Needed a break from font IDs and had to sort the collection and get rid of the dups. Still amazing how many different names a type can have and how everyone is 'borrowing' from everyone - including the big names ...

My church spent way too much money (imho) on a graphics consultant to design a logo. Now they come back with this list of "fonts to be used" with the logo. To go out and purchase them from Adobe for all 20 users would totally break the budget.
Can anyone suggest comparable fonts to "Berkeley Oldstyle" and "Gil Sans" that might be in the public domain, or at least available from a less expensive digital type foundry?

I wish I knew my freebies better - but I'm sorry I don't. However, if $2 a font won't break the budget - you can have some nice Font Bank http://www.buyfonts.com/fontlist.htm choices like Abbess or Chicadee -- or better and more up-to-date have you ever checked out the 2 Peas - $2.99 fonts - http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/shop.asp?derMars=110619
I believe their Autumn Leaves collection are rip offs of well-known "sophisticated" fonts...

The font you are loonking for is a Commercial Font so has been taken off most free sites so is very hard to find as you have found.
but if you are willing to take a look at the site i have given you you will be pleased. as the law states that the name of a font is "trade marked" the font can be slightly diffrent and not break the copyright law; but i think it is so hard to tell any slite chages if any;) its worth it.
