Lydia (Lydian: ‎𐤮𐤱𐤠𐤭𐤣𐤠, Śfarda; Aramaic: Lydia; Greek: Λυδία, Lȳdíā; Turkish: Lidya) was an Iron Age kingdom of western Asia Minor located generally east of ancient Ionia in the modern western Turkish provinces of Uşak, Manisa and inland Izmir. The ethnic group inhabiting this kingdom are known as the Lydians, and their language, known as Lydian, was a member of the Anatolian branch of the Indo-European language family. The capital of Lydia was Sardis. The Kingdom of Lydia existed from about 1200 BC to 546 BC. At its greatest extent, during the 7th century BC, it covered all of western Anatolia. In 546 BC, it became a province of the Achaemenid Persian Empire, known as the satrapy of Lydia or Sparda in Old Persian. In 133 BC, it became part of the Roman province of Asia. Lydian coins, made of silver, are among the oldest coins in existence, dated to around the 7th century BC.

Basic Commercial is a family of fonts based on historical designs from the hot metal type era. First appearing around 1900, these designs were created by type designers whose names have not been recorded, but whose skills cannot be overlooked. These typefaces were popular among groups and movements as diverse as the Bauhaus, Dadaism, and the masters of Swiss/International-Style typography. They influenced a variety of later grotesque fonts, such as Helvetica and Univers. Basic Commercial was distributed for many years in the United States under the name Standard Series. The typeface worked its way into many aspects of daily life and culture; for instance, it became the face chosen for use in the New York City subway system’s signage. The Basic Commercial family members have a clear and objective design. Their forms exhibit almost nothing unusual, but remain both lively and legible nonetheless. Perhaps for this reason, Basic Commercial’s design has been popular with graphic designers for decades.

A Historical Revival for Modern Typesetting Flair Pennyroyal began as a Barnhart Brothers & Spindler typeface called Plymouth Bold, first cut in 1900. What began as a straightforward rustic typestyle has been revived to include a more extensive character set. But this font wasn’t just revived, it has come alive with character and personality. A classical 20-th century's (1900s to 1980s) typewriter font for both text and large display usage, titles, signage... A new thicker version of Selectric (2016), as if typed using not a thin carbon ribbon but a coarse fabric one. Both are available on a different models of Selectrics. Made after rare enough samples of the same style used during 1980s in the USSR. Based on the actual letter proportions of the original typewriter Selectric (2016) (Cyrillic ball). This time not monospaced as before, but proportional. The single known so far previous typewriter vector typeface with this 'ink blotting' effect (similarly expanded serifs) as in Dodo (2008) is ITC American Typewriter (1974; by Joel Kaden and Tony Stan) and all its hand drawn analogs from 1980s (and perhaps before). Which, in turn, is resembling ATF Bulletin Typewriter's (1925, 1933; by Morris Fuller Benton) overall proportions, geometry, and even had some natural ink expands in its paper sample (but not by design, as I see it).

Modern typefaces refer to designs that bear similarities to Bodoni and other Didone faces, which were first created during the late 1700s. Ed Benguiat developed ITC Modern No. 216 in 1982 for the International Typeface Corporation (ITC). Showing a high degree of contrast between thick and thin strokes, as well as a large x-height, this revival is more suited to advertising display purposes than the setting of long running text, or books. Many traits in Benguiat's design are worth further notice. The thick stems of the roman weights have a very stately, solid presence. Their thin serifs have been finely grafted on, a masterful solution to the challenge of bracketing presented by Modernist designs. The italic weights have a very flowing, script-like feel to them, and the letters take the form of true italics, not obliques. The ITC Modern No. 216 family contains the following font styles: Light, Light Italic, Medium, Medium Italic, Bold, Bold Italic, Heavy, and Heavy Italic.

Aragon ST is a special version of Hans van Maanen’s Aragon family. It was developed for science writing, and it serves as the very first introduction of SciType, an innovative new way of building fonts specifically for typesetting science text. It is a text workhorse that performs very well in a variety of sizes, from footnotes and legal copy to lengthy, immersive-reading body sets. Its efficient and legibility-asserting traits are wedge serifs and uniquely tapered stems that slightly shift the weight stress to the top half of the forms while maintaining the clarity and synergy of the counterspace’s sequence. Probably one of the most unusual applications of a stencil took place in 1964 when Union Carbide [then-owner of the still-new line of "Glad" brand plastic wrap and storage bags] sponsored a $100,000 contest to match up a stencil of their logo in order to win a prize. The magazine ad told of how one thousand lucky participants would win $100 by simply taking a die-cut stencil of the brand name to the store and overlaying it on the logo printed on the food wrap box to see if it aligned perfectly. The hand-lettered title proclaiming "match the stencil and win" was done in a casual sans design and reflected the cheerfulness of many typestyles found in ads during the late 50s and early 60s.

