Havel is an updated interpretation of a Czech type design from the 1930s. It is powerful and very condensed. At a quick glance you might find kinship with other condensed typefaces of the same period, like Spire (Sol Hess, 1937), Onyx (Gerry Powell for ATF, 1937) or Quirinus Bold (Alessandro Butti, 1939). Plywood is based on a long lost American film classic: Franklin Typefounders's Barker Flare from the early 1970s. Plywood is a surprisingly effective mix between the rigid confidence of nineteenth century wood types and the smooth feminine curves of twentieth century art nouveau ideas. Although at first sight Mashine is a strict, "non-design" typeface, this display font is not as geometric as it seems. This humanist sans-serif typeface was exhaustively designed, full-featured typeface family that reveals its character and distinctiveness in complex text. Isaac Newton, father of the theory of gravity, used several forms of handwriting in his life, in numerous texts about numerous scientific subjects. Here, we propose a handwritten font, using a particularly legible script form, coming from texts written in 1672, the year he presented a new reflecting telescope to the Royal Society. It is a Pro font containing Western, Eastern, Central and Northern European, Icelandic, Baltic, and Turkish diacritics. P22 Slogan is a non-connecting script font that captures the essence of the lettering used in 1950s European advertising. Bold strokes of this brush-drawn face make this design a great choice for both retro design and contemporary work. The font is based on the 1957 design Slogan by Aldo Novarese for the Italian Nebiolo Type Foundry. At the time of its original release, it was touted for "striking publicity work". This new digitization accurately reproduces the outlines of the original not found in previous digital versions of this design. Akagi started as a rough sketch while on a really long plane ride to Tokyo in 2007. I wanted to develop a sans that was a complete departure from my successful Aaux Pro (now Aaux Next) sans serif family. Whereas Aaux and its siblings are rather unforgiving and stark in their presentation, I wanted this new sans serif to "smile" at you when it's on the page. When the plane landed and I realized I did not sleep through the 15 hour trip, my brain shut off, the laptop closed and I hopped in the car to the hotel—forgetting the "new sans" folder on my desktop. Fast forward a few months and I found myself seeing a lot of crisp, rigid, robot-like sans serif typefaces everywhere... I enjoy these new crop of faces but wanted to see something "friendlier" and remembered my earlier sketch work. The groundwork was there screaming at me to complete and Akagi arose from the ashes. To be truly satisfied with it personally, a great deal of time was spent trying to create a harmony between line and curve in an attempt to show that you can be crisp, clean and legible and still keep some personality. The Light and Fat weights (regular and italic) are my favorites and I hope to see them as the workhorses of the typeface.

Caslon Antique is a decorative American typeface that was designed in 1894 by Berne Nadall. It was originally called "Fifteenth Century", but was renamed "Caslon Antique" by Nadall's foundry, Barnhart Bros. & Spindler, in the mid-1920s. The design of the typeface is meant to evoke the Colonial era. Early printers would reuse metal type over and over again, and the faces would become chipped and damaged from use. Caslon Antique emulates this look. Despite the name, it is not a member of the Caslon family of typefaces. The renaming is believed to have been a marketing maneuver to boost the popularity of a previously unpopular typeface by associating it with the highly popular Caslon types. The Barnhart Bros. & Spindler foundry put out a caps-only face called Dante. We liked it, but felt it needed a lowercase. The result here is a rather nice square design, which has become a personal favorite.

The shapes of the f-holes on a violin reminded German designer André Maaßen of an italic letter "f". Maaßen used these captivating contours as the theme for his type family, Varius. The name "Varius" is an homage to the manufacturer of the violin that inspired Maaßen's project, Antonio Stradivarius, the most famous manufacturer of violins in music history. Varius has three separate styles. Varius 1 and its italic are the base style of the family, and are typefaces in the baroque serif manner. Varius 2 and its italic are slab serif egyptiennes, slightly heavier than Varius 1's more classical forms. Varius 3 and its italic are semi serif faces; their characters are serifed, but some of the serifs have been cut off. The family is rounded out with two pi faces: an ornaments font (which can be used in conjunction with the text fonts, or on its own to create beautiful borders or individual decorative elements), and a font of musical symbols and notations. Font designed from that used in France in 1492 to print the peace treaty between French and Enqlish Kings in Etaples, French town in Normandy. This font include "long s", naturally, as typically medieval, and only a few special characters as there were not very often used in the text, no more than abbreviations.
