Reno Rough is a distressed display typeface family with an eroded rustic look, yet a distinct geometric spirit. It is an all caps font family with variations in the roughness in upper and corresponding lower case glyphs to eliminate identical distress pattern in repeated adjacent letters. Reno Rough works well for smaller as well as larger point sizes, but is especially suited for headlines, titles, headers, posters, packaging and branding.

I haven’t been sleeping well lately: I wake up every night around 5 and I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the Bogeyman! Wait… Bogeyman? Excellent name for a new font! Bogeyman is a handmade display font. It comes in two varieties: regular and eroded, both with their Italics. Use it for your posters, book covers and packaging, but you’ll have to promise not to scare your kids with it!

Rough Patch is a quirky, handmade display font with a serious amount of erosion. Comes with all the diacritics you need and a band aid to boot!

I was immediately fascinated with the font, Breitfette Unziale, used for Erol Büyükburç's Hop Dedik album cover when I discovered this album. I designed a completely brand new typeface that is inspired by it called Erol Unziale but I also wanted to digitize and revive this typeface since I couldn’t find a digital version of it anywhere online. I took some liberties with the original font and customized it to my liking. Here is my interpretation of Walter Haettenschweiler's font through digitization.

Homeward Bound is a fat, grungy slab serif font - all handmade and inspired by a well known 1934 font. Together with sidekick Homeward Bound II, this baby will lighten up your day, bring you your newspaper and do your dishes to boot. Well, that may not be an accurate description of Homeward Bound’s abilities, but I am sure it will make your work stand out, giving it that ‘handmade eroded vintage’ look.

Appelstroop literally means ‘Apple Syrup’ in Dutch, but it is also know as Apple Butter; a slightly sweet & sour goo that you can use to sweeten things, or, as we do in Holland, spread it on a sandwich. It’s delicious, give it a try! Appelstroop font is a chunky, slightly eroded affair. It is mostly all caps, with a few lower case glyphs thrown in for good measure. Use this sticky font for your product packaging, toys and kids book covers!

Transit Display is simply two fonts: Regular & Italic. It is an all uppercase based font that takes the grungy look that you love one step further by offering you that do it yourself eroded stamp look with a modern flair. Transit Display will work with any of your stylized design needs! Transit Display also has a larger character set for multilingual support. For a customized look to your works, switch between uppercase and lowercase for a change of grunge to the letters.

Natalia font, is an original type by Manuel Lage, inspired by the Doric column bases. Its heavy appearance is lightened by the erosion of the serif pieces. It is a typeface with a rigid and compact stroke.

Brandon Printed is based on the famous Brandon Grotesque typeface. It has an eroded, printed look with variations of every letter by using different styles. With several different styles like a shadowed version, an inline version and a double printed version you can create a lot of lovely combinations. The Brandon Printed package also contains a set with 95 Extras like arrows, catchwords, stars, emblems numbers & lines. Brandon Printed has a high level of detail, so it may process more slowly in some applications.

I don’t think I’m a capricious person, but right now, due to the enormous amount of renovation work on our home, I do get bad moods quite often! Capricious is a hand painted all-caps font: I used my favourite Chinese ink, a brush and very rough paper to get the desired ‘eroded’ effect. It is quite a heavy display font, so I wouldn’t really set a text in it, but it works really well for headlines, catching titles and products that need some pepper!

The 1960 British film “Beat Girl” (released in the U.S. as “Wild for Kicks”) was a typical [for its time] story of a teenage girl looking to have some fun by hanging out with SoHo beatniks and going against parental authority. One of the posters for the film features the title in a condensed slab serif stencil form, with eroded edges. The basic letter forms were smoothed out and cleaned up resulting in Jazz Beat Stencil JNL, which is available as in both regular and oblique versions.

Paulette is a script typeface, the capital letters are completely unpublished, some of them have a smile-similar ornament (A,F,O,H,Q,B,C,P,G), whereas minuscule letters are inspired to Edwardian font script. The font is very versatile and is very suitable for typographic compositions with large letters and for medium and small ones. It includes a complete series of internationals letters, 342 glyphs and 6 new ligatures. Paulette is an elegant letter and it's available in two versions, regular and eroded.

