 Bobbi Bee is very proud of all of her 361 numbers, letters and alternates - all of which are chock full of summer sunshine and life. The font comes in a single weight (because she's perfect just the way she is.) She's cut out for a very special book title, logotype, or love letter. Keep Bobbi's hand firmly in yours in shopping malls, as she tends to get distracted and wander, and though it's hard, always remember to tell her how smart she is, as well as how beautiful.

Havel is an updated interpretation of a Czech type design from the 1930s. It is powerful and very condensed. At a quick glance you might find kinship with other condensed typefaces of the same period, like Spire (Sol Hess, 1937), Onyx (Gerry Powell for ATF, 1937) or Quirinus Bold (Alessandro Butti, 1939). But Havel has its very own look, rooted in the rapidly disappearing "Eastern European Type", a typographical tradition where poster and packaging design were the highlights. Torbjörn Olsson has revived this classical Czech beauty, and the Open Type version, Havel Pro, can also be used for Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian.

In Holland, all kids have a six week long school holiday during the summer months. To prevent chaos, traffic jams and other madness, the government has divided the country in three regions (North, Middle and South) and school holidays start a few days to a week and a half apart. For kids this is the best time of the year, as they can have fun for a month and a half, but for us parents this sometimes is a bit of a logistic nightmare, as we still have to work! Though there are many thousands of digital typefaces available, none seem to be made exclusively of letters that tessellate, a complete tessellating alphabet. This void is now filled with not one typeface, but a group of typefaces, the Tescellations kinship group. Even though I am aware of only one use for this typeface--writing about tessellations--that does not mean there are not hundreds or perhaps thousands of other uses. These typefaces are a byproduct of two maze books I designed, Puzzling Typography and Puzzling Typography A Sequel. I found the challenge of making mazes from tessellations, including letter tessellations, intriguing and these typefaces are a byproduct that endeavor. There are seven members of this typeface kinship group. I tried to select the the glyphs that fit together best to form Tescellations; it is the most readable of the lot. The reason for an Italics version is that I needed one for the maze project. In constructing it, I tried to include as many different lower-case glyphs as I could rather than just skew the regular version. A purist might insist that the tessellation deal with the counters. My approach was to worry only about the exterior of any letter that has an interior, but for anyone who who might object to the counters, versions with filled counters are included. What did not fit into Tescellations was dumped into Tescellations Two, which is somewhat of a ransom-note type of face. It comes in two styles, a regular version and a version in which the counters are removed. TescellationPatterns shows how many of the characters in these typefaces tessellate. It has over 100 tessellation patterns, each on only one character. Simply type several lines with any character and make sure the leading is the same as the font size, and you have an instant tessellation pattern of a letter.

Zulia is located in the west of Venezuela and it is the state in where Joluvian grew up. It is a region of sunshine, high temperatures, oil and cheerful people, although we choose the name to honor his mother who is from there (zuliana) and who is proud of her land and everything that it represents the area. Zulia is also his first typographic project. It is based on two of his favourite calligraphic styles: italic and brush pen. He started with simple and contrasted strokes on paper with brush and marker. After that he developed the full alphabet and its various options for each letter, starting from a set of handmade forms that could be connected in different ways according to the user needs. What motivates him to involve this style was to create a differentiation with his daily work by generating a heavier type, contrasted and low rise. Zulia finally got life of its own with the participation of Alejandro Paul and a feedback of techniques and skills that were generated with the duo work. Zulia is not just a typeface, Zulia is his love of letters.

The letters of Trapezoidal are like sheep: they do not like being alone but want to be part of a flock. Many of the individual letters of Trapezoidal look strange and unshapely in isolation because they are designed to fit into a pattern with other letters. That pattern is formed by alternating asymmetric trapezoids, with trapezoids that are wide at the top alternating with trapezoids that are wide at the bottom. The magic of the OpenType feature of contextual alternatives (calt) automatically alternates them. The fonts in the family are largely monospaced and have very tight letter spacing. (If for some reason one wants to use only one set of the letters, the letters will overlap unless one widens character spacing.) (If D and O are too similar, use the alternative versions of D.) The family has five weights and each weight has an italics formed by flipping the trapezoidal pattern over a vertical line. Like other alternating-character typeface families from IngrimayneType, this distinctive and visually-arresting family can be used for titles or advertising.
