This family was created/inspired from the well-known Baskerville Roman and Italic typefaces created by John Baskerville, the English font designer. We were inspired by the original family sent by Baskerville’s wife after his death. The full Baskerville collection was bought by the French editor and author Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais who used it to print - in Switzerland - for the first time the complete works of Voltaire (known as the “Kehl edition” from the "Imprimerie de la société littéraire typographique"). We have used this edition, with copies from 1785, to reconstruct these two genuine historical styles. The font faces, kerning, and spacing are scrupulously identical to the original. Archie is a wide attention-grabber based on a simple geometric alphabet drawn in the early 1930s by Dutch calligrapher and lettering artist Martin Meijer. This digital family expands considerably on the original letters, adding biform shapes, small caps, italics across the board, and support for many Latin-based languages. Archie's eye-catching forms are meant for clear, seamless and strong message delivery. In its upright styles, strong vertical strokes emphasize the sense of confidence and importance, and in its italics, that emphasis is further affirmed by a natural sense of urgency. Chicago Ornaments is a collection of decorative cuts cast by the Chicago Type Foundry of Marder, Luse & Co. of 139-141 Monroe Street in Chicago, Illinois. This collection was shown in their 1890 Price List. According to William E. Loy, at least some of them were designed by William F. Capitain. Chicago was one of the innovative Midwest type foundries, introducing the American Point System. These designs represent the late Victorian period. After 1890, with the posters of Jules Cheret taking Paris by storm, Art Nouveau gradually began to displace Victorian style. In type design, both styles competed against each other until about the end of the century. Designers may want to consider using these ornaments when using Victorian style typefaces, like our Cruickshank, Edison and Freak - as well as faces by others such as Karnac, Kismet and Quaint Gothic. Included in the font are a set of Dormer-inspired caps, numerals and a few other glyphs - also from the Victorian period.

FranklinGothicHandCond is another part of a series of hand-drawn fonts from way back in time – before computers changed the way we worked in advertising. When I was in advertising – before computers – a very time consuming part of my daily work was sketching headlines. I used to be able to sketch headlines in Franklin Gothic, Times, Futura, Helvetica and several scripts. We had a kind of huge inverted camera – which we called Lucy. We projected the alphabet onto a sheet of transparent paper, outlined the letters with a fineliner and then filled them in. It was very tedious work, but the resulting headline had its own charm and we had a permanent race going on who was best and fastest. I won most of the time! They used to call me the fastest "Magic Marker" this side of the Atlantic. Great days, just like today! Your sentimental type designer from the past, Gert Wiescher.

Grand Slam is based on an old cardwriting style known as Poster Gothic. This dynamic letterstyle was used in the heyday of the Hollywood movie poster because of its powerful and snappy appeal. The face is of uniform thickness and made as wide as possible without interfering with legibility. Its vertical strokes seem to be thickened slightly where normal serifs would be. It is interesting to note that another group of tiny little serifs populate the entire design. Grand Slam comes with a complete set of alternates including small caps and small figures. A lowercase has been added for greater versatility. Grand Slam is now available in the OpenType format. In addition to small caps, lining figures, oldstyle figures, petite lining figures, and swashes, this expanded OpenType version contains some new stylistic alternates. These advanced features work in current versions of Adobe Creative Suite InDesign, Creative Suite Illustrator, and Quark XPress. Check for OpenType advanced feature support in other applications as it gradually becomes available with upgrades.