This typeface is inspired by the angular shapes of runes; the early writing of Northern European peoples. The letters have been given an eroded finish, as though they were carefully carved a thousand years ago, and weathered over time. This font includes at least two versions of every letter one simple, one more ornate, with all alternate characters for other European languages. The Alternates Font includes additional variations of some characters as well as Ligatures, astrological and elemental symbols. More Nordic symbols are available in the Valknut font.

The term starboard derives from the Old English steorbord, meaning the side on which the ship is steered. Before the steering wheel, boats were steered by an oar at the stern of the ship. Since most sailors were right handed, this is where you would find your steering oar! Starboard font is a rough, handmade, brushy kinda font. It was, of coarse, made with my favourite cheep brush and Chinese ink - resulting in a slightly eroded looking font. Starboard comes with all the trimmings, including double letter ligatures for the lower case.

My kids have a tin box filled with crayon and pencil leftovers: bits and pieces that have fallen or broken off, but are still good enough to use. For me it is a treasure trove, as I often find a nice bit of crayon to use for a new font. In this case, I created Leftover Crayon. Leftover Crayon is a fat, crumbling and seriously eroded crayon font. Completely hand made, completely legible and full of character. Use it for your bedtime stories, product packaging and invitations. Comes filled to the brim with diacritics.

The Wild Bunch, also known as the Doolin–Dalton Gang, was a gang of outlaws that terrorized Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma Territory during the 1890s. They robbed banks, killed lawmen and held up trains. Of course its members were hunted down and 'wanted' posters, with that typical 'Wild West' font, appeared all over. Wild Bunch is a 'wanted poster' type font. It is an all caps font, but upper and lower case differ slightly. A set of alternate, non-eroded, glyphs for the lower case (including alternate numbers) completes this font.

The Hondo Grunge fonts are a collection of ultrabold eroded slab serif typefaces with a dynamic look and extended functionality. Accented with decorative and functional inktraps and complete with Slant and Backslant styles, this heavyweight has a high performance hardcore edge to it. Ideal for titling, poster work, logos, and small bits of copy. For the Opentype savvy, the Opentype version contains a complete alternate set of base characters, which by enabling contextual alternates option will force the typeface to continually alternate between the original & alternate character sets for a more spontaneous look.

A cast iron plaque from Bristol Temple Meads Station serves as inspiration for this antique font. The plaque commemorates the design contribution of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who in March 1833 at only 27 was appointed chief engineer of the Great Western Railway, the line that links London to Bristol. This helped establish Brunel as one of the world’s leading engineers. Impressive achievements along the route include viaducts at Hanwell and Chippenham, Maidenhead Bridge, Box Tunnel and Bristol Temple Meads Station. Ironbridge evokes industrial heritage, gothic spookiness or eroded heavy metal.

Stupid Meeting is an all caps display sans that didn't quite get its full 8 hours of sleep. A lot of attitude went into the design process and it shows throughout the entire character set. From a distance it looks fairly pedestrian but the closer you get, the rougher it gets around the edges. It's very simple, yet extremely playful. This family is available in 3 different styles. Use Stupid Meeting for a cartoon, product packaging, or a logo. Try the Eroded version for menu lettering or a band poster. Caps only Fonts.

I used to be a frequent flyer; as a tour guide I often had 6 to 10 international flights per year. At the time I didn’t even think about the consequences of flying, as I loved my job and the job was all about travel. Now, with the planet in deplorable state, I try to keep flying to an utter minimum. I guess you call it ’shame of flying’… Frequent Flyer font is a nice, eroded, all caps font. It comes with multilingual support, so you may come across it during your travels.

Compagnon is a friend, a partner. This handmade display font will come in super handy when you are working on that book cover, or the packaging of a product. It will shine on posters and websites and it will keep you warm at night. I guess that last bit is an exaggeration… Compagnon comes in three distinct styles: a ‘regular’ version, which is a bit rough around the edges, a ‘dirty’ version, with a juicy eroded look and a polka dot version. All three have their accompanying italics.

