This font set is based on the handwriting styles of quintessential American artist Edward Hopper and his wife, Josephine Nivison Hopper, and was produced in conjunction with the Whitney Museum of American Art. In 1932, Xanti Schawinsky (1904?1979) designed an alphabet that combines two styles: a neo-classic stroke contrast paired with characteristics of stencil lettering. This mix is a child of its time and seems to reflect the Swiss and Italian biography of Schawinski. Luca Pellegrini took on the modern look and re-drew the letterforms, interrupted by subtle spaces where thick and thin strokes meet. Although Schawinsky had already designed a complete alphabet and figures in the early 1930s, Pellegrini took the character set to another level, adding currency signs, mathematical symbols and all kinds of punctuation ? anything needed to set more than just headlines. Xants is a blend of Swiss elegance and exclusiveness with Italian charm and imperfection, a combination that never gets old.

Eckhardt Signwork JNL was inspired by visual images collected by two great nostalgia sites: www.forgotten-ny.com and www.norelevance.com. The vintage signage photographed and saved for posterity on both sites reflect an age when hand-crafted work was the rule, rather than the exception [as is today]. Although somewhat limited in scope, this font can best be used for retro or nostalgic embellishments in ads or design work. There's also a generous amount of blank panels to insert your own copy for special projects. As with previous typefaces in this series, the font is named in honor of the late Al Eckhardt, owner of Allied Signs in Miami, Florida - a talented sign man and Jeff Levine's good friend for 18 years.

A hand lettered emulation of a Roman stencil type face on the cover of the folio for the Stenso School Set was the basis for Eutaw Stencil JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. The Stenso School Set (circa 1940-41) was comprised of three stencils – two lettering guides and a map of the [then] 48 United States. Developed and patented by Baltimore school teacher Ruth Libauer Hormats, her stencils were the first to offer a system for accurate letter spacing and ease of use. “Eutaw” (as part of the font’s name) is taken from Eutaw Place, the street where Ruth and her husband lived at the time of Stenso’s inception. To the Cherokee, the name means “Creek Indian”.

A 1929 German travel poster espoused the benefits of using a sleeping car with the caption “Wer Schlafwagen reist spart Zeit und Geld” (which translates to “Whoever travels in a sleeping car saves time and money”). Pictured on the poster is a passing train with the name "Mitropa" lettered on the side of a railway car in a bold, stylized font with thin slab serifs. "Mitropa" was an acronym of “Mitteleuropa” (German for Central Europe), and was used by a catering company than ran the sleeping and dining cars of numerous German railways for a good portion of the 20th Century. The lettering was modified and redrawn as Dining Car JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

A 1916 book entitled “Lettering” by Thomas Woods Stevens features a number of hand lettered alphabets; some plain, others unique. One of the more novel examples was designed by Harry Lawrence Gage and featured letters and numbers with a crude, wavy style described in the book as “adapted to wood block and linoleum cutting”. To keep the design as close to the original as possible, the image from the book page was auto-traced, with each character given just enough of a clean-up as to retain its own quirkiness while smoothing out any jagged lines and fixing some curves. From there, other necessary characters were created for the digital font, and the end result is Tenement JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Lotus is a traditional-style Arabic text face derived from foundry types cut earlier in the 20th Century, based on the calligraphic models in the Ottoman Naskh style (the traditional style of Arabic script for use in printing). The conversion of the PostScript versions of these fonts to OpenType format has taken full advantage of the latest digital technology, allowing accurate positioning of diacriticals and kerning refinements. Pomarosa is a typographic family that consists of capital roman letters and twisted lower case letters set randomly. Each one of them is characterized by its multiple calibers and widths. Pomarosa was planned to accompany graphic works done with different techniques and materials such as hand made collages. The narrowness of its glyphs involve its audience with abstract imprecision. Its spirit was born between fabric snippets intervened with pencil and painting. Its three members work in group and also in words or phrases with a non-finished look. Regular Pomarosa and Standard Pomarosa have 260 glyphs each. Both of them simulate to have been done by a right-handed person that works with its left hand. Teip, designed by Alex Jacque in 2014, is a layerable geometric typeface system. Teip developed as a typographic exploration of overlapping tape where a over/under, foreground/background interplay would be a stylistic motif throughout. For the most part, the uppercase characters have a vertical stress in the foreground, while lowercase have the horizontal stressed in the foreground. Because this is a unicase typeface, upper and lower case glyphs can be mixed for a more random feel in the shape of individual words and the flow of sentences. In Teip, glyph widths and kerning are the same across all styles and weights. This opens up the ability to easily layer one style on top of another to create a large number of color and stylistic combinations.
