Typography or Calligraphy. Unconnected or Connected. For us, at DSType Foundry, that was the main question. With Aparo, we tried to bring the best of the two worlds into a single, yet complex, typeface. Aparo appears to be a very simple bold italic roman typeface, but it has plenty of calligraphic flair, including swashes that make your words stand out, collision detectors so that you don't get weird combinations, alternate characters activated by default for improved calligraphic effect and a very extended character set in a total of 897 glyphs. Linotype Laika is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. This fun font was created by Dutch designer Mark van Wageningen, who based its forms on those of a sans serif font but gave them wavy, irregular contours. They look almost as though they lie just under the surface of a pool and the movement of the water gives them their undulating appearance. The dynamic Linotype Laika is especially good for headlines in larger point sizes or shorter texts in point sizes of 14 or larger.

The Fou typeface family was designed as an alternative to Trade Gothic condensed bold. During the design process of a normally wide font variant a system developed that responds to white space and changing proportions. Thus, round transitions become rectangular and vice versa, space is made and space is taken away. This system and the associated changes are continued on a model with semi-serifs. Fou can also be used as an alternative to Din or the wider Q-Type, but in comparison offers more room for emphasis with its italics, expert sets and numerous special characters.

Glitzy is a caps-only font with extreme contrast. It was inspired by Art Deco typefaces, especially Broadway by Morris Fuller Benton, but Glitzy is not an attempt to reproduce that typeface. The letters on the lower-case keys differ slightly from the letters on the upper-case keys. The large black interiors invite decoration and the family includes four faces with interior decoration. These four faces with interior decoration can be used in layers with the base font to add color to lettering. (OakPark is a another attempt to do high-contrast lettering with an Art Deco feel.)

Every characters are essence from a rectangle (square), a circle and a triangle with require little adjustment to make them appear optically equivalent. Gramma is a compact sans with big x-height, a robust and balanced typeface that work well both for headlines and main bodies of text. The initial constructions, assembled from a few well-defined geometric modules, were later polished into more organic forms; the letters’ arches are quite squared, and the counters and other internal negative spaces push outward, creating a tension that balances the forms’ compression. Gramma’s most evident characteristic is its “bird-beak” terminals (present in many letters, including the c, e, f, s...) that replicate the unconnected junctures between stem and curve, visible in the a,b,d,g,h.

Binny Old Style is based on type designs originally cut in Scotland about 1863. Binny Old Style shows the influence of the types cut by William Caslon but was an attempt to make a modernized version by eliminating some of Caslon's more archaic features. It was cut by some American foundries at the end of the nineteenth century and by Lanston Monotype for mechanical composition, in 1908. Binny Old Style was named after Archibald Binny, a Scotsman who established a type foundry in Philadelphia in 1796. The Binny Old Style font is ideal for small point size settings in newspaper advertisements, catalogues etc.

Croog Pro is an upgraded version of Croog fonts (2009). As its predecessor, the new release is a rounded geometric monoline typeface, but built now in four weights with true italics. One more style has been added - "Black", for display use. Squarish in proportions, monoline letterforms gain more readability by having short rounded serifs and terminals. The typeface is ideal for use in display sizes, though is quite legible in text. Croog Pro is released as OpenType fonts with extended glyph amounts, which enabled support of more Latin languages as well as Cyrillic languages, and includes some OpenType features.

Alan Meeks designed Chesterfield in 1977. Chesterfield is a retro typeface, harkening back to decorative design from the turn of the century. There are many subtle art nouveau traits and curves in Chesterfield, and a hint to Frederic Goudy's work as well. Chesterfield is a display typeface, and should not be used in sizes below 12 point. This typeface would be a great fit for newsletter headlines, or signs for country stores. There are two styles of Chesterfield available: Chesterfield, and Chesterfield Antique. Chesterfield Antique is a more antiquated version of the typeface, and its letters appear slightly corroded.

ITC Jiggery Pokery is the work of British freelance designer Carol Kemp. ITC Jiggery Pokery evolved from lettering for a project which needed to be quirky, wacky and fun," says Kemp. "The name came to me as the letters appear to jig along - it just seemed to fit. 'Jiggery Pokery' is London Cockney slang which has a variety of meanings. It's used to describe behavior such as 'ducking and diving', trickery, juggling (especially of financial matters!), or 'hanky panky'. My grandparents were Cockneys, and my uncle would use colourful rhyming slang which I loved to hear as a child.""

Ballasticus is a controversial bold grotesque for logos, big headlines, posters, signage, gyms, and bodybuilders. The outer contour of the beech is rounded, while the inner space is square. The font contains two barbell icons that can be immediately inserted into your company logo. The character of Ballasticus is honest, stable, open, grounded like a weight. Ballasticus contains extended Latin, Cyrillic, ligatures, barbell and peace sign, as well as alternatives for some letters, the total number of glyphs is more than 700. It contains OpenType functions: liga, numr, dnom, calt, ss01. The font is also case sensitive, has fractions, currency signs, and arrows.

Mocombo JNL is a slightly modified version of one of the numerous alphabets created by the late Alf R. Becker for Signs of the Times Magazine during the period of the 1930s through the 1950s. Tod Swormstedt of ST Media—who is also the curator of the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio—supplied Jeff Levine a wealth of source material from which this font is derived. The angular style of this typeface was originally referred to as “German Poster Lettering” by Becker, but it can represent many styles from 1940s night clubs to African safaris and just about anything in-between.

Urania is a new approach to early sans serif typefaces, in particular Ferdinand Theinhardt’s types which came out at the beginning of the 20th century. Urania is not an adaption, but a new interpretation of familiar and successful formal features, transformed into a contemporary look. The Urania family consists of 18 styles and it comes in OpenType format with extended language support for more than 40 languages. All weights contain ligatures, proportional lining figures, tabular lining figures, proportional old style figures, lining old style figures, matching currency symbols, fraction- and scientific numerals, matching arrows and alternative characters.

Chipperly is a brand new face inspired by the art of the Edwardian poster, especially travel posters. It’s good for clear ad legible headings which need a gentle and unobtrusive period touch, and is the latest is Greater Albion’s line of faces to explore the ‘small capitals’ idea. In its regular weight, Chipperly’s glyphs are semi-shaded within an outer outline giving a distinctive look, while the Heavy weight maintains the separate outline but is completely filled. Maggot is crazy geometric display typeface. First 36 characters were designed during #36daysoftype 2021. Each letter of the typeface fits into a square composed of 49 modules. Maggot contains 112 letters - Basic Latin, Western, Central and South Eastern European diacritics. Each character that contains a mark has two versions: regular, where the mark is above or below the height of the character and alternate, where character with mark is the same height as characters without marks.
