Savoye was created by Alan Meeks in 1992. The spirit of the Jugendstil lies behind the design of this font. Graceful upright letters combine to create delicate, flowing word figures. The light stroke contrast and slant to the right emphasize the liveliness of Savoye. Generous capitals contrast with small, demure lower case letters whose distinguishing characteristic is their high ascenders. This contrasts beautifully with the relatively reserved descenders. In 1905 Berthold released an engraved blackletter font called Prinzess Kupferstichschrift. Based on an old printed remnant, I revived this beautiful open-face fraktur and enriched it with several OpenType features. As usual in my blackletter fonts, the round ‘s’ lies on the number sign key, and a traditional number sign can be accessed via the Discretionary Ligature feature and typing 'N-r-period'. In this font you have also the possibility to turn I, V, X, L, C, D, and M into Roman numerals by activating the Stylistic Alternates feature. And last but not least, various useful ligatures polish up this font.

Gabor Kothay was born July 19th, 1962. He works as a graphic designer and teaches second-form art students. Typeface design was a hobby for many years but it has become an everyday routine with Fontmunkasok and Fontana Type Foundry. He lives with his wife and two daughters in a suburb of Szeged, a sunny southern Hungary town that lies on the banks of the Tisza river.

Linotype Sjablony is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. Designed by Dutch artist Mark van Wageningen, the typeface with its interrupted strokes has the characteristics of the stencils seen on crates and barrels. The difference lies in the raw contours of this font, which make the characters look as though they were slowly eroded away by water and wind. Inspired by Rudolf Engelhardt's Journal-Kursiv, released by Ludwig Wagner, Leipzig, in 1913, Kursivfraktur was freshly drawn and redesigned, and comes as one of those rare beautiful italic blackletter fonts. This font contains the letter long s which can be reached in two ways. Either you use the OT feature historical forms, or you type the integral sign [ ∫ ] on your keyboard. There are two graphic elements implemented, a corner element and a straight element for framing. A couple of years ago, I walked the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail in Japan. At the start of the walk, I stayed in a nice guesthouse in Tanabe city, which lies in Wakayama prefecture. I wouldn’t mention all of this, if it didn’t have something to do with the font name: Wakayama prefecture is THE mandarin orange (Mikan) growing area of Japan and the owner of the guesthouse had just picked a bagful of mikan, which he shared with me. So, I had to think of that when I made this font. Mikan is a nice, rounded family of fonts. Both styles come with alternative a’s (and accented a’s), which some people prefer for Children’s books.

According to Hellmut G. Bomm "Nautilus was based on a handwritten type used for the text Li. Das Helle, Klare from the I Ging. "The intention was to create a clear, highly legible typeface. While the even strokes of sans serif types eventually tire the eyes in long texts, the marked stroke contrast of Nautilus lends the type its legibility. The characters were drawn with a broad tipped pen, and like an antiqua type, the forms of Nautilus display a variety of elements. The name African Gold is associated with Johannesburg, the "City of Gold"; (the Zulu name for Johannesburg is eGoli). The font was so named for two reasons: the intricate African patterns within the characters of the font suggest the shafts and tunnels of a gold mine, and, as with a gold mine, the richness lies within. Somewhat extravagant and yet quite useful? Yes, absolutely. Meet Salted family: two awesome styles and a way cool picture font. Deliberately free-spirited, Salted – the Regular, yet regular is not quite an appropriate adjective for it – brings alternates and also discretionary ligatures that completely transform the font mood, adding unexpected touches of cursive script here and there and thus creating sort of a wild feel. Anadolu was inspired by the distinct style of sign lettering in rural Turkey, and refined based on sign lettering in Hungary. Shown here are samples in Turkish and Hungarian, as well as Finnish and Estonian, two other languages in the Finno-Ugric language group with Hungarian. The slight curve at the tops of ascenders and bottoms of descenders is inspired by the linguistic process of "vowel harmony" in Turkish and Hungarian. Anadolu is the Turkish name for Anatolia, the peninsula where Turkey lies. The name recalls another sans-serif typeface named for its country of origin. The tittle on the i is reimagined as a diacritic, and the dotless ı is reimagined as the basic, prototypical i. Too many typefaces treat diacritics as afterthoughts. Since diacritics are integral to the languages that inspired Anadolu, they were designed as core components of the typeface.

