The 1913 sheet music for "There's A Girl in the Heart of Maryland (with a Heart That Belongs to Me)" may have had no shortage of words in the title - fifteen to be exact, but it also offered some nice hand lettering in the Art Nouveau style. Maryland JNL is a condensed typeface with an unusual twist. The "S" and "G" both have spurs on them, which is reminiscent of the preceding Victorian period and the popular spurred Tuscan alphabets of the time.

A typographic treasure, originated at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, had been brought back to life. With its charming touch it makes a wonderful font for poems, bookcovers, reprints and other historically relevant projects. To get access to all ligatures, it is recommended to activate both Standard and Discretionary Ligatures; the round s you find on the # key, and typing the combination N-o-period and activating the OT feature Ordinals gets you the numero sign.

Hieroglyphs were a pictorial alphabet used in Ancient Egypt from 3100 BC to approximately 300 AD. Originally an experimental outline font made in the early days of Jeff Levine's typographic work, it's been revised and properly spaced for the design professional. The font is based on Ray Larabie's 1990's freeware release Foo - and a hand-traced, weathered-look was applied to the letter shapes. There's no kerning and a limited character set - but Terror JNL is still perfect for any headline that depicts "things that go bump in the night"...

Steve Jackaman. In the early 1980's, Steve worked at Typographic House in Boston, Massachusetts. At the time, 'Typo' House, as it was affectionately known, was the largest type house in New England. This font was designed and produced during his tenure. The design was so popular that it became available commercially through VGC, and was known as TH Alphabet Soup. Completely redrawn and remastered, Alphabet Soup Pro contains all the high-end features expected in a quality OpenType Pro font.

Dean Martin starred in four movies as Matt Helm, the titular character in a series of spy novels by Donald Hamilton. Martin’s version of the government counter-agent followed his TV persona – a fun-loving ladies man who (in this case) just happened to be a spy. The movie poster for 1966’s “The Silencers” has its title hand lettered in an extra bold sans serif stencil style. This is now available as Spy Stencil JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

The Luxx font was born in 2010 and in the 2013 has been redesigned. Luxx is based on a style of lettering often seen on Italian art deco posters and advertising of the 1930s. This font is very modern, and is inspired by the “velocitá-speed” of this artistic period. TheLuxx is perfect for when you want to use eye-catching big texts for anything from posters and retro-advertisements, and art, but it´s especially striking for printed projects.

I've had mixed feelings about Kabel; It is a brilliant headline font with a lot of character, but it's the characters I have problems with. The versions of all big foundries have the same flaws (in my opinion), especially lowecase a and s. So I finally went ahead and made an all new version. It is not Kabel, but very much like it. It has unique x-height, weight and width, and many individual characters are also different from the original.

Open, outline or inline faces became very popular in the 1940's. By removing the usual weight, a clear-cut letterform is achieved. In Caslon Open Face, the right-hand strokes are accentuated, providing a slightly three-dimensional effect. The ascenders of Caslon Open Face are large and the overall design of this version does not relate to Caslon 3 Roman. This Caslon Open Face font is good for personal stationery, or sentences where a decorative but distinguished result is sought.

In the 70's I went out with a girl whose father was a card-carrying member of 3 of the biggest unions in the printing arts. He gave me 2 things, a pre-war Linotype specimen book and an ancient 'how to' lettering book that contained 30 or 40 script specimens from lettering artists of the time. Tiamaria is the developed glyphs of one of these specimens. Tiamaria is the name of one of the islands in the Galapagos chain.

Popular music of the early 1900s included a genre called two step; round dances utilizing a sliding step with a tempo in either march or polka time. 1911's "Daughters of the American Revolution" was one such march/two step. The cover of the sheet music had the title hand lettered in a slightly rounded sans serif type design in the Art Nouveau style popular during that era. It is now available as Two Step Nouveau JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

Faithfully reproduced from my father’s design drawings made at The Municipal School of Arts and Crafts, Wolverhampton in 1939. Strong nostalgic influences of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. What caught my eye was the consistency with which each particular character was formed: every ‘R’ like every other, every ‘S’ the same. Tight letter spacing and loose word spacing characterised his titling but he didn’t trust himself to print without first ruling guidelines, a hint of which remain in this font.

What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? Nothing really. Love and Peace is an Art Nouveau style typeface inspired by Eckmann-Schrift by Otto Eckmann in 1900. Love and Peace is filled with ethereal elegance and it's great for posters, magazines and psychedelic LP covers. Love and Peace is equipped with few Contextual Alternates and Standard Ligatures to prevent characters from colliding. These four typefaces, Berlinette NB, Lyonette NB, Marseillette NB and Parisette NB, were designed from the same basic shape, a fanciful geometric form that avoids strict horizontals and uses more offbeat triangular shapes. Marseillette is the nasty one, with sharp hook terminations that require careful use. Don�t slip and accidentally stick one in your hand � it will hurt pretty bad and make you blubber like a baby. It�s good for surreal warning signs on dark, forbidding docks where gooey monsters live.

I came across a photo of Al Capone and some of his henchmen when searching the internet for something completely unrelated. We don’t have a history of notorious gangsters in Holland, so I was intrigued by Capone all of my life. Packing Heat is 1930’s slang for ‘carrying a gun’, which I thought befitted this handmade font with an early 20th century look. Packing Heat comes with multilingual support and a set of alternates for the lower case glyphs.

The lettering on the cover of the sheet music for 1919's "The World is Waiting for the Sunrise" was set in a decorative sans serif with an engraved line adorning each character. Reminiscent of the headlines of legal documents, way bills, stock certificates and the like, the digital version of the design was given the name Legal Eagle JNL and is available in both regular and oblique versions. A companion font without the engraved lines is also available as Junior Clerk JNL.

Bay Tavern is the first weathered version of our Tavern font that's based on Algerian. With three weights, open faced and outline versions to choose from you're sure to find the right style for your new project, restaurant menu, logo, t-shirt design or Pirate costume party. The Bitstream version of Trump Mediaeval of Linotype, 1954-60, by Georg Trump, a prolific German type designer. It seems to be his best typeface. It has a vigorous and assumed oldstyle roman and italic that is the sloped roman, except for the letters a, e, f. With its crisp angularity and wedge-shapes serifs, Trump Mediaeval appears carved in stone. It is a strong text typeface that is highly legible and especially useful for low-resolution output. It is useful in display work too. Cyrillic version developed for ParaType by Vladimir Yefimov and Isabella Chaeva and released in 2010. Cyrillic italics maintain the main feature of Trump Mediaeval to be the sloped roman, except for the letters г, д, и, й, n, т. There are old style figures, additional ligatures and fractions available at all styles and small caps at the Roman 55. Black style was added in 2011 by Vladimir Yefimov.

Movie Script is the script that was used in German movie-brochures. Those were small four page leaflets with a lot of sepia-colored pictures about the movie one was about to see. Today those things are collectors items. The script was also used on those hand-painted posters above the cinema entrance. I cleaned up the old script and made it just a little bit more readable, but overall I left it as it was. Of course I added the necessary glyphs for today's world, like Euro and so on. When I was a kid, my grandfather gave me 1 German Mark and I could go to the movies matinee, that was around 10:30 in the morning, the entrance cost something like 60 Pfennig and the rest was for peanuts and a drink. Still today I love my grandfather for that, movies introduced the world to me (no TV then). Your grandfather-loving designer Gert Wiescher