P22 Stanyan Autumn is a set of three fonts based upon a casual hand lettering text created for the deluxe 1969 edition of "...and autumn came" by Rod McKuen.

Gobsmacked is a rather new English word. It has been around since 1959 and was used mostly around Liverpool at that time. The word means: ’astounded’, ‘flabbergasted’ (another nice word!) or ‘speechless’. Gob could be of French or Scottish Gaelic origin and means ‘mouth’. Gobsmacked font was created using a brush and black gouache. The result is a very eroded, very legible and quite unique brush font. I have created alternates for the lower case letters, plus two double letter ligatures (oo and ss). Use it for any design that needs a little brushwork; I am sure the result will leave you gobsmacked!

For some reason I had Paul Simon’s song ‘You Can Call Me All’ in my head when I was busy working on this font, so I just had to call it Bonedigger. Bonedigger does not dig bones, but it does have ‘heavy bones’, as it is quite big. Bonedigger is seriously eroded and would look great on book covers and product packaging. It comes in a lovely regular and italic style and a seriously twisted inline style (with, of course, its own italic). As the song goes: With a knick-knack paddywhack, give the dog a bone, this old font came rolling home.

Buckthorn is a genus of about 110 species of shrubs and small trees, native to North America and Asia. Its uses are varied: it is used for dye, oil, printing ink and oil. That concludes the botany class for today, on with Buckthorn ‘The Font’. Buckthorn is a handmade typeface with a lot of character. It is severely eroded, giving your designs an authentic look. It comes in 4 styles, including a ‘hollow’ style, plus a dingbat font with very nifty shapes. Buckthorn is quite a pleasing font and comes with a rich harvest of diacritics.

Terpentijn is Dutch for Turpentine. If you say it out loud, it actually sounds quite similar! Here you thought you were just buying a font, but you get to learn some Dutch too! Terpentijn is a handmade typeface with a serious twist. It is very uneven, very unusual, and, if I may say so myself, very adorable. Terpentijn has that ‘eroded’ look, which will make your designs stand out. It comes in a regular and an inline version, plus a handy shapes pack, which will add that extra wow to your work. Besides Dutch, terpentijn speaks a lot of languages!

Linotype Sjablony is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. Designed by Dutch artist Mark van Wageningen, the typeface with its interrupted strokes has the characteristics of the stencils seen on crates and barrels. The difference lies in the raw contours of this font, which make the characters look as though they were slowly eroded away by water and wind. Linotype Sjablony is composed exclusively of heavy capital letters and is particular suitable for initials and headlines with point sizes of 18 and larger.

It could be you’ve never heard of Bergie Seltzer - and neither had I. Basically, Bergie Seltzer is the fizzing sound an iceberg makes when it melts. We are having a bit of a heat wave right now, so I needed to give this font a ‘cool’ name! Bergie Seltzer font is a cool, all caps display font. It has a slightly eroded look (like a melting iceberg if you will) and a laid back attitude. Use it for your summer magazines, your ultra-cool websites and your bottles of fizzy drink! Just don’t melt the polar cap!

Font naming is not all that difficult. Take Printout for example. I was busy working on this font, when my niece came over with a poem she needed to have printed. One of her classmates had the same request (they’re writing poems for our national Remembrance Day). As I was printing out these poems, I thought the name Printout would be perfect for the font I was working on. See? It’s not rocket science! Printout is a totally awesome, completely handmade font. I used an almost dried out Japanese brush pen to get the eroded effect. Maybe I should name my next font ‘Dried Out Brush Pen’? I’ll let you know.

The Vtg Stencil DIN fonts were developed to made the most common stencil type of Germany available in digital type. Of course there are several, slightly different stencil designs from different manufactures in circulation, but all share the typical design of DIN type. » pdf specimen « Vtg Stencil DIN comes in many styles – Regular, Alt, Fabric, Halftone and Rough. The Alt style features older designs of letter “a” and figures “6” and “9”. Fabric, Halftone and Rough styles have an eroded, weathered look using up to four glyph variations of each letter. For an random effect an glyph rotator is programmed into the fonts opentype-code and applied by typing in opentype-savvy application.

