They are. We just call them bitmap fonts because, at their core, they're just bitmaps made scaleable and converted to TTF (even though most designers don't actually do this). The distortion is just a crazy display thing.

I think that the "i font by core" things needs to go because it messes up the font that is really cool and makes people not want to download it

By the way, tried to preview your Juicy Hunt on my Dell Studio 1537 with 2.0 Core 2duo Pentium with 4 Gigs of RAM and it choked...100% process utilization. What is that monster you've created? :)

Jay,
You are a cutie-pie. Along time ago I wanted to work in the diplomatic core - but due to some, um, black marks in my dossier -- this was not to be the case.
Guess when I'm interested, I listen and observe... so you better stay interesting LOL

as far as i know that the only way to go about it.
well, it depends what functions you are using. To use imagestring and imagestringup functions in PHP you dont need FreeType only GD. It uses the core fonts without anti-aliasing... depends on what you need
eventually you'll need FreeType ;)

No, no -- sorry, I wasn't clear. I can't imagine anything much closer to the lab than Typophilia! <:O
I was asking if you knew of any other current font forums. Not more hard-core than Typophilia, but just more[/i:905f2f8f87]; as it is, I read this forum's, Typophilia's, and maybe MyFonts.com's, and then I'm out of typographic material until another day.
I'd just appreciate it if you could help me add any other forums to my daily rounds, that's all.
