Our chef Martin Lorenz likes to mix cool and fresh cocktails - shaken, not stirred! You have to taste his awesome Martini or mix it yourself! To make matters more easy, cocktail master Martin reveals his special recipe: “The TpMartini refers esthetically to typefaces drawn with a pointed nib as the Bodoni or Didot, but with the clear distinction that it is obviously constructed by modules. The visual system for the TpMartin is based on a square 5x9-unit grid and three different basic forms with which the font and other elements are designed. The basic forms consist of a straight line and circles of two different sizes. The line can be extended, but the circles retain their related proportions.” One piece of advice: Don’t drink and type!

VetteLetters is proud to bring you the TpKurier-family. It is cooked up by our German chef Martin Lorenz currently living in lovely Barcelona! Chef Lorenz about the TpKurier recipe: “TpKurier is the second redesign we did of Courier. The first redesign in 2000, although based on a five-unit grid, was drawn completely by hand. Six years later we designed another grid version of Courier, and the TpKurier family was born. This version is completely constructed up till its last detail. We didn't want to correct ‘mistakes’ deriving from the use of the grid, but instead make them visible (see “S”). TpKurier is based on a very simple grid, composed a proportion of four units high by two units wide. A series of other links between them make it possible to form a font from this grid. We felt it was important to consistently work within these limitations so that any unexpected asperities would help provide the font with its character. Even though it is a rough constructed typeface it was important to us to design real italic lower case letters and not just a sloped roman (see “a”, “g” or “s”). The first family published contained a serif and sans-serif version of the TpKurier, with italic and bold.”

The serif version has been designed to work best at small point sizes (around 8, 9 points). You will not achieve calm, boring or invisible look of your text with Preto Serif. Its long, spiky and sharp serifs contribute to give the typeface a distinct and energetic character. It is very suitable for magazines, corporate identity, brochures or other print materials where a typeface for continuous reading is required. The ligatures in Preto Serif are very special. You can set them in different tracking values and spacing will increase/decrease consistently in the ligatures as well. Alternative characters in the font files allow you to change the feeling of the text from typical to more special (J, Q, g , &). Some years ago I designed Chalfont as a sans face. All the characters have a top heavy look when viewed straight on, however, as most type is read at an angle with the top further away than the bottom, this top heavy look is diminished. Chalfont Roman, although re-drawn with some alterations, is still basically the same face but with a top left serif giving more emphasis to the top heavy characteristics. I have also added a set of non ranging numerals.

Front Desk is designed to be easily readable, its increased legibility coming from the slightly enlarged lower case letters (a greater x-height) which make it easy on the eye. Also it is slightly slanted (but a lot less than a normal italic angle) to give it a more informal and modern look than a perfectly upright font would be, which is also intended to contribute extra dynamism while reading. Penitentiary Gothic is a digital recreation of the letters used on California state license plates, designed in order to make props for movies and television shows. The regular style is meant to be used on its own, but the other four styles are meant to be used one on top of another in different colors to create an embossed 3D effect. For best results, use the fill style in a dark color on top of a light colored background. Put the lolite style directly on top of the fill style in 10 - 30% of the background color. Put the hilite style directly on top of that in 10 - 30% of your fill color. Put the shadow style directly on top of that using your background color plus 50 - 80% black.
