Well, I would have surely tried CreateBitmap(), if it wasn't for it's arguments! I mean, for me at this stage, it will be quite difficult to figure out how to get all the arguments. I've just started off with VC++, and learning since 2 months! Anyway, I'm 100% sure the function is not returning a bitmap. I selected a huge font size (72), still it returned 4 as buffer size! Unless it uses some great compression technology, I don't think that's possible! So I feel it will be totally useless to use that function, since Get... will return the data in two-color bitmap, and I'm pretty sure about this.
I used the same function calls with GDI_NATIVE, and guess what! That one works perfectly![/b:7c66b9065c] So I feel the trouble is still with the DCs! I tried dc.CreateCompatibleDC( GetDC()); instead of NULL, but the result is the same.
Are there any alternate ways to get the bitmap (without displaying it anywhere, of course). If not, then I guess I'll have to use GDI_NATIVE, and spend some time in figuring out how it works. I know it's return type, but don't know as yet how to extract the information out of it! I can solve my problem with this, but it's not exactly what I was looking for.
Your replies have helped a lot, thanx for that! But the problem is still there!

i think i got to the bottom of this...
for those who care: there are some bugs in javascript's escape() function, while encoding UTF-8, unicode characters... the solution is to use your own escaping function that encodes all non-regular chars into a proper UTF-8 code.
i have added this function all over the site, since it would be a problem in other areas as well. please let me know if any noticable problems have arisen from that change. - re: caracura, regular

let's try to make an excuse in cis terms:
'viking' is just a pointer to the real viking particularly the ability to use the real viking's the eye function to interpret particular, and often peculiar, image patterns.

:) Looks nice. But what does it add? Typograf offers more functions and shows a screen full of fonts at the same time which makes browsing much faster.
On the other hand, if you added the function of also looking for fonts in zip files, then, you have a gem.

There are lots of similar script fonts, but I can't identify this particular one. However, you might check out MyFonts.com. They have a function called "What the Font" that's good for identifying product-specific fonts. - re: Anybody have a clue what font this is?

ok, try another thing... just copy the .ttf files to your windows/fonts directory... thats all the install function does, it copies the file to that directory.. so you do it yourself... also, i hope you dont have a lot of fonts (around 1000) because thats when funny things start happening with windows

Bob, Analia uses (used) Font Creator v5 - www.high-logic.com - a program though not as sophisticated as the top-of-the-bill programs, is perfectly capable to render good glyphs. That is, if you get the settings right and your bitmaps are of good quality. But that, and specially the last, goes for any font maker program. So we are not talking about the lack of quality of design of a font, we are talking about the lack of quality of the rendering of the glyphs as a result of using a 'tool' without trying to understand it's function.
And, yes, you are right, Bob. What would The Kat know about typography? A Kat doesn't know about typography. A Kat can not know about typography. Right?
But then, who is The Kat? - re: johnlennon, normal
