Chaparral is the work of type designer Carol Twombly and combines the legibility of slab serif designs popularized in the 19th century with the grace of 16th century roman book lettering. Religions are filled with signs and symbols. Some of them, like the the star of David and the Swastika-Rune received other significance during the third Reich. The superimposition of these two shapes creates the basis for this font. Matchwerk is a font, that critically questions and recalls the darkest chapter of our history.

Caterina, was selected personally by Francis Ford Coppola for the film he produced called The Legend of Suriyothai. It's not the credits, but text placed in the center of the screen to introduce information about the setting, the characters, and so on. Something like chapter headings in a book, or the text in silent movies.

Is This the End has three different ornamental endpieces ready to use in end chapters, final pages in books, magazines and several artistic representations. Each endpiece may be used in different languages like German, Bulgarian, Croatian, Danish, Spanish, Finnish, French, Dutch, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, English and Portuguese. Intellecta Design researched these endpieces from the very rare Richard Gans type catalogue from 1882.

This family was inspired by numerous documents and books printed in Paris during the end of the 1700s. Mainly, documents printed by P.G. Simon & N.H. Nyon, “Printers of the parliament” were used for the Normal and italic styles and “Caps”. “Titling” characters were coming from a collection of hymns printed by Nicolas Chapart. In France these Fournier characters, as Baskerville in Great Britain, were the most often in use in the late 1700s, just before the Didot designs. This font supports strong enlargements, specially the capitals of “Caps” file and “Titling”, remaining very smart, elegant and fine.

Granville, is inspired by traditional British (and transatlantic) shop signage. It's an elaborate confection, drawing on Roman and Blackletter influences and is ideal to give any project an instant Victorian feel. Granville is offered in Regular, Condensed and Expanded widths as well as an oblique form and a yet more decorative 'Grand' form. These faces are especially suitable for posters, period advertising, Chapter headings and signage.

When the Adventures of Max Faraday began in the pages of Wildstorm Comics' DIVINE RIGHT in the mid-'90s, this chapter title font materialized, eventually reappearing on the covers of WOLVERINE. Delicately crafted by Mister Fontastic himself, John Roshell claims this font was the product of Divine Inspiration. When told he'd been looking at the work of too many French Poster Artists, he dismissed such allegations as Mucha do about nothing.

Blackletter typefaces, also known as Gothic, Fraktur, or Old English, have been used in the headings and initial chapters of books. This style of typeface is recognizable by its dramatic thin and thick strokes, and in some fonts, the elaborate swirls on the serifs. Blackletter typefaces are based on early manuscript lettering and evolved in Western Europe from the mid twelfth century. They are best used for headings, logos, posters, and signs, as they are not easy to read in body texts. Blackletter was type that emulated the most common handwritten scripts of the era and was used for books of hours and initial chapters of books Brazilian type designer Paulo W created this font ideally suited for advertising and packaging, festive occasions, editorial and publishing, logo, branding and creative industries as well as poster and billboards. Arkwright, named for a well known fictional shopkeeper who kept his shop open all hours is inspired by traditional British (and transatlantic) shop signage. It is a spiritual companion and ideal companion to our more elaborate Granville family. Arkwright is offered in Regular and bold weights and a more decorative 'Grand' form. These faces are especially suitable for posters, period advertising, Chapter headings and signage. Arkwright and Granville are also offered together in a value pack.

Gildersleeve evokes the spirit of the Arts and Crafts movement of the 1920s. Think of a hand-cut Roman display face, with loving care lavished over each serif and letterform. Gildersleeve is offerered in the classic combination of a regular face, a bold face, an italic and an italic bold. Any of them are ideal for poster or cover work, as well as for chapter and section headings in a longer document, in combination with a text face such as Vertrina or Clementhorpe Text.

This family was inspired by an engraved plate from Diderot & Dalembert's Encyclopedia (publication beginning in 1751), illustrating the chapter devoted to letter engraving techniques. The plate bears two engravers names : "Aubin" (may be one of the four St Aubin brothers ?)and "Benard" ( which name is present below all plates of the Encyclopedia printed in Geneva ). It seems to be a transitional type, but different from Fournier or Grandjean. Small caps are included in fonts for TTF and OTF version, separate files are included in the family sets of the Mac TT version.

Our main purpose while developing this typeface was to reconstruct, in the most precise way, the first ten plates of the “Arte de Escribir”, in a chapter named “Enseñanza de la letra italiana, y sus principales variaciones, autores, sistemas, &c.”, dedicated to the analysis of the Italian Script. We decided by this plates because those are the few that don’t refer, directly or indirectly, to any author in particular. We strongly believe that these plates reflect the freedom of his very own calligraphy and are closely related to the calligraphic style that was a success among the spanish calligraphers: the Spanish Bastarda.

Indenture English Penman is based on research into original English and American indenture contracts from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, mostly with roundhand scripts, paragraph versals in Old English script and many, many flourishes. This font has a little of everything, with hundreds of glyphs: dozens of versals to each alphabet letter, some versals in Old English style, plus flourishes to use at beginnings of paragraphs or chapters, and many additional flourishes to create perfect ancient documents. To better use the resources of this font we suggest using the Glyphs resource in Illustrator and other software.