The main source of inspiration for this project was Herb Lubalin's Serif Gothic font. This and other fonts of similar style provided the basis for developing a unique display typeface with a strong personality yet neutral enough to be used in a variety of applications. In order to make the font more versatile, we included a number of layered fonts, like inline and shadow styles, which, along with the core styles, provide users with a wide range of choices for any design project. First conceived as the upper-and lowercase “e” for the logotype of independent publishers Elemental Editions, the letterforms were so well received that they were extended to an entire typeface and formed the basis for a bespoke font – Eef. The type design draws inspiration from the basic elements, the periodic table, functionalist vintage lettering and influences from other classic geometric typefaces with condensed cuts such as Futura and Trade Gothic. The extended set is now developed into a family consisting of three weights – Regular, Medium and Bold. Behrens Initialen is based on the type graphics of the German architect and type designer Peter Behrens (1868-1940). The drawing of the original typeface is in tune with the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) style in which Behrens worked. This is a light, delicate, somewhat theatrical typeface, the forms of which bear at the same time a certain shade of Gothic and modernity, and can be used, in particular, when there is a need to make a reference to medieval graphics while maintaining the modern style of composition. In the proposed version, the original initial graphics are used not only for uppercase letters, but also for Arabic figures, while for lowercase letters and for the base of other characters are used the letters themselves - without decorative framing. This feature can be useful for obtaining various effects when using both lower and upper cases in parallel, including when they are overlaid. Hadron is a fusion of gothic black letter and foundational letter forms. It has a heavy flat pen influence but is combined with more modern letter forms for increased legibility over that offered by black letter fonts. Unlike most black letter fonts, Hadron can be set all caps using the first level of caps. A basic design kernel based on the caps “O” and “H” was created first. These letter forms consist of an interplay between curves and straight lines with abrupt transitions and also possess some of the geometric crispness of a modern sans serif. The rest of the Hadron font was developed around this “O” and “H” kernel. This font could be used for any application requiring a formal black letter or foundational lettering look. Hadron could also be used for invitations, brochures and posters. The first level of caps and lower case is basic enough to set a large body of text. It could also be set all caps at that level.

The design of Rosenbaum started with the idea of an eclectic merger of didone stroke pattern and contrast, uncial letterforms and blackletter appearance. It was a destillation experiment. It happened around christmas in 2011. The result is a unique typeface which strongly evokes a peculiar pastiche mood without being any historical in the strict sense of the word. It’s all about the fun to mix ingredients and to freely create reminiscences in a new way. Rosenbaum is a typeface like a fairytale – one of a kind, strangely poetic and incredibly true at once… Use Rosenbaum for emotional typographics, for fairytale books and stories, for headings and invitations, for distinctive labels or menu cards, for Wave Gothic publishing … you will know best! VLNL TpDuro was designed by chef Martin Lorenz and Juanra ‘Wete’ Pastor. Its concept was inspired by an Albrecht Dürer design from 1525, which shows a system to construct a gothic lowercase letter. Following the logic of this lowercase construction, but not the traditional uppercase letters of regular fraktur (brokenscript) alphabets, some brand new upper case letters were designed. The 45 degree tilted square that forms the basis of the letters, is as square and hard as a cracker. And we love crackers. You can put cheese on them. The ‘pixel’ feeling of the downstroke was intensified by repeating the rotated square module as often as they could. All this resulted in a strong, dark typeface with a steady rhythm, with one foot in history and the other in modern times. It works well as a display typeface for short texts, headlines and logos. Music festivals and heavy metal bands should also pay attention. This is hard stuff.

Made in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland), HyperTurfu was born during the shooting of “The Return of Hyperturfu Xpress 2”. A GoPro on a lego electric train, meters and meters of rails, an empty industrial space, loads of puppets, paper, cardboard, pizza boxes, lights, hot glue and a bunch of friends preparing a one shot scene for a month. The title of the movie was made out of lego pieces, painted with golden spray and hanged over the rails. It was the first inspiration for this awsome superbold font. HyperTurfu is thought from ground up to give a strong impact. It’s gothic retro science fiction 80’s style makes it best suitable for metal music albums or posters. As the “Banco” font it works perfectly with short texts for advertisement, bar, cofee shops concert places or even fancy hairdresser. Just hang it over a pet shop and see what cool animals will come in.

Italic type was invented by Aldus Manutius in 1499 or 1501, first, before to be a style name, it was a plain font familly name. This Italique style font was inspired from these who was used by Jean de Tournes in Lyon (France) to print La mÈtamorphose d'Ovide figurÈe, a splendid book with numerous gothic style wood carved pictures. The original font contains almost all modern usual characters except accented ones, no longer in use on that time. They have been added, with some others, with respect for the original design. . A render sheet, enclosed in file, help to identify various others unusual letters on keyboard. It is used as successfuly as web-site titles, posters and fliers design, editing ancien texts or greeting cards, invitations, gastronomic menus... and much more, as a very decorative and elegant font... It supports easily as enlargement as small size, remaining clear and easy to read from 8 or 9 points to 72 and more, particularly on prints.

