After the Second World War, the Ionic style replaced Modern Face as the favored typeface for newsprint. A couple decades later, it was in turn replaced by the next generation of newspaper fonts, a mix of Old Face, Transitional and Modern Face forms. Rotation was designed by Arthur Ritzel and presented by Stempel/Linotype in 1971 and named for the rotation newsprint machine for which is was particularly suited. The font displays the influence of Old Face design and gives newsprint a feeling of lightness and elegance.

Alfina Notte is a chancery typeface that shows a modern temperament, but is inspired by the eponymous town of Torre Alfina, one of the most beautiful medieval villages of Italy, situated on the edge of the plateau Alfina, a few miles from of Orvieto. The place where is the castle is steeped in history. Its roots date back to the Lombard kingdom (seventh century); later it was under the rule of Monaldeschi (1200-1700) and more recently (1880) the property of the rich French banker Count Edoardo Cahen of Antwerp, who was responsible for the present aspect of the Castle. Alfina Notte is the bold version of Alfina, a type with soft lines, very slender upper cases and thin overlapping strokes; The stylistic alternates are particularly important, and the type is enriched by many, different OpenType features.

Loopo was created as an experiment with rotating forms. The cut of the stencil shows the rotation and creates a reference to motion throughout the font. Characters are created by manipulating the rotations of the stencil which gives the font a round and fluid look.

Prolexia is designed to make the font friendly towards those with dyslexia. All the characters are unique with no rotation or mirroring, this makes it harder for the mind to mix up similar glyphs. The characters are made with the illusion of perspective: this helps orient characters in the correct direction to make mental reorientation harder. KnockType is based on the concept of braille notation in Japanese. It does not support braille notation in other languages. KnockType is not necessarily aimed at facilitating “braille transcription”. It is designed so that someone who understands the grammar of “braille transcription” can instantly transliterate into braille text that was previously transcribed to kana characters, etc. In addition, it allows ink characters to be converted to braille using OpenType features. It is recommended for use in applications that are compatible with OpenType features. If they are not compatible, KnockType is “simply a kana font”. To be a little more specific, it is assumed that KnockType will be used in Adobe’s InDesign and Illustrator applications. If you don't have them, you will not get satisfactory results. Four types of font are available. There are “hasBox&Line”, “hasnotBox&Line”, and the reversed font of each. When displayed on a convex surface, the assumption is that they will be used mainly for printing applications. When displayed on a concave surface, the assumption is that they will be used mainly for writing on braille boards, etc. By printing, you can get a rough idea of the dot positions. It is more effective to match them to the grid size of the braille board.

Sihmitree is a gimmick typeface in which all glyphs have reflective (mirror) or rotational symmetry (or both). Sihmitree has two weights and is caps only, with most of the lower-case letters identical to the upper-case letters. It includes only those accented characters that are symmetrical. The letters of the alphabet are often used to explain symmetry. BCDEK are given as examples of shapes that can easily be formed with symmetry over a horizontal line. AMQTUVWY can easily be formed so that they mirror over a vertical line. Letters HIOX can be formed so they mirror over both horizontal and vertical lines, and as a result they will also have rotational symmetry. Letters NSZ can be formed so that they reproduce themselves with a rotation of 180º. That leaves letters FGJLPR, which are usually considered examples of asymmetry. However, there are script versions of J, L, and R that can be formed with symmetry, and variants of lower-case f and g can be made that are symmetrical. P looks a lot like the thorn character. Some of the numbers also present challenges when trying to form them symmetrically. The symmetrical alphabet is not stylistically harmonious and has limited use other than as an exploration of symmetry.

An edgy little number here; Herman was created using a chiselled marker pen and is handwritten as a slanted, bold font with a distinct marker contrast.
