Today's digital font technology allowed the world-renowned typeface designer/calligrapher Hermann Zapf to finally realize a vision he first had more than fifty years ago: creating a typeface that could capture the freedom and liveliness of beautiful handwriting. These special Linotype fonts can be distinguished by the letter X" in their name. Zapfino Extra is an OpenType format font, which is available in two versions. Which version you purchase should depend on which software applications you use the most and what features they support! The Contextual version of Zapfino Extra Pro contains a treasure-trove of extra contextual features. When created in 2004, this was the most advanced OpenType font released to date. By purchasing this version, users of OpenType-supporting applications, such as Adobe InDesign, may access all of the features available in the entire Zapfino family through just two fonts, Zapfino Extra LT Pro (Contextual) and Zapfino Forte LT Pro! Unfortunately, most non-Adobe applications currently do not support the contextual features made possible by recent OpenType developments. Users of Quark XPress and Microsoft Office should instead purchase all of the non-contextual fonts of Zapfino Extra Pro family, in order to access all of the Zapfino Extra family's 1676 glyphs. The Zapfino Extra family's character set supports 48 western and central European languages. Use Zapfino Extra to produce unusual and graceful advertisements, packaging, and invitations. This luscious, loopy Lombardic face was inspired by an offering in the 1938 classic, Letters and Lettering by Paul Carlyle and Gus Oring. Suitable for formal or informal occasions. Both versions of this font contain the Unicode 1252 (Latin) and Unicode 1250 (Central European) character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

Brand X JNL is a retro-inspired Art Deco typeface with its name being derived from the generic label given to competitor's brands. Whenever a product wishes to extol its virtues without directly naming its competitors and thereby giving reverse publicity to them, "Brand X" is mentioned.

A 1922 piece of sheet music entitled “Japanese Sailor” had its title hand lettered in a Far Eastern motif. This design is now available as Sea of Japan JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

A set of rubber stamp letters, figures and punctuation used for marking electrical or communications equipment [and made in Japan] is the basis for this serif typeface. Kuroneko in Japanese means ‘ Black Cat’. I was working on a Japan itinerary for a friend and I told him about the luggage forwarding service by a company with a black cat in its logo. Wait: Black Cat? What’s that in Japanese? Cool name for a font! Kuroneko font will not forward your luggage, nor was it made in Japan. But it IS a very versatile font family - even if you’re more of a dog person.

Kitsune means ‘Fox’ in Japanese. It really has nothing to do with Japanese foxes, but I am going to Japan in a few weeks, so I figured a Japan-inspired name would be perfect. Kitsune Tail is a messy brush font with no real baseline. It is an all-caps font, but upper and lower case differ and can be mixed. It comes with a full set of alternates for the lower case glyphs and a really impressive language support! I hope this foxy font will bewitch you. Enjoy!

TA-kirigirisu is the most popular designed font in Japanized font. TA-kirigirisu is one of the representative works designed by Yasushi Saikusa who is famous as a typographer in Japan. TA-kirigisu is used in book covers, flyers, POP advertising, TV commercials, and Web designs everywhere in Japan. It looks superficially imbalanced, but then it also projects an image of attachment. Katsudon is a Japanese crumbed and deep fried pork cutlet, typically served on rice with egg drizzled over it. There is also a chicken variety. I have been to Japan numerous times (it is my favourite country) and each time I revelled in the great variety of foods being served in street stalls and hole-in-the-wall eateries. I especially love the grandma-and-grandpa eateries that are tucked away in alleys behind the major shopping streets. They never speak English and my Japanese is shaky (to say the least), but the food is always good and we always seem to understand each other. This year, I couldn’t travel to Japan, because of the Covid outbreak, but I can tell you that I miss Japan a lot! Katsudon is a crumbed and deep fried font. It comes with a splash of authenticity, a sprinkling of cheekiness and a generous dose of oomph. Oh, yeah, and double letter ligatures, plus a few alternates as well.

Each year whalers from Japan kill more than 1000 whales. Japan says that the killing of whales is a 'cherished Japanese tradition', and that it is taking 'scientific data'. A portion of the whale meat is canned and marketed as 'traditional food'. How sad is that? A huge whale being reduced to a chunk in a can… Canned Whale is a hand drawn, outline style font with a cartoonesque twist to it. It can be used in ads and posters, it can be filled in with color, or kept as an outline. Canned Whale comes with extensive language support.

The Magellan font family is a roman in the Swedish Grace tradition. And since the Swedish language has long words, Magellan is a bit narrower than most romans. Magellan was an honorable prize winner in the Morisawa (Japan) international typeface design competition 1993.

Vidro is a glass technique introduced by the Dutch in Japan in the 16th century. Vidro glassworks, such as decorations and children's toys, enrich the live of Japanese people. P22 Vidro is comprised of simple forms that express both irregularity and fluidity.

Tallahassee Chassis JNL was modeled from a toy alphabet rubber stamp set made in Japan and imported to the U.S. during the late 1950s and early 1960s. The lettering style somewhat resembled that found on the side of old railroad cars, buses or trolleys.