ROARRR! THE STYLES -Pantera Pro is the most complete style, and although its default look is mono-rhythmic it gets really playful and crazy like the examples of the posters by just activating the Decorative Ligatures button in the Open-type Panel of Adobe Illustrator. However, I recommend using also the Glyphs Panel because there you'll find much more variants per letter. Pantera Pro is in fact, coded in a way the combination of thicknesses will always look fantastic. -Pantera Black Left, and Pantera Black Right are actually “lite” versions of Pantera Pro: They have very little Open-Type code, so what you see here is what you get. Pantera Black Left has its left strokes thick, while Pantera Black Right has its right strokes thick. -Pantera White is a lovely member in this family that looks lighter and airy, hence its name. With the feature Standard Ligatures activated (liga) the font gets very playful. -Pantera Caps is based on sign painters lettering and since it follows the same pointed brush rules as the other styles, it matches perfectly. -Pantera Claws like its name suggests, is a set of icons that were done by our dear panther. THE STORY It is said that typography can never be as expressive as calligraphy, but sometimes it can get close enough. I tend to think that calligraphic trials, in order to work well as potential fonts, need first to go through very strict filters before going digital: While calligraphy is synonym of freedom (once its rules are mastered), type-design, in the other hand, has its battlefield a little tighter and tougher. When I practice pointed brush lettering, there are so many things happening on the paper. And most of them are delicious. The ones who know my work may see that although many of my fonts are very expressive, my handmade brush trials are much more lively than them. With that in mind, this time I tried to go further and rescue more of those things that are lost in the process of thinking type when first sketches are calligraphic. I wondered if I could create something wild, hence its name Panther, by understanding the randomness that sometimes calligraphy conveys and turning it to something systemic: With Pantera, I created an ordered disorder. Like it happens a lot in many kinds of lettering styles, in order to enrich the written word the scribe mixes the thickness of the strokes and the width of the letters. Like one of my favorite mentors say (1), they make thoughtful gestures Some lively strokes go down with a thick, while some do that with a thin. Some letters are very narrow, meaning some of them will need to be very wide to compensate. Why not?. The calligrapher is always thinking on the following letters, and he/she designs in his head the combination of thicks and thins before he/she executes them. He/she knows the playful rhythm the words will have before writing them. It takes time and skill to master this and achieve graceful results. Going back to the font, in Pantera, this combination of varying thicknesses and widths of letters were Open-Type coded so the user will see satisfactory results by just enabling or disabling some buttons on the glyphs panel. I'm very pleased with the result since it’s not very easy to find fonts which play with the words' rhythm like Pantera does, following of course, a strong calligraphic base. I have always been fascinated by Tengu - a mythical creature from Japan. Tengu are usually depicted with a red face, a very long nose, white moustaches and a funny hat. They used to be regarded as harbingers of war, but over the centuries, their image softened and they became the protective spirits of mountains and forests. Daitengu means ‘greater tengu’ and stems from the Genpei Jōsuiki - an extended version of the ‘The Tale of the Heike’ - an epic account of the struggle between the Taira and Minamoto clans for control of Japan. So, now you know about tengu, end of the history lesson! Daitengu is an epic brush font. I made it with a soft brush and China ink (like most of my brush fonts), but instead of forming the glyphs I saw in my head, I let the brush do the work. A more ‘zen’ approach to brushwork if you will! The result is a messy, organic brush font with a lot of spirit. Comes with diacritics and double letter ligatures.

