XAabced evolved gradually as I reworked earlier attempts to do a text face. It is quite condensed, but with fairly long ascenders and descenders. Blending it with JasperSqueeze resulted in JabcdHy, which I prefer to either parent.

Sultan is a revival and expansion of a 1954 Matrin Kausche typeface called Mosaik. This design highlights the unmistakable Arabic/Moorish calligraphy influence on Celtic lettering, by way of the highly active Andalusian culture from the ninth century until the crusades in the early eleventh century. Although Celtic lettering evolved on its own and prompted different calligraphic styles after the crusades, elements of the Arabic influence survived with it, its appeal remaining evident to this very day. For instance, this kind of lettering is very similar to the one Louis Tiffany used to make the most recognizable athletic insignia in North America - the New York Yankees logo, which is now over 110 years old, and has inspired hundreds of spin-offs in many athletic and non-athletic fields all over the world. The original character set made by Kausche was quite minimal, consisting of only numerals and uppercase letters along with a few alternates. But in this digital version the set has been considerably expanded into uppercase, lowercase, numerals, punctuation, a complete set of accented characters, and more than 15 alternate letters built into the font. Sultan is a great font choice particularly for design contexts of fantasy, middle ages legend, mystical and new age content, pirate literature, and Irish history. But it is also an excellent all-purpose display and poster font in general.

Raw was designed in 2006 for Shelter, the UK homeless charity. It was originally called “Cathy”, after the film “Cathy Come Home”, which was instrumental in inspiring the founding of the charity. Now reworked with more “inkiness”, it is released as part of the Device range.

In the 1960 edition of Samuel Welo’s “Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers” is an example of poster lettering with the accompanying blurb “call this Chrysler”. This casual brushstroke design was slightly modified and then reworked into what is now Show Poster JNL and is now available in both regular and oblique versions.

ITC Musica is a revival of a design in the type library of Master Eagle/Photo-Lettering and released in the ITC library. For this reworking of the typeface, the thin strokes were made thicker and the weights were redrawn, reproportioned and reshaped to create a more balanced design for the ITC Musica.

Based on the 1932 typeface Newport, designed by Willard T. Sniffin for ATF, this Art Deco standard packs a lot into multi-line heads and subheads due to its very short descenders, cleverly accomplished by “fudging the baseline” on the g, p, q, and y. All versions of this font include the Unicode 1250 Central European character set in addition to the standard Unicode 1252 Latin set.

Mark Jamra based the design for Jamille on the forms of the 18th century Modern Face fonts of Didot and Bodoni, but was also influenced by the work of artists like Adrian Frutiger, who reworked such fonts to adapt to the demands of modern technology. The capitals can be used as initials or combined with the lower case letters. Fashion Engraved was produced when Meeks reworked Fashion Compressed, resulting in a beautiful, engraved typeface.

Adonis New is a considerate update of the Adonis serif. This dense serif with smooth lines has new, bolder styles, and it supports Greek now. P22 Albemarle is a smooth reworking of the popular rough textured Roanoke font. The texture change gives this style a much more elegant effect, yet retains its skilled capturing of historical handwriting. In 1931, Morris Fuller Benton created the Stymie typeface for the American Type Founders (ATF). Stymie is a reworking of a slab serif type that was popular in Europe at that time, Memphis. For the past one hundred fifty years, slab serif types (sometimes called Egyptian or Egyptienne-style faces) have been a popular choice for headline text in newspapers, magazines, and advertising.

German designer Erbar drew the Candida typeface for the Ludwig & Mayer foundry shortly before his death in 1935. The typeface was released posthumously in 1936. An italic designed by Walter Höhnisch was published the following year and a reworked version was produced in 1945. Bold weights followed in 1951. Thanks to its clarity and readability in small sizes, the Candida family remained popular in the digital age.

Released by the Compugraphic Corporation in 1979, the Garth Graphic font family is based on a design by John Matt from the 1960's, reworked by Renee LeWinter and Constance Blanchard. Garth Graphic was named after Bill Garth, a founder of Compugraphic. A fairly strong old style face suitable for text setting; the heavier weights and condensed forms are most used for display work.

Anne's Hand is a custom handwriting font of Anne Hubbard, who tragically lost her battle with anorexia nervosa this past January. Anne loved to write, so her brother Richard designed a custom font of her handwriting as a tribute to her memory.
