1 matches view forum post #28385 I am surprised how careless you are. I am typedesigner and make my living designing type, obviously. And here you are, asking someone to steal a font and send it to you. Whoever has FF DIN, only has a license for her-or himself and cannot simply pass it along. Fonts are not copy-protected, but it is still unfair to the original designer to rip-off his work. What would you say if I stole your artwork and sold it to one of my clients?
1 matches view forum post #13461 Question Are you sure they bought a license? In the USA in the late '80s the high courts determined that if you change 3 characters on a font - it was a new font. Many did, and in the process changed the names of the fonts. If they were truly licensed the name would have remained Book Jacket. See what I mean? BTW - I believe Soft Key or one of the others who stole all the fonts and renamed them - may have been the source of the Corel - and if you notice, Corel doesn't give those fonts out anymore...
1 matches view forum post #22299 uploaded image view details for free font #425 The magic of Philippe is that he always manages to keep me busy for hours - even when I have no time! For the comparison I have chosen the q and Q as with these the difference - or lack of that is clear at first sight. I am a bit puzzled by this. I know this font as Prawn Handwrite (WSI 1994), Amazon (SWFTE 1995), KleinsAmazon (Manfred Klein 2000) and Jonas (Manfred Klein 2003, and a Light version 2007). Although I could not find any firm reference to WSI's Prawn Handwrite, rumor has it that that Prawn Handwrite may originally have been an old URW font that came in the package with Windows '95. But I have not been able to find such a thing on any of my old Win95 CD's. We know that WSI and SWFTE did not design fonts. They just re-digitized/adapted/copied existing fonts. I know of no SWFTE font with a creation date later than 1995, when bought by Expert Software who kept selling the fonts without adding new ones - as far as I know. So we may assume that SWFTE's Amazon has to be from before 1996 (creation date May 8, 1995). Manfred Kleins' Amazon (KleinsAmazon) has a creation date of November 3, 2000. In the copyright section of KleinsAmazon Manfred Klein states that the Amazon is his. He wonders who SWFTE may be and says this is theft. (The thief ....missing ... the name ... missing for the rest ...) *) I assume that Manfred Klein's intention was to say that the name was changed by the thief, but used more than the maximum allowed characters in the copyright section. But this raises a question: when SWFTE stole Manfred's font, renaming it, then what was the original one by Manfred? And when was it published? And where? Adding it all up I figure that once upon a time there was a font named ... ? (If there is one who might know it is Philippe!) WSI made a version which is different from the rest. SWFTE made a version which is close to Jonas, but Jonas is rendered completely different. Now, is there a pre 95 version of the Jonas that has disappeared? Or did Manfred Klein also make a version of that unknown original (URW?)? KleinsAmazon and SWFTE's Amazon are (apart from the regular q and the Q) identical except for the metrics. So what happened? Did Manfred rename Amazon to KleinsAmazon to take back his font? And then, again, which font he made did he take back? *) Dieser Font stammt von mir: © Manfred Klein. Im Netz zum Beispiel bei www.fonts-kostenlos.de. Dort wird behauptet: Copyright © 1986-1995 SWFTE International, Ltd. All rights reserved. Wer immer dies sein mag?! Dies ist Diebstahl!
