An original design by Richard Isbell for ATF; in exaggerating the tapered stroke introduced eleven years earlier in Hermann Zapf’s Optima, Isbell created the first flareserif to achieve popularity in the United States.

Varietta is the result of my fascination with photographing the type designs of some marquees in Spanish markets. In them you can see many letter designs with reversed contrast and in different widths, probably based on the possibilities of photocomposition. At the same time I was working on the expansion of the Hastile typeface designed by Alessandro Butti for the Nebiolo foundry in Italy in the late 1930s, of which I had not seen any digitization. As I am not a fan of perfect revivals, I thought it could be interesting to connect Spain and Italy in a single typeface. The first step was to expand Butti's design to 27 styles, ranging from thin condensed to black expanded. To look for the Spanish connection and its characteristic inverse contrast I took advantage of the current technology that allows variable typefaces with many axes. From this, three scenarios of horizontal contrast were incorporated (top, bottom and mixed) which allows infinite possibilities of use. The final result is a collection of 108 static typefaces or a single variable file.

This typeface was inspired by the rough surroundings of a modern city and reflects the contradicting nature of an emerging global youth culture. Ever since its first release—back in late 1999— it is constantly on our ‘most wanted’ list and has been part of numerous product campaigns. Music, mobile telephony, food and beverages, politics, you name it. Coca-Cola used it, José Cuervo used it for about 3 years. The new ‘Pro’ version goes one step ahead. You may now capture the essence of the younger generation in every major European language. Bernhardt Standard, which was designed in 2003 by Julius de Goede, is a flowing Bastarde script. Bastarde is one of the sub-categories of Blackletter typefaces. The term Blackletter refers to typefaces that have evolved out of Northern Europe’s medieval manuscript tradition. Often called gothic, or Old English, these letters are identifiable by the traces of the wide-nibbed pen stroke within their forms. Of all of the various sorts of Blackletter styles, Bastarde scripts are the most flowing, or Italic. The first Bastarde typefaces, cut in the late 1400s, were based on French handwriting styles, especially those styles popular in Burgundy. The flowing nature of Bernhardt Standard makes it similar to some other sorts of Blackletter typefaces as well. Bernhardt Standard, because of its handwritten roots, is also similar to Kurrent, a style of handwriting that was popular in Germany prior the 20th Century. Bernhardt Standard is a very calligraphic face, suitable for formal applications. This typeface would be an excellent choice for certificates or awards. The old style figures in the font allow for nice short settings of text as well.

Grammatik was made in the end of 2004. This typeface is clear and simple hybrid between sans and serif styles, which was so popular late 90s. Use Grammatik as a display face for best results.

Blout is the typeface for those who want to shout their message, but to do so with subtlety. It brings together elements of sans serif and late blackletter design, and is ideal for poster work.

Medieval Times is a digital revival of an illuminated alphabet dating back to a text from the medieval period. This series of faces was designed initially by Morris Fuller Benton, circa 1900. The design is a refinement of Taylor Gothic from 1897. It features a sans serif thick and thin design with angular stems. Pre-dating art deco, this design feels quaint, yet it still has a touch of modernism. Frederic Goudy designed a bold version of Globe Gothic in 1905 for ATF. The Bold and Bold Italic digital versions have been added to the LTC library in early 2007.

Etruscania font is base on Anchient Etruscan Alphabet. The Etruscan alphabet is an Ancient Italian alphabet used by the Etruscans, an ancient civilization of the central and northern lands, to write their language, from around 700 BC to around 100 AD. The Etruscan alphabet took inspiration from the Phoenician alphabet. The earliest known Etruscan abecedarium inscribed on an ivory wax tablet frame, measuring 8.8x5 cm, was found at Marsiliana near Grosseto, Tuscany in Italy. It dates from around 700 BC.

Diablo Light was originally called Fabric and was issued by the Farmer, Little & Co. foundry in New York. We liked everything about this font except for the lowercase 'g'. So we changed the offending letter, but for purity kept the orginal as an alternate. We created a bold version of Diablo Light, with minor changes to accomodate the bolder stroke weight. Although the original design is over a century old, the style seems to have an up-to-date look.