A Trollkatt in Norwegian myth, is the cat associated with witches. The last few days a stray ginger cat seems to have adopted us - she comes into the house, lies down on the carpet and loves the cat food we bought her. We have posted some ‘found a cat’ messages online and hung op some flyers - just in case someone is missing a cat. Because of the stray, I decided that I should name this font something cattish, so Trollkatt is what popped up. The font is quite nice; I made it with my Chinese ink and a brush, from which I cut most of the hairs. This font won’t catch mice, but it will put some magic into your designs! And the stray cat… well, if she isn’t chipped and no one comes to fetch her, we will keep her. #happyending

Un Jour Merveilleux means "a Wonderful Day" in French. This font is a Modern Calligraphy script with stylistic alternates for all the lowercase letters and numbers for a natural flow and rhythm. Smaller and larger alternates are set to switch between each other within the Contextual Alternates OpenType rule, so make sure to enable this feature while setting text with this font. This four-piece family is the DIN design, but not as you know it. The famously, crisp, clean and precise typeface has been given a textured update that's reminiscent of rusted metal, or rubber stamps. Underneath this lies the same sturdy, geometric shapes that have allowed DIN to stand the test of time, but with a new sense of tangibility. “This kind of treatment is more about creating a feeling or a mood that goes beyond the communication of the words themselves,” explains Monotype Studio director Tom Rickner. “I think it expands the repertoire of what DIN Next can express.” Designed for display, these four typefaces – DIN Next Rust, DIN Next Shadow, DIN Next Slab Rust and DIN Next Stencil Rust – show a new side of DIN Next's personality, as if the surface of each letterform has been gradually worn away over the years.

There's an appealing quirkiness about Amrys, which offers a confidently unusual alternative to more conventional designs. Its charm lies in its tapering tips, flexing stems, and unexpected notches, which combine to suggest something of the chiseller's tool at work. As a modulated serif, its letter shapes live between serif and sans serif, lending the design a sense of pleasing irregularity – something that's really highlighted at larger sizes. However this is also a typeface that works for text, injecting rhythm and texture into reading. “It's distinctive, idiosyncratic, and weird,” says its designer, Ben Jones. He started designing Amrys while studying an MA at Reading University, creating it in response to a brief for a magazine typeface. Amrys features an extensive and impressive character set. In addition to Latin, Amrys covers several scripts including Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic and Armenian. The family consists of 8 weights, from Light to Black, with matching italics.

Meet Very Frank, a font that won’t feed you any lines or tell you any lies. Straight and tall and lacking in all but the subtlest softening details (look at the leg on that uppercase K, though…). Typeface Laborat™, designed by Kristína Jandová, is a Grotesk typeface that combines the geometry of a circle and a square. The visual message of geometry is applied to stylistic sets and modified by special characters, including abstract forms or symbols, that turn the typeface into a visual “graphic” language. The basic character of the typeface lies in the default set based on the circle-like shapes of letters. The stylistic sets 01 to 03 are characterized by different geometrical modifications of the growing character and the idea “from circle to square” applied on the letters a, f, g, l, r, t, u, y. By using these different alterations of consistent letterforms, it offers a playful space for everyone. The first inspiration of the typeface origins in Paul Renner’s Futura sketches, that were a celebration of geometrical playfulness of modernism meeting constructivism. It is modified into a new contemporary “wave” of typography as a graphical method. Laborat comes in six weights, from Hairline to Heavy.

Ponderosa font is a joint work of the typeface designers K.B. Chansler, C. Crossgrove and C. Twombly, who also created Rosewood, Zebrawood and Pepperwood together. As the name suggests, it is so-called wood type. The origins of this kind of typeface can be found in the early 19th century. Called Italian or Italienne, these typefaces quickly became very popular. They are distinguished by square serifs whose width is larger than the stroke width of the characters. When the letters are set together, the heavy serifs build dark horizontal bands. The distinguishing characteristic of Ponderosa lies in its extremely fine figures between heavy serifs. The designers approached the boundaries of the impossible with this contrast. The typeface is reminiscent of the Wild West with its shootouts and heroes as well as of the 1970s with their platform shoes and wild hair-dos. When used carefully in headlines, Ponderosa font will surely attract attention.
