The unusual mix of Art Deco lettering with a smattering of Art Nouveau characters found within Dance Partner JNL comes from a movie poster for the 1935 RKO picture "Roberta" starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. A 14-weight sans family based on the original British ‘M.O.T.’ (Ministry of Transport) alphabet. A capitals-only, single-weight design was drawn up around 1933 for use on Britain’s road network, and remained in use until Jock Kinnear and Margaret Calvert’s ‘Transport Alphabet’ was introduced for Britain's first motorway in 1958. The identity of the original designer is not preserved; however, Antony Froshaug in a 1963 ‘Design’ magazine article mentions Edward Johnston as an advisor. Speculation that it was based on Johnston’s London Transport alphabet is discussed in archived government documents from 1957: “So far as I am aware, the Ministry alphabet was not based on Johnston’s design; indeed, it has been suggested that Gill got his idea from Johnston. Our alphabet was based on advice from Hubert Llewellyn-Smith (then chairman of the British Institute of Industrial Art) and Mr. J. G. West, a senior architect of H. M. Office of Works.” A 1955-57 revision of the alphabet which polished the somewhat mechanical aspects of the original may be the work of stone carver and typographer David Kindersley. For the digitisation, Rian Hughes added an entirely new lower case, italics and a range of weights. The lower case mimics the forms of the capitals wherever possible, taking cues form Gill and Johnston for letters such as the a and g, with single-tier versions in the italic. A uniquely British font that is now available in a versatile family for modern use.

Salome is a revival, normalization and elaborate expansion of a 1972 film face called Cantini. The original film type, released by a tiny independent outfit called Letter Graphics, looked like it was hand drawn with little consideration for consistency in essential lettering flow measurements, like angles, stroke widths, and vertical metrics. All these issues have been resolved in this digital version, and the original character set, including the whole lot of alternates, was entirely redrawn and expanded to include even more alternates and many useful ligatures, as well as extended support for Latin-based languages. Combining elements of early 20th century art nouveau with common 1960s and 1970s signage and poster lettering flair, Salome uses curls and curves to wave its fantastic shapes in a most hypnotic dance. Salome simply cannot be unseen. Just like its namesake, the female seduction icon, it does not hesitate to put all of its natural beauty and energy on display in order to get what it wants. Salome comes in all popular font formats. The hand lettered credits from the 1950 Humphrey Bogart film “In a Lonely Place” inspired the digital version called Screenwriter JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. The font was named after the profession of the main character (Dixon Steele) who was a Hollywood screenwriter.

A brass hand-punched shipping stencil from the 1950s inspired Simple Stencil JNL. The rounded ends of the characters are reminiscent of technical lettering templates, especially since there are a combination of solid letters and those with stencil "breaks" as many of those pen and ink templates possessed.

Neuarc Font Family This is the 20th font family of CozyFonts Foundry, established 10 years ago in 2012 with the release of Aladdin Bold. Neuarc is based loosely on arcs and curves, hence it’s naming. As shown in one of the font posters that serves to showcase this font, a collage of rough sketches is displayed as the poster’s background. These hand drawn pencil drawings were worked and reworked and The final drawings were scanned and built in Adobe Illustrator and transferred to glyph windows, glyph by glyph, in Fontlab 8. Based on Herbert Thannhaeuser's 1954 Kurier design, Puma is the digital version of what is possibly the friendliest yet least used heavy brush design. Aside from its utilitarian functionality as a poster and sign font, Puma includes some original and artistic shapes, such as the very gorgeous single-stroke take on the letter P, the humorous knot-and-dash Q, the happy fish-eye e, the casual single-looped f, and the welcoming g. Perfect for shop signs, posters, menu heads, children book covers, fun flyers, and loud but friendly messages altogether. The complete character set is complemented with a second font containing various letter alternates and ligatures.

Nantua Flava XL is a display font by heart. It's preferably seen on posters or flyers. It's inspired by the Op Art style of lettering in the USA from the 1960s and 70s. Spillsbury was inspired by some examples of 1920s signwriting (principally seen on the side of some vintage vans-good thing they were in a photograph and not on the move!). Spillsbury draws inspiration from these sources to provide a unique combination of legibility and flair, which echoes the charm of advertising and publicity material from the halcyon days of the 1920s. A basic range of four display faces os offered - Regular, Plain (not all that plain really!), Shaded and Shadowed. In a new departure for Greater Albion, three pairs of 'Duo' faces are also offered. These are designed to be used in pairs-and only sold on that basis for little more than the cost of a single face-to provide for two-coloured typographic design, enabling the recreation of those evokative two coloured blocked lettering styles that were used to such good effect in the past. Callista (from the Greek for "most beautiful") is a fat cursive typeface, inspired by the works of Francois Boltana in the early 1970s and those of Milka Peykova in late 1970s. With its Full Latin and Cyrillic support, Callista is a perfect choice for short headlines and logotype design.

Fine-built, straight but not official, with soft corners is suitable for short texts, placards and advertising. It was inspired by 1970s when people were mad about robots, space and so on. I decided to create a font as if it was a progressive font of the 1970s.

Here is a wood type from Tubbs & Co., about 1900. Its lack of decoration reflects the changes that were rapidly occurring in the design of printed pieces at the beginning of the 1900s. There were several similar types in metal in the first decade of the 20th century.