Greenwood is a monospaced, cursive typewriter script, based on a typewritten letter from a Mr J. G. Greenwood Esq. to a branch of the National Westminster bank in Oxfordshire, Great Britain, dated 6th June 1904. This uncommon style of typeface is suitable for many tasks as it not only has the functionality of a monospaced font but it has a quirky distinctiveness that lends itself especially well to any setting that requires a decorative font that reads surprisingly well in extended text.

First developped for a logo that was rejected we made a font of it! It is an old-style techno but still modern new font (what a mix!). It is simply playful and fashionable.

St Transmission was one of the first ambitious projects for Stereotypes. Building a complete family with a lot of weights along with the italics. Transmission supports extended Latin character set, plus Cyrillic and Greek.

Anniversary Seals is composed of a seal design reminiscent of the embossed foil seals used in commemorating company anniversaries. The font contains 100 consecutive characters from the first anniversary through the one-hundredth anniversary.

Nevins Hand is our first release of a new collection of fonts based on the designs of Peter Nevins, a San Francisco poster artist who does hand-lettered fonts in the Art Nouveau tradition.

ArgonType is the first commercial font produced by Vic Fieger. It features thick vertical strokes, soft curves, and incomplete loops. It was designed to be used as an alternative for serif fonts where appropriate.

A Barnhart Bros. & Spindler type from the late victorian period. We have been faithful to the spirit of the original buy "calmed down" a few of the lowercase letters to make the lines read more smoothly.

Haiku is a very modern old-style typeface. Inspired by late Renaissance-era typography, and carefully optimised for both display and text, digital and print. Featuring ligatures, old-style numerals, wide language support, and true italics.

Radical Brush is a rather radical font: I made it with a really wild brush and Chinese Ink. I’d probably use it for revolutionary posters, packaging design for extreme products or for R-rated movie posters.

Scurlock is an original Dave Nalle design. It is a rough-hewn, hand-drawn font with some interesting character. It's excellent for doing unique, eye-catching titles and has a bit of a wicked, fantastical look.

A late-19th Century song book entitled "Gems of Scotland - A Beautiful Collection of Scottish Songs" had the words "Gems of Scotland" hand lettered in an ornate, condensed type style now reproduced digitally as Gemstone JNL.

Small headline font family inspired by discreet unobtrusive technical labels on various electronic devices. It is recognizable for its geometrical character complemented with surprising detail. Suitable for designing printed matters, posters, magazines and visual data output.

Dave West released the Behemoth Semi-Condensed font in 1960. With nineteenth-century wood-cut influence PL Behemoth Semi-Condensed is an example of the revival of slab serif styles, popular in the sixties and seventies.

Hamptons BF is a beautiful, elegant sans serif with dramatic individuality. A font that steps out in Art Deco style. As a design movement Art Deco came into prominence during the 1920s and 30s when forms were typically sleek, symmetrical, geometric or highly stylized. Today the influence of this enduring style can be clearly seen in architecture, industrial design, fashion, art, graphic design, and yes, even type design. Art Deco style exemplifies luxury, glamour and modernity. I believe Hamptons BF captures something of that retro look in a nod to the past without ever looking dated, all the while retaining a contemporary flair. Named after the well-known New York resorts synonymous with style and elegance, this gothic or sans serif type is based upon University Roman, an early 1970s serif design which in turn was influenced by yet another serif design called Forum Flair (late 1960s); and that in turn owes its pedigree to the late 1930s’ Stunt Roman, which is the original source of inspiration for all of these. Quite a family tree! There’s dynamic interplay between certain wide, full-round letters such as C, D, G, O, P, Q, R, S and narrow ones like A, E, F, H, K, L, M, N, U, etc. This contrast repeats throughout certain lower case letters and serves to create a unique look of distinction. Light and Regular weights communicate a romantic, feminine appeal while the Bold offers a complementary emphasis. The font is somewhat versatile as in addition to its primary purpose for display, Hamptons BF also succeeds in settings containing short blocks of large text. It’s right at home in a variety of typographic environments: branding, packaging, signage logos, magazine headlines, invitations, menus, trendy cafes and more.
