The LifeAfterCollege family began as a set of four fonts based on two styles of Ranger, which are slab-serif, geometric fonts with no curves. Two of the four are outlines with hollow insides, and two have-filled insides. The two fonts that are outlined have been taken apart and made into three typeface that can be layered. This allows one color for the inside, another for the middle ring, and a third for the outside outline.

Giambattista Bodoni (1740–1813) was called the King of Printers and the Bodoni font owes its creation in 1767 to his masterful cutting techniques. Predecessors in a similar style were the typefaces of Pierre Simon Fournier (1712–1768) and the Didot family (1689–1836). The Bodoni font distinguishes itself through the strength of its characters and embodies the rational thinking of the Enlightenment. Umbilical Noose is a rather scary typeface. It is quite similar to an older font of mine: Nyctophobia. The name comes from a Nirvana song called Heart Shaped Box, in which Kurt Cobain sings: "throw down your umbilical noose, so I can climb right back". I have always liked that phrase a lot. Umbilical Noose is an all caps font, but upper and lower case are different and you can easily interchange the glyphs.

The Oslo Stitch is a technique used in Nålebinding, a kind of fabric creation predating knitting and crochet. I have no particular interest in Nålebinding (nor in knitting), but I needed a name with ‘stitch’ in it and this is what I found! Oslo Stitch font is a nice, handmade, all caps font, which you can use for your book covers, posters and anything else that needs a bit of stitching up.

Gladiola is a smooth and balanced brush script font. It is suitable for logos, titles, t-shirts, packages and where ever you will need this kind of lining and legible script font. Call me some kind of weird, but I find designing fonts about the most fun you can have out of bed. Legible-scmedgible, sometimes you just have follow the font muse regardless of where she takes you. She threw me a circle, a triangle, a rounded stroke and a rounded-cornered square; “Make glyphs,” she sang. Okay! Is it legible? Yes. Is it readable? Kinda. For the right project, though, that’s enough!

A 1990s-vintage Radiohead poster by Jermaine Rogers provided the go-by for this tight, trippy techno face. Jermaine's design, it turns out, was an adaptation of a Ray Larabie font, Dignity of Labour. This version cleverly combines stark geometry with Art Nouveau sensibilities to produce a kind of Digital DNA feel. Merkén is a typeface inspired in the Slab Serif fonts designed by Vincent Figgins in the early 20th century: his famous designs; Antique and Egiziano, were the main references when developing this project. The typeface is perfect for headlines, medium length texts, branding and advertising. His original set is strong and spicy but it also has an alternative set which is cursive and kind.

Slughals is danish for someone who eats to much in a kind of greedy way. It came to my mind that "slug" ("swallow" in danish) is snail in English. It lead my mind to the brushtraces of the font, could look like traces from a snail/slug. Slughals has ligatures for most double letters and two fancy swashes for the letters r and k.

Dapplegrim is a Norwegian fairytale collected by Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe in their book ‘Norske Folkeeventyr’. The story is about a boy who inherits a big horse (called Dapplegrim, or Grimsborken in Norwegian) and sets off to rescue the king’s daughter from a nasty troll. Dapplegrim is a handmade fairytale font. Use it for your book covers, product packaging and fairytale collections!
