Voluta Script is the work of Austrian designer Viktor Solt, created for use in a guide to the Austrian Gallery at Castle Belvedere. A volute (Latin voluta") is a spiral or scroll-shaped ornament used in the Baroque architecture of Castle Belvedere, similar to the swashes in this typeface. The castle was the historic residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, one of the great military commanders of the 18th century and a prominent figure in Austrian history. When asked to create a typeface based on the calligraphy of the period to illustrate Eugene's epic, Solt turned for inspiration to Kurrent writing, a cursive blackletter style. Solt created a hybrid style that embodies the rhythm and basic forms of its ancestors, with large capitals, dark vertical strokes, and flourished beginning and ending characters. The typeface was designed to be used in sizes of 24 points and greater. Voluta Script allows designers to evoke the Baroque era or to lend a hint of majestic grace to contemporary typesetting."

Rustika is a rather rough Oldstyle typeface. The roughness is seen in larger points only. In smaller points it is not easy to see that I tried to imitate characters cut with a chisel. The characters themselves follow otherwise totally the classic models. The name, in this spelling taken from Esperanto, refers to the rustic nature of the characters. Rustika was released in 1995.

Chunkfeeder was inspired by the many vernacular forms of lettering created for high speed printing and electronic displays found in our modern techie world such as postal packing slips, airline tickets and informational video displays. Many of these type of fonts are designed by engineers and interface designers who presumably do not have a background in letterform design and consequently these glyphs have many quirky idiosyncrasies. “Hey, look at me!” cried the new advertising typefaces. With the nineteenth century and the industrial revolution came an esthetic revolution in type design. Brash, loud, fat display faces elbowed their way into the crowd of book faces, demanding attention. Those who admired traditional book types harumphed and complained. Robert Thorne had fired the opening round with his Fatface. With the cutting of Figgins Antique, the battle was well and truly joined. Job printing came into its own and it seemed like everything changed. The world of printing had been turned upside down and the gentile book-type aficionados recoiled in horror much as the rural landed gentry recoiled at the upstart middle class shopkeepers and manufacturers. William Savage, approvingly quoted by Daniel Berkeley Updike over a hundred years later, described the new display faces as “a barbarous extreme.” These were exciting times. According to Geoffrey Dowding in his An Introduction To The History Of Printing Types, “The types which we know by the name of Egyptian were first shown by Vincent Figgins in his specimen book of 1815, under the name Antique.” Of course, dating the design is not quite as simple as that. Nicolete Gray points out that Figgins used the same “1815” title page on his specimen books from 1815 to 1821, adding pages as needed without regard to archival issues. As a result, there are different versions of the 1815 specimen book. In those copies that include the new Antique, that specific specimen is printed on paper with an 1817 watermark. The design is dated by the 1817 watermark rather than the 1815 title page. Figgins Antique ML is an all-cap font. This typeface is for bold statements. Don't waste it on wimpy whispers of hesitant whimsies. And please don't use it for extended text -- it will only give someone a headache. Think boldly. Use it boldly. Set it tight. The Scriptorium got its start in the early days of personal computers with a few font designs for the Commodore 64, and the very first font which we did back then in the early 1980s was a gothic calligraphy font. That style of fonts - the medieval, gothic and black letter genre - has always been the backbone of our collection, but with recent releases we've stayed away from them to introduce a bit more variety. Well, with our new Zauberer font the antique, medieval and gothic look is back with a vengeance. Zauberer isn't a true medieval calligraphy style. It's based on early printed type from Germany which combines calligraphic elements with decorative embellishments from the woodcut printing era. The result is decorative and antique looking and rather appealing. The name comes from the German word for a magician or illusionist.

Cora is a sans serif with an experimental bent, offering a large x-height, some contrast of stroke weight, and capitals inspired by classical lettering. The large x-height gives it a voice with a little more volume so that those in the back of the room have no trouble hearing. Because the letters seem slightly large, Cora remains clear at smaller point sizes. It is a typeface intended to perform well on screen without losing its attraction in print and the nature of its shapes allows for condensation or expansion without becoming severely distorted. The uppercase exhibits classical proportions found in ancient Roman inscriptions, which provides opportunities for setting titles in all caps. Cora Opentype Pro has a full range of numerals for every use, small caps, the most common open type features and supports many languages that use the latin extended alphabet. It is available in a range of three weights plus Italics. CoraBasic is a reduced version of Cora. It is still an OT-font but without any particular features except of a set of ligatures, class-kerning and language support including CE and Baltic.

A new font inspired by vintage hand-painted paper signs. The Doorbuster Collection is based on retro hand-painted paper signs primarily seen in grocery stores from the 1920s through the 1970s. We meticulously hand-drew each font, modeling the spacing and uneven baseline found in vintage sign painting. The purposely organic ascenders and descenders, along with a huge set of ligatures/contextual alternates to avoid the same letters repeating when paired, give it a real hand-lettered look. Doorbuster Plug is perfect for both vintage-inspired and contemporary marketing, branding, and packaging designs. It's a classic workhorse font from the 1950s thru 1970s.
