The Wild West meets Russia and India in this heavy duty display face. Although it's uppercase only, most of the characters vary between the uppercase and lowercase alphabets, so it's easy to give your text a hand-made feel by mixing up your cases. OpenType savvy applications can really exploit the extra features of this font. Engage contextual alternates, and G, C, L and alternate form of E will change when placed before a letter with a crossbar to create some cool effects (see the CK and LE combinations in the poster). There are standard ligatures for ff and FF combinations, and discretionary ligatures for 'and', 'the', 'No', 'Mc' and 'Co'. When Patricia Lillie was growing up, she thought the coolest thing in the world would be finding her own name listed in a library catalog. The fantasy came true in 1986 when her first children's book was published. Five more followed. The thrill of seeing her work on library shelves hasn't abated, but today, Lillie is just as likely to see one of her typefaces on the cover of a book. She has created several display faces and image fonts. My first typeface designs were based on lettering I'd done while working for a library, doing graphics work for the children's section," she explains. "I currently do a lot of web design, but type is my favorite thing." The Tickles (ITC Tickle and ITC Tickle Too) are Lillie's first ITC typeface releases. In late 1988 or early 1989 I noticed that the circular form of the sickle and the linear form of the hammer could be used to form all the letters of the alphabet. Raw herring is the Dutch sashimi. Every year at the beginning of the summer a new batch of freshly caught herring arrives at Holland’s quays. Fishing boats actually race each other to be the first boat bringing it home. The fresh herring is called ‘Hollandsche Nieuwe’ (Holland’s new). This typeface, designed by Donald Roos, is based on the typography of Dutch fish shops and stalls.