The first versions of Nimbus Sans have been designed and digitized in the 1980s for the URW SIGNUS sign-making system. Highest precision of all characters (1/100 mm accuracy) as well as spacing and kerning were required because the fonts should be cut in any size in vinyl or other material used for sign-making. During this period three size ranges were created for text (T), the display (D) and poster (P) for small, medium and very large font sizes. In addition, we produced a so-called L-version that was compatible to Adobe’s PostScript version of Helvetica. Nimbus was also the product name of a URW-proprietary renderer for high quality and fast rasterization of outline fonts, a software provided to the developers of PostScript clone RIPs (Hyphen, Harlequin, etc.) back then.

Star Ornaments are seen as a long standing companion to many wood type poster layouts. Various manufacturers managed to derive many variations of the five pointed star motif and offered them as a ubiquitous ornament option in almost all of their catalogs. Manufacturers such as Wm. H Page, Morgans & Wilcox, Tubbs Mfg. Co. and of course, Hamilton Wood Type each had their own slight variations. This digital font features almost 100 glyphs of mostly stars, but it also features a unique star border that can create boxes just like the modular offerings of the 19th century. The twist on this digital version is the inclusion of additional connection options that become a unique lettering 'kit' that can create typography or maze-like connections using a limited set of component parts.

Blacker Sans Pro is a complete redesign and development of the original family designed by Francesco Canovaro in 2019 as a sans-serif variant of the successful Blacker created by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini and Andrea Tartarelli. The original idea of Blacker Sans was to create a versatile pairing for Blacker, parting with its spiky wedge serifs but keeping its dark, elegant character and extending its weight range to 20 weights including italics. This Blacker Sans Pro family did also differ in contrast from the original Blacker family, choosing a more even and monolinear, almost grotesque approach. This choice that favored versatility over elegance left some of the original uses of Blacker not covered by its sans counterpart, and so two subfamilies were added, applying to the same skeleton varying degrees of contrast, from the readability-optimized medium contrast of Blacker Sans Text to the extreme variations of Blacker Sans Display, with its elegant juxtapositions of thin curves and thick black slabs. The original signature details of Blacker, like the hook shape of lowercase "f", have been complemented by new alternate forms, ligatures and swashes, with stylistic sets providing options to easily make logos and headings stand out. Rollerscript is, in effect, a more modern version of Olicana whose letterforms were drafted using a nibbed pen and ink. Handwriting tends to change depending on what instrument you're using and with Rollerscript the outcome is decidedly more casual and informal than Olicana, though equally realistic. Pronounced pressure points where characters start, end or join make for a very authentic hand drawn appearance which is enhanced still further through the use of over 100 standard ligatures. My daily challenge is how to get my kids out of bed, feed them breakfast, get them to dress, wash and pack their school bags and drop them off at school before the bell rings. The rest of the day, the challenge is to renovate our house, get my work done, pick up the kids from school (plus all of their friends, who want to come and play) and cook dinner. Of course, the word ‘challenge’ was misused by the internet. Not too long ago, there seemed to be and endless stream of crazy challenges that ended up hurting or even killing a few people. A new 100% handmade brush script font family with lots of swashes, alternates and extras. Caps letters in the script font can also be used as a separate font, so you are getting three, not two, fonts + some extras such as catchwords & design elements. Each letter was carefully traced by hand and have clear edges so both fonts can be safely used on a website (sans serif is 61kB and script is 150kB only!). The font is fully unicode mapped. Most letters in the script typeface have few different swash styles that can be accessed via OpenType panel of your application such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshope and even MS Word. Back in 2017, I was working on a cutout font that I originally wanted to call Scissor Madness. In the end, I named it Cut Along and it was quite a popular font for a while. This week I decided to clean up my fonts folder a bit (as I usually have tons of unfinished fonts lurking in there) and I found a file named Scissor Madness. It was the original try-out for Cut Along. It contained a couple of nice glyphs that I never used, so I started playing around with them and after a day, I had a whole new font! So, in short, Scissor Madness was partly cut out by hand, partly computer made, but it is 100% fun to use! Scissor Madness comes with a bunch of very cute discretionary ligatures.