I remember a tea ceremony I attended in Fukuoka, Japan. The teahouse was set in a small, but beautiful garden and the whole idea of the ceremony was to appreciate the view from the porch. I thought the tea was quite bitter, but the view was unsurpassed. From time to time these memories pop up and I have to use them - that is why I named this font Teacup. Teacup is a slightly eroded all caps font, made entirely by hand with a Japanese marker pen and some high quality textured paper. It comes in a romantic open style and a more solid closed style. Teacup is filled to the brim with diacritics.

Linotype Schwennel is part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. This prize-winning font was designed by the German artist Svenja Voss. The figures seem to have been somehow eroded, parts of some strokes are completely missing, contours seem washed away. The eye works to put the pieces together to form a meaningful series of figures. The second weight, lila+negro, completes the letter fragments of the lila weight. Missing pieces are filled in and contours completed, making the resulting text stronger and a bit more legible. Linotype Schnwennel is intended exclusively for headlines in larger point sizes.

Road Stencil is a font based on painted street markings. The letters are stretched roughly six times their normal height so that when viewed from an angle, the text is seen as proportional. If you're looking to Photoshop a street scene, this is your font. This is an all caps font, but the letters were copied to lower-case for convenience. In these forms, I've preferred to use horizontal and diagonal dividers instead of verticals which can weaken the fonts readability. This font embodies a pleasant aesthetic while maintaining a coherent and believable feel. Check out the 'Rough' version of this font, which has more of a 'drawn on asphalt' look. The rough version's lower case letters have eroded alternates.

Paper Tiger is a splendid display font package by Fenotype. It’s a Victorian Script accompanied by a condensed flared serif in two weights and a chunky sans serif. Together they make a powerful set for creating logotypes, posters, packaging design, headlines or any display use online or offline. Paper Tiger fonts are available as normal clean versions, as well as “Print” versions that have rugged outlines and eroded texture inside. Grungy Old Typewriter is based on two typed letters, each on two pages and dated 1901. The results are eroded, rough, irregular and grungy. The final results are a vintage look. As a designer, I wanted as much flexibility as possible, so there are six versions that are designed to work together. Additionally, I decided to keep the grunge and irregularities within the shape and not include surrounding typewriter or paper marks. I leave it to the design to add those elements as desired. One note, the letter spacing is much tighter than an old typewriter. I felt that readability for modern readers suffered from the added space. Of course, you can get that same look by increasing the letter spacing in your favorite design program.

Dottingham is a vintage style display font with a look that will take you back to the Victorian era. Inspiration for this 2 member family came from signage, publications, and old advertisements that appeared not only in Europe, but North America as well during the 19th century. Exaggerated serifs, wispy strokes, and high contrast dominate the character set. For those looking for a bit more authenticity, a distressed version is available for a straight-out-of-the-box eroded look. This unique styling makes it a strong choice when attention is paramount to your project. Dottingham is equipped with Basic Latin, Extended Latin/diacritics, kerning, ligatures, fractions, and some alternates. Use it for a Pub logo, book cover, or restaurant menu.

This font was patterned after a few characters on a genuine old 1913 small portable typewriter. It looks like those early typescripts, rough, irregular and eroded, suggestive of mythical famous authors, such as Hemingway, as well as “serie noire” movies or anonymous state employee working in a gloomy Kafkaesque office. It is a complete alphabetic full font. It can be used as web-site titles, poster design, or book editing. It may be preferable, if possible, when printing, to choose a pale color a little rather than condensed - dark grey instead of heavy black, for example - to give the best appearance and to benefit from the full details. The old typewriter character size is 11 to 12 points, but this font easily supports enlargement.

Rotham Industrial. Stylised lettering for industrial flavoured projects. Imagine, if you will letters shaped from metal tube, or perhaps from a solid rod, or perhaps made from brass handrails?
