Quite unusual, Musenberg started his Raldo design with the italic. However, he managed to preserve the temperament and vividness of the italic in the roman without questioning the stability of the individual characters. Raldo is a modern Sans Serif family already quite popular in Germany. The German IGEPA group chose Raldo as corporate typeface family. Now, Marc Musenberg redesigned and extended his Raldo typeface family. The new Raldo RE Pro comprises 10 styles, 5 roman and 5 corresponding italics. All fonts now include the complete Latin character set plus fractions, different sets of figures and fractions as well as small caps and small caps figures for Raldo RE Pro Text, Regular, Semibold and Bold. Raldo RE Pro has been chosen to be part of the URW++ SelecType.

Since better (larger) text samples were available for Thomas Versalien, this font is closer to it's original.

No mystery here: this typeface is based on the not-often-seen Cooper Black Swash Italic, designed by Oswald Bruce Cooper. Swash variants are the norm with this font, but enabling Contextual Alternates will prevent collisions between the swash “tails” and letters with descenders. Both versions of this font contain the Unicode 1252 (Latin) and Unicode 1250 (Central European) character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

The Vtg Stencil fonts from astype are based on real world stencils from several countries. The Italian stencils that I chose as a model for this font are roughly based on classic French stencil letters. Please compare the figures (numbers) with their French counterparts. However, the Italian stencils are made with a different production technique. The design of the letters is clearly not punch-cut into the plates, maybe they are drilled, milled or etched. Details such as the serifs look bold and clumsy, and when using the stencils as they are meant, with viscous sign paint, smaller details easily fade away. So I took my freedom to design a font close to the original design but adding several typographic tweaks to let it shine, hoping to get closer to the intended design idea of these Italian stencils. Excited-Alphabets is a lowercase display font. The letterform is sans-serif with a few appendages to give the letters a life-like and cheerful form. Excited alphabets was born in Frankfurt (Germany) when two ‘almost-neighbours’ met at a coffee shop. Inspired by the illustration of Sumbo Pinheiro, Excited was designed by Harald Geisler and Sumbo Pinheiro. From quirky illustration to font, this was a fun project to work on because each alphabet comes with its own sassy character.
