ZarHand began as my "speedball" showcard lettering font, used when the boss brought in a pile of urgent work at the end of the day. We would get out our "4 o'clock brushes" hoping to finish at a reasonable hour.

Kwaliteit is the result of a love story. The love story between a font designer and an old embossing label machine. The big bold letters produced by such machines are wonderful to convey a big bold message (big bold messages are fun!), but sometimes you just can't walk around with one of those antique label machines… That's why this font can come in handy! Sugar Medley was originally inspired by piped icing writing on celebratory cakes. It lends itself to any project requiring a ‘controlled messy’, fun feel. Sign Designer JNL was inspired by a set of 1960s-era gold foil embossed self-adhesive letters.

I found her in a German market while searching for the perfect parsnip. She was smoking catnip cigarettes and squeezing kumquats to test their ripeness. She had hair like a camel and index fingers like a Viking.

Approach is a modern approximation to the early grotesques. An utilitarian low contrast font, a bit mechanic but plenty of character. One of its characteristic elements is a kind of ‘elbow pipe’ shape that is present in many letters like the tail of the a, f, j, t, R, Q or 1 among others. Besides, the synthetic punctuation and quotes give it a more contemporary appearance. Approach tries to feel fresh against all odds, being familiar but different. For more details see the PDF.

Alpha Midnight, reconstructed from an unnamed source by Dick Pape for Solotype, provided the pattern for this big, bold, unconventional stencil face, sure to grab your readers' attention. Both versions include the complete Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, as well as localization for Moldovan and Romanian.

Goldbarre is a finely engraved slab serif face in the spirit of ‘between the wars’ commercial confidence. It’s a solid and dependable face of distinction for use on certificates and posters which need to convey an emphatic yet refined message. The letterforms of Goldbarre combine finely hatched shading with and embossed, three-dimensional, quality. The utility of the family is further enhanced with Goldbarre No 2 - a solid shaded face, Goldebarre No 3 - an open embossed face, and Goldbarre No 4 - a basic black slab-serif face.

A Tarte Tatin is a French upside down apple pie. The story goes that one of the Tatin sisters (who ran Hôtel Tatin in Lamotte-Beuvron 169 km south of Paris), was baking a regular apple pie, but put the apples first and, realising her mistake, tried to rescue the dish by adding the pastry and sticking it in the oven. Tarte Tatin is a really nice all caps font. It was made with a Japanese brush pen on rough paper. Tarte Tatin comes with extensive language support and a set of alternates for the lower case letters.

Anniversary Seals is composed of a seal design reminiscent of the embossed foil seals used in commemorating company anniversaries. The font contains 100 consecutive characters from the first anniversary through the one-hundredth anniversary.

Pontif is a typeface based on the inscriptional lettering work of Luca Horfei, the Vatican scribe who designed the major inscriptions for Pope Sixtus V's Baroque-makeover of Rome in the sixteenth century. Garrett Boge modeled the design on a Horfei manuscript and on-site research in Rome in 1996. Pontif is part of the LetterPerfect Baroque Set.

The Olaus Magnus and Olaus Bandus alphabets are inspired by the letterforms cut in the pictures and wood-cuts of Olaus Magnus great book Historia de Gentibus Septentrionalibus. This great history of the Nordic Peoples was printed in Rome in 1555 in his own printing shop there. Olaus Magnus, Catholic priest and appointed archbishop by the Pope, never returned to the now Lutheran Sweden.

Echelon is based upon 1970s Eastern European ‘pipe-style’ typefaces. This style of Communist consumer typography came from what, at the time, seemed like a bizarre mirror universe: Existing alongside the West, similar-but-different, essentially unknowable. Even though the letterforms had the same historical origins as their Western equivalents, they also had their own bizarre fashionable/unfashionable aesthetic. The parallels between the surveillance practices of the Soviet Union and those of today’s Western governments informed the naming of this typeface. Echelon is the codename for a massive international surveillance system that collects and processes data from communications satellites. It can eavesdrop on telecoms and computer systems, it can track bank accounts. It can record and store information on millions of individuals.

Made in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland), hyperpolar is born while the designer (Bisou) watches "Godard mon amour", a biopic about Jean-Luc Godard's depression in 1967-68. A parade of murder mystery books is staged at the middle of the movie and at exactly 56 minutes and 47 seconds, the book "Confrontation" strikes Bisou's eye. It is the first inspiration for this awsome retro font. Hyperpolar is thought from ground up to give a strong impact. It’s retro 50’s crime stories style makes it best suitable book covers. I love learning new words. I stumbled upon the term Gingerline after I named an older font Gamboge. Like Gamboge, Gingerline is a name for a shade of orange - the color of ripe kumquats to be precise. Didn’t know that! Gingerline font is a handmade calligraphy font; nice and even, thick and thin and quite elegant if I may say so. Comes with an abundance of diacritics as well.