Since many years I live in Munich and read the daily newspaper Abendzeitung. One morning they had redesigned the paper, using Eric Gill's Joanna for the body copy and a tweaked version of Franklin Gothic for the headlines. Since both typefaces are my all-time favorites, I was very pleased. The old hand-lettered title lettering designed by in-house designer Ernst Friedrich Adler around 1947 or 48 was untouched as it always was. Adler had worked for the newspaper an incredible 47 years! Ernst Friedrich Adler celebrated his 100th birthday in the summer of 2007 looking very healthy. But someone had adapted his title lettering for use in the chapter headings, and I did not like the way that was done. Every morning I saw those letters and thought "one day I have to clean that up". About 15 years later I finally did it! Being at it, I designed the whole typeface and added a second fancy cut. And, what do you know, the people at the Abendzeitung called me up and said they liked what I did and started using it. So since that day in 2005 I can read my morning paper without having to wonder about the chapter headings. Well maybe one day they will do another redesign and maybe they will use another one of my fonts. Your editorial typeface designer, Gert

No doubt some of you will remember the part that Worthing in Sussex played in that story. Worthing is offered in three styles: regular, alternate and shaded. Ligaturess Serif is a modification of Textworthy Serif. This modification contains 79 uppercase ligatures. 59 lowercase ligatures. And 493 ligatures with diacritics marks. Ligatures are groups of letters joined together and usually compensate for the free space between individual letters. Ligaturess Serif, in addition to the basic ligatures - fi, fl... - also includes superstandard ones - CA, OO, ST, SS, VA... -. Text set in Ligaturess Serif has a unique and interesting look. Up until the late 1920s, it was a popular habit in American songwriting to use African Americans as the topic of compositions using denigrating themes, words and even exaggerated character illustrations on the covers of the published sheet music. One such example of what was considered "entertainment" for its time was a piece entitled "Little Black Me". While this now socially and morally unacceptable piece of forgettable tripe is collected by some only for the historical documentation of the times they reflected, one good "positive" came out of this negative chapter of our country's musical heritage: The beautiful floral ornamented letters in the song's title has yielded Fancy Free JNL. Originally hand-lettered on an arc, these spurred Roman letters have been re-drawn, and are offered in both the regular design and a companion version with the ornamentation removed for lettering that is less ornate.

The best way to radicalize your typographic expression is to use Blackletter! Gothic calligraphy had been used throughout all historical periods without much of the principal development the Latin typefaces underwent. However, since the invention of movable type, even now its slight variations over time can be seen. Blackletters are always used where emotions are required, be it spiritual literature, romantic novels, decadent poetry or extreme music. Dracula is a typeface dedicated to classical horror. I started to draw its letters along with my illustrations for Argo publishers in spring 2017. I needed a specific typeface for book cover and chapter titles to emphasize the mysterious atmosphere of the text. Sharp teeth and claws on a thin blackletter skeleton shall remind of the early vampirism in literature. Its slightly narrowed face enhances a thrilling feel of anguish and despair, whereas the darkest cut may work well on funeral announcements.

Sequel Sans is a new chapter in the book of neogrotesque typefaces. Its core idea and its name were conceived in collaboration with the max bill georges vantongerloo foundation. The main inspiration for its design were the sans-serif typefaces used by Max Bill, the larger-than-life Swiss architect, artist, and designer. Honoring these roots, I designed Sequel Sans to be a clean and adaptable font family that is built upon a comprehensive system of styles. 8 weights, each with a corresponding italic, and a matching set of Variable Fonts are available in 4 optical sizes. These range from standard (for text sizes) to Subhead to Headline to Display—larger optical sizes come with tighter spacing and a number of gently adjusted glyph shapes. Like the great neogrotesques found in mid-century Swiss Style designs, Sequel Sans is a vessel that you can fill with any kind of content. Poeta is an ornamental font for making patterns and text decoration. It contains floral and nature motifs. The symbols are versatile enough for simple decoration or festive holiday moods. Zapfino Arabic is designed by Nadine Chahine as the Arabic companion to Hermann Zapf’s iconic Zapfino typeface, with the approval of Prof. Zapf. The design is an evolution of Arabic calligraphic traditions that combines Naskh and Nastaaliq to form a backward slanted calligraphic style. The character proportions refer to Naskh traditions but the isolated and final forms bring with them an exaggerated swash-like movement that references the extravagant ascenders and descenders of Zapfino. The font contains a large number of contextual variants that work to create a smooth flow of pen movement, as well as 10 stylistic sets. The character set supports the Arabic language as well as basic Latin. Zapfino Arabic is meant to be used as a display typeface, for logos, greeting cards and short headlines. It could also work for short pieces of text, for poetry or chapter introductions, when used in a generous type size and with ample space around it. Its design is soft and elegant, and leaves a lot of room for typographic playfulness.
