Amaro is the Italian word for bitter (amaro) herbal drinks like Ramazotti, Averna and a trillion lesser known ones. These liquors were the literal base for this elaborate set of four fonts. Each has different uppercase letters and some of the lowercase letters vary as well. Amaro-A, B, and C can be mixed freely. The Amaro-D has underlining swashes in two different lengths, the uppercase has the shorter underlines and the lowercase the longer ones. Linotype Mhai Thaipe is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. The work of German designer Markus Remscheid, the name is not hard to recognize as an English-Asian play on my type and describes its general character. The small circles which ornament the alphabet and the unusual flowing forms which look like a mixture of Arabic and Sanskrit combine to give the typeface an ornamental, exotic look. Linotype Mhai Thaipe is best used for headlines with point sizes of 12 or larger.

A nixie tube is a technology from the 50’s used to display numerals that are composed by metal filaments that light up much like a lamp bulb. Due to their beauty these little numerals (0-9) are a love case for any designer, and formally it’s where the inspiration for the Nixin typeface came from. All the other typeface characters and weights are an interpretation from the original 10 numerals, always keeping the same minimalistic spirit and formal elegance. Nixin is a geometric and regular typeface, with a vintage touch and a bit of modernism.

XyloScript is my first script with a woodcut look to it. Still, it is very elegant. Xylo is Greek and means “wood”. This script is another one I designed in the tradition of the 18th-century English calligrapher George Bickham and the 19th-century American calligrapher Platt Rogers Spencer. I like it, your very crafty Gert Wiescher BTW if your font manager tells you that the font is corrupted, just ignore that! This script is very complex and that’s causing some font managers to say the font is corrupted. I have tested it and it works fine!

The font family "DEADman" is mostly inspired by the weird style of the British illustrator Ralph Steadman. He had a long partnership with the American journalist Hunter S. Controlled casualness is the watchword in this new handwriting script from the prolific young French designer Éric de Berranger, who also designed the sans serif type family ITC Octone. ITC Berranger Hand has its roots in chancery calligraphy, yet its surface looks like contemporary informal lettering that was written quickly with a felt-tip pen on slightly absorbent paper. The counters of some letters appear to almost fill in from ink spread, yet Berranger Hand is admirably readable at small sizes. Rever is an experimental typeface by a young designer Sasha Smirnov. It clearly alludes to 19th century typefaces with reverse contrast, but still the character shapes are as simple and geometric as possible. Rever answers the question “What can a reverse-contrast typeface look like today?” Its set of styles is non-traditional: in addition to a regular one, there are also an oblique (slanted to the left, not to the right!) and a stencil styles. ITC Kulukundis is the work of designer Daniel Pelavin, a square, connecting script which looks as though it could have been cast in shiny chrome for the side of a 1950s American roadster. Pelavin based his design very loosely on a vertical French script but the overall look is all his own. Unlike calligraphic scripts, the lower case letters all connect in exactly the same way and the straight diagonal junctures give the typeface its broad, spacious character and keep it locked into a continuous line.
