I'm looking for a freeware celtic font similar to Valhalla or Ale and Wenches. Those 2 fonts are beautiful but do not support lower case or upper case or both look the same.
Would be really happy if someone could help.

All lower case, all upper case and all figures ... at least.
But, much easier to see what your problem might be, what font are we talking about?

Is this upper case or lower case?

I would definitely contact them and tell them that they owe you since the font is not free for commercial use.
If your commercial fees are based on per-case basis, charge on the high end for not contacting you prior to publishing it.
But then again, I don't know much about selling fonts and enforcing copyrights. From business perspective you seem to have a very good case.
They will probably direct you to some design company that did the graphic for them. IMO, somebody has to be held responsible...

Does anyone know what font was used for the lower case letters and numbers. The upper case is Vergennes. I was looking at Adobe Garamond italic and Caslon italic OSF, but they aren't a true match. Thanks, Merrill

Oops, I compared with the 1979, not with the Mata. 1979, the clone indeed, has same glyphs for upper case as for lower case. And you are right Swallow: Mata upper case matches except for the 'A', which, as you say is most probably a flipped 'V' with some modification to the ends of the strokes.
Solved. Thank you.One of those days when it pays off to not to be careful :)

You will have to add outlines, condense the C, and modify the L, a and s. In this pict the size of the capitals is somewhat smaller than the lower case. About 80% I gamble.
Or, you modify the font itself, making it bold. Then you can also easily condense the C and modify the L and a. The s is more trouble, but can be done. The setting for bold would be 18 horizontal and vertical for the lower case and 20 for the upper case.
There are a few characters like the f and the 2 that behave weird when making them bold. There you must first change the direction of the outlines.
Have to go out now for a few hours. If you need more help let me know.