This all started with a love for Minister. This is a font designed by Carl Albert Fahrenwaldt in 1929. In the specimen booklet there’s a scan from Linotype’s page many years ago. They no longer carry the font. I’ve gone quite a ways from the original. It was dark and a bit heavy. But I loved the look and the readability. This came to a head when I started my first book on all-digital printing written from 1994-1995, and published early in 1996. I needed fonts to show the typography I was talking about. At that point oldstyle figures, true small caps, and discretionary ligatures were rare. More than that text fonts for book design had lining OR oldstyle figures, lowercase OR small caps—never both. So, I designed the Diaconia family (using the Greek word for minister). It was fairly rough. I knew very little. I later redesigned and updated Diaconia into Bergsland Pro —released in 2004. It was still rough (though I impressed myself). In 2006, I found myself needing a readable sans serif. So I went to Bergsland Pro, and eliminated the serifs. I named the font Brinar. I kept a flare in place for the serifs and cupped the ends. I was stunned. People loved it. It’s remained my bestseller until very recently. So, at the end of 2016 I decided that Brinar really needed some help. The flares were basically random. The stem width and modulation variances all needed to be fixed. My old OpenType feature code was quite limited and clumsy. So, I created the 6-font Biblia family. I cleaned up or redesigned all the glyphs. I updated the fonts to the 2017 set of features: small caps, small cap figures, oldstyle figures, fractions, lining figures, ligatures and discretionary ligatures. These are fonts designed for book production and work well for text or heads.

Archive Garamond is a typeface roughly based on the designs of Claude Garamond (ca. 1480 – 1561), a French publisher and a leading typeface designer of that period. Garamond’s influence on type design is reflected in many typefaces that are today known under different commercial names. While the majority of contemporary digital interpretations of the “Garamond types” are cleaner and more polished versions of that genre, Archive Garamond tries to keep the rough nature which was typical in the early days of printing. Archive Garamond has a rather unique, distinctive temperament which is even more emphasised with the preserved non-uniformity, such as irregular glyph shapes or a variable baseline. Although Archive Garamond was clearly made to be used for display sizes it works surprisingly well in text. Archive Garamond is availale in three versions, each containing approximately 600 glyphs (in Pro versions). Archive Garamond Pro A Professional version of the typeface contains all glyphs, including the advanced typographic forms, such as different sets of figures, small caps, swashes, historical forms, etc. The font also enables full use of the OpenType features. It fully supports the languages listed in the language list. Archive Garamond Std A Standard version of the typeface is meant to be used for the basic typographic work. It typically contains the most common glyphs. The standard figures are proportional lining. Besides kerning this version does not contain any advanced OpenType features. A Standard file type fully supports the languages listed in the Language list. Archive Garamond Exp An Expert version contains glyphs that are supposed to be used in advanced typographic works. This type of file contains uppercase and small cap glyphs with the proportional oldstyle figures as the default set. Besides kerning this version does not contain any advanced OpenType features (all OTF features have to be replaced manually). An Expert file type fully supports the languages listed in the Language list.

Disruptor's Script is the alter ego of our previous project Gentlemen's Script. Unlike the Gentlemen's Script, the new font is an elegant rebel and defies traditions. The font is painted with a brush pen, which is especially noticeable in the characteristic shabbiness and different thicknesses of the strokes. While the Gentlemen's Script is an embodiment of a classic costume, dress shoes and an expensive watch, Disruptor's Script is a fashionable suit, sneakers, an iWatch and a tattoo that peeks from under the shirt. The font retained the incline, speed and overall sense of dynamics inherent in Gentlemen's Script, but got a bit more chaotic and unpredictable. This is especially noticeable in the newly added shabbiness, elongated extenders, a large number of contextual alternates and different ligatures. For some high-frequency letters (10 for the Latin alphabet and 10 for the Cyrillic alphabet), we painted alternative versions that are substituted in the word instead of the standard characters when following our preceding certain groups of letters. In addition, in the Disruptor's Script you can find functional ligatures, including some of the frequently occurring two- and three-letter combinations. All these solutions dilute the monotonous line of the set, add a bit of unpredictability to the font and a touch of chaos to inscriptions. To fully enjoy usage of the font, we recommend that you always keep the features contextual alternates (calt) and standard ligatures (liga) turned on. If you do not have access to applications that support OpenType features, it does not matter—even without these features you can use and enjoy our font!
