drew 25 or 30 glyphs before the work found its way to a high shelf in a dark corner of my apartment. Just 23 years later I found the drawings on a different shelf, in a different home, in a different city and decided to finish what I had started. I'm still trying to deal with my predisposition toward procrastination but I've finished the font. The name of the font is the last name of somebody I played softball with before I moved to Beantown. Ronnie Geis was one of the courageous firefighters we lost on September 11th when the WTC collapsed.

Now here's a font that is named Like Butterflies, but has got nothing to do with butterflies! What? Why? Well, I recently heard the song "Even flow" by Pearl Jam and took a trip down memory lane - back to my early twenties. I remember how the lyrics affected me, and had an impact on how my life changed the years to follow. Maybe the style of the font does not reflect the inner meaning of the song, but it does reflect a look back in time for me - and the change that took place. Phoenica Std Mono expands the already large family of my very successful Phoenica. The motivation to develop a new mono-Phoenica family was that I was not satisfied with monospaced fonts in programming code, or simply in e-mail correspondence. The Mono Phoenica solves the problem of a typical monospaced font, a rigid, fixed width. The design gradations from Condensed monospaced to monospaced from 390em to 600em-square incurred a total of 21 fonts. Packages contain the fonts in CFF-OpenType and TrueType format, so you can use these beautiful fonts on all operating systems.

When I was painting this font, I suddenly had the movie Cool Runnings (1993, directed by Jon Turteltaub) in my head. I had to name the font, so I came up with Smooth Brushings. Of course, this font has nothing to do with the movie. Smooth Brushings is an all caps brush font, which was made with a stiff brush and some China Ink. Upper and lower case glyphs can be mixed. It is a very legible and clear font, ideally suited for posters, product packaging and book covers.

My family and I recently bought a fixer-upper farm from the 1930 and I have been renovating and building for the last three+ months. I have a lot on my mind (as you can imagine), so I write little notes to keep track of what I need to do. Of course, since I’m often in the middle of something that needs to be done NOW, these notes are kind of messy.
