In the advertising industry, I was often asked to supply the art directors with ideas for a san serif type design that was not the standard Helvetica or Univers. They wanted a fresh new approach, something with generous proportion, like Avant Garde perhaps, but not as uniform in proportions. A font that would lend itself well to wide and long columns of text with lots of leading. So, I rolled up my sleeves and designed a font that meet all their criteria. Contax is the new 'Univers' for the 21st century.

Architype Konstrukt is a collection of avant-garde typefaces deriving mainly from the work of artists/designers of the inter-war years, whose ideals have helped to shape the design philosophies of the modernist movement in Europe. Due to their experimental nature character sets may be limited. Architype Schwitters was developed from the phonetic experiments made by Kurt Schwitters with his 1927 universal alphabet, where he attempted to link sound and shape. He ‘played with’ using heavier, wider, rounded forms to convey the vowels, creating a unique visual speech texture.

Siberian is a geometric unicase sans-serif. It was inspired by Russian avant-garde typography and old Siberian runic scripts (Orkhon-Yenisey script). The idea was to create a typeface so simple, cold and beautiful as the snow in Siberia. And varied of course, as the snow too (according to a legend snow has more than 100 names in the north Siberian people’s language). So, every letter in this typeface has 7 stylistic alternates. And you can choose how cold your typography should be today. Siberian was initially designed for the I'm Siberian project (the tourist branding of Siberia).

The Harmonia Sans™ typeface is a fine blend of contemporary geometric sans serif lettershapes and classic calligraphic proportions. Jim Wasco, who was aided by George Ryan in the production of the typeface family, began the design of Harmonia Sans with a single goal in mind. "I wanted to create a simple and legible typeface by pulling the best aspects of classic geometric sans designs, such as Futura and ITC Avant Garde Gothic," Wasco explained. Their ‘universal’, ‘single alphabet’ theory limits the character sets. Architype Bill was developed from the few letterforms created by Max Bill for a 1949 exhibition poster. Avast, me hearties! Here be a serious pirate font, based loosely on several of Victor Hammer’s uncial typefaces, designed between 1925 and 1953, and liberally weathered and corroded for that authentic barnacle-encrusted look. The bullet character is suitable for marking where the treasure is buried, and the section mark is a Jolly Roger. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

British designer Bob Newman's Horatio family is a delightful look back into the modernists experiments of the 1920s. This geometric sans serif design was created in 1971, and was originally released by Letraset. We are please to offer the family in digital form, in light, medium, and bold weights. Many designers during the 1920s were interested in reforming the alphabet, and wanted to reconcile letterforms with the machine and manufacturing technology of the age. Herbert Bayer at the Bauhaus was one of many designers who developed a universal alphabet," creating letters using only the simplest of geometric forms. Similar experiments in 1920s-style revivals were also created during the 1970s, most notably Herb Lubalin's ITC Avant Garde Gothic."

Atmosfera is a classic Didona typeface, recognizable by its extreme vertical tension, great contrast between thin and thick sticks and its straight and fine linear serifs that is angularly related to the staff of the letter, giving them an excellent legibility and a very clear and elegant appearance. In the design of this version, we chose to eliminate some serifs to give it a more avant-garde and modern look while maintaining an elegant style. With its 890 glyphs, it is enriched with a complete set of OpenType Type features: swashes, ligatures, alternates, stylistics sets and small caps, even so in the characters used in Western languages.. Atmosfera is an elegant text typeface that offers a wide range of possibilities.

Circus Didot typeface presents a rework of a typical neoclassical serif type in a constructivist style. Analyzing the shapes of characters author placed basic geometric figures — triangles, rectangles, circles… above the contours of letters. Resulting constructions staying recognizable letters at the same time bore a resemblance to pictures of Russian avant-garde artists from 20th century. This discovery has brought an idea to design a typeface where the tendency of a modern serif type to rationalism and geometry is realized in maximum possible extent. The prototypes for the project were taken from the works of Didot, lettering experiments of Russian constructivists and art deco artworks. The technique of juggling with shapes and overall grotesque approach to the design explains the selection of the name for the font.

Manhattan was designed in 1970 for ITC by Tom Carnase, who also created Avant Garde Gothic. The distinguishing characteristic of this designer's work is found in the emphasis on the thick-thin constrast. In this case, Carnase approached the border of the impossible. The heavy vertical strokes stand opposite the finest of lines and the thick columns dominate the overall look. The basic forms are strictly constructed, as are those of Morris F. Benton's Broadway of 1925, to which many parallels can be found. Manhattan is best used for applications which will not be placed too far from the viewer, as at too great a distance the fine lines can no longer be seen. It should be used exclusively for headlines in medium point sizes.

Originally designed in 2012 by Ryoichi Tsunekawa, All Round Gothic is a font family inspired by classic sans serif fonts such as Avant Garde Gothic and Futura. The Buum typeface evolved from the explosive lettering originally designed as part of a house style for an interactive science centre for kids. On March 24, 2022, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine in order to celebrate the feat, mass heroism and resilience of citizens, shown in the defense of their cities during the repulsion of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the city was awarded the honorary title "Hero City of Ukraine"

Nami, the Japanese word for wave," is the latest collaboration between Adrian Frutiger and Linotype's Type Director, Akira Kobayashi. This typeface family is the most humanistic sans serif design ever to come from Adrian Frutiger, and it has an interesting twist: lapidar alternates that may be surfed through with the help of OpenType-savy applications. Adrian Frutiger began the design that would blossom into Nami during the 1980s. Although it would not be produced during the 20th century, it was quite forward thinking. The typeface included several seemingly avant garde alternates; these were "lapidary" versions of common letterforms. Revisiting the project in 2006, Akira Kobayashi reworked the concept into a working family of three typefaces.
