Anyone know where to find a Finno-Ugric Phonetic fonts? Diacritics and IPA (International Phonetics Association) fonts well represented here, but I don't seem to find Finno-Ugric fonts anywhere, not for money nor love. Strange. And I need them for my studies...
Any info HUGELY appreciated

Hi,
First there was no political diskussion to jump in. There was only the short explanation opposit backgrounds of the two newspapers.
Second there was no diskussion about open source vs commercial fonts. The comment was about the association of the term Wirtschaftswunder (rise of the german economics after WW II in the 1950th and 1960th) to typefaces. The typeface TAZ looks much to modern and 21th century. It don't has the needed old fashion attitude.
Third the Typeface Pilsen Plakat was a remake of a printed typeface (czech beer 1930th?) never available as a computer-font. There are a lot of typefaces like this never published from the great vendors. But a few entusiast rebuild them just for fun. A lot of typefaces didn't made it from the hot type to the computer era.
bye bye

Hello, I help host and manage a web site for a Welsh Scout District which is under Scouting UK. Last year the Scouting Association of UK came up with a makeover for their visual branding. Integral to this branding is their insistence on the commercial font The Serif.
For an example of the new The Serif font in use head to the Scout UK web site and check out the graphic "i.VOLUNTEER":

In a recent upgrade for this District web site we looked for a font that might be an acceptable alternative to the commercial font. So far the closest we have found is called SerifA.

Is there a much closer alternative free font to The Serif that we could use to bring us more in line with the National model?

For the record, Benguiat Book, also known as Bankok (a Corel clone), is really the Souvenir by Morris Fuller Benton (1914) (cloned as the Southern by Corel). In the '70's the Benguiat was ITCâ??ized (mainly the lower case) by Benguiat and additional weights were added. The Souvenir, being designed 90 years ago is now free of copyright and can be found in many places as a free font. For example http://www.webpagepublicity.com/free-fonts/s/
Both Souvenir and Benguiat are part of the font collection that came with Corel Draw 4. The Corel Benguiat clone Bankok.ttf can be googled with ease. So, I'd say opt for the Bankok.
Still eager for the Benguiat? I thought most everybody had it as it came with so many Windows programs. So, also easy to find. The American Library Association comes to the rescue. Google tells us:
ASCLA Web Program Officer Page
... Fonts used to create this Web site are Benguiat Book and Arial, which are assumed to be default-installed in most Windows applications. ...
http://archive.ala.org/ascla/ascla_wpo.html - 8k - Cached - Similar pages
At the bottom you'll find this:
Fonts used to create this Web site are Benguiat Book and Arial, which are assumed to be default-installed in most Windows applications. They can be downloaded by clicking on this link [FONTS] . You must then use an archival program (like WinZip) to decompress the files and then install them on your system.
As to be expected the link contains a zip with the Arial and the Benguiat.
