Vtg Stencil Germany No.101 is modeled after historic stencil plates from Bavaria. The design is a blackletter chancery, a romantic reprise of a style that was common in German writing offices from the 14th to the 16th century. The flourishes stylistically quote the Baroque period. A talented mind, perhaps around 1890, has transformed the textura shapes into a modular stencil system. Many elements are repeated throughout the glyph set - see for example the initial swashes on the letters A, B, U etc. Overall, this decorative blackletter doesn’t look like a stencil design. Maybe it was originally used by a sign painter, and all the typical stencil bridges would have been painted over in the final work. In the 1946 French lettering book “100 Alphabets Publicitaires” (“100 Advertising Alphabets”) is a hand-lettered “Western” font called “Italian". This served as the basis for Cattle Town JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Maribor is a slab serif font with nice shapes, they are both soft and angular. It is perceived calmly and with a twist. Maribor means "Mara`s pinery". The energy of the Universe, reflecting the modification, renewal and change for the better is called Mara; Ancient wise ancestors called it so. Today it is known as the goddess Mara in the Vedic worldview of the Slavic-Aryan peoples. Maribor is a multilingual font, it contains characters for 104 Latin languages and all Slavic, including all capitals for them. There are all major currency signs, including the ruble and the Euro. Many OpenType features allow you to make a variety of compositions; as well as to see the font from the new side thanks to the stylistic sets for the Slavic alphabets.

It’s a multilayer font so every group consists of 4 fonts – Regular, Back, Front, and 3rd Color. The Regular style is for single color use only and the Back, Front, and 3rd Color styles are necessary if you want to achieve a multicolor effect. Position three identical text boxes exactly on top of each other, apply layer font styles, and choose whatever colors you like. You’ll quickly discover that some icons don’t have 3rd Color style. This is not a mistake – a lot of things look good with just two colors. Use it to make logos, illustrations, games, app icons, t-shirts, mugs, cooking books, restaurant menus, interior decorations, invitations, balloons, and any other project where fine crafted food drawing is needed.

In the 1909 edition of the Atkinson Sign Painters’ instruction books is an extra bold sans serif alphabet and numerals called “Advertisers’ Thick and Thin Plug”. This hand lettered display face is now available digitally as Sign Lettering JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

The pattern for this classic typeface was originally called "Viking Oldstyle", from the 1909 H.C. Hansen Type Foundry catalog. To enhance its weathered look, the inside corners have been rounded to simulate ink buildup on metal typeforms. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin and 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan) character sets.

The Madison Ave. family started from Madison Ave. at Fontstruct.com. As my most downloaded font, this was an easy, although not necessarily logical choice to make – regarding taking an existing free font and attempting to offer it for purchase. The font is very basic and simple in its layout, but has achieved popularity over at Dafont with almost 80,000 downloads with its cool, understated nature and inherent sophistication. The original Madison Ave. is now 95 Madison Ave. A couple of glyphs have changed from the original, but mostly the set is the same. The big news here is the availability of multiple variations on the original. Ninety-five refers to the filter settings used to achieve the faint cross lines in the font. The sequence 95-100 provides a gradual fade to solid effect when used together. The other versions use variations on the filter settings that allow each its own distinctive flavor, while at the same time maintaining inherent characteristics of the original. Ninety-five is now joined by 55, 75, 97, 99, 100, 102, 105, 155, 175, 201, 202, and 275. 100 is the solid version which doesn’t contain the trademark lines found in 95. In 95-99, the line width varies to achieve subtle effects. 50 and 85 are distorted by reducing the filter settings in a somewhat minimizing fashion. In 102-205, these are distorted by increasing the filter settings above the normal which is what 100 represents. While some of the effects are extreme and challenge the legibility of text, these can be fun or edgy. They offer a cohesion that can be used to advantage for different projects that require the use of a modern font family.

In the early days of PostScript fonts, I designed a font of leaves called XLeafMeAlone. In 2006 I decided to revisit this topic and the result was two sets of new leaf fonts: MapleOaks and MoreLeaves. MapleOaks contains almost 100 images of maple, oak, and sycamore leaves, and MoreLeaves has almost 100 images of leaves of various other species. There are four MapleOak fonts. They have identical images; only the orientation of the images is different. In MapleOaksUR the tips of the leaves point to the upper right, in MapleOaksDR the tips point down to the right, etc.
