Fabrice is a font based on my handwriting, which has been reworked to be turned into a font. I write differently with each pen I use, and this font corresponds to my handwriting while using a pen I refill myself with special inks. It contains a wide range of characters, and will be readable anywhere, yet different!

Conceived specifically for intensive editorial use, whether it is in newspapers, magazines or digital media, Abril is a font family of two worlds. The titling weights, based on a contemporary revamp of classic Didone styles, display both neutrality and strong presence on the page, attracting the reader’s attention with measured tension in its curves, good color and high contrast. It also features typographic niceties such as ornaments, borders, special dingbats and alternate letters and numbers that propose a broad palette of tools to the designer. The text weights are more closely inspired by both, 19th century slab serifs and scotch roman types. They maintain consistency with the headline styles, and at first glance may appear to have the same shapes only with lower contrast. However, in reality the letter forms of Abril Text were engineered from scratch to achieve a color, texture and overall width that allow using the font comfortably in the most challenging environments for continuous reading, such as newspapers. This also makes it a great font family for pocketbooks and magazines. Abril competes, in terms of economy of space, head to head with some newspaper classics such as Utopia or Nimrod, but featuring a more contemporary look and feel; and unlike them, includes a full set of small caps with numbers and punctuation. The four main text weights of Abril Text were also manually hinted which grants the possibility of a smooth transition from printed media to web platform. Abril consists of 8 text styles and 12 display styles, all of them containing the standard TypeTogether character set that supports over 50 languages including those from Central and Northern Europe.

Abril is an extension of the Abril typographic system that was engineered as a response to a very specific requirement from the editorial design community: a low contrast typeface for head- lines. Given its broad range of styles though, Abril deserves to be considered a separate font family on its own. Based on the original text styles of Abril, the letter shapes are sturdy, very legible, and deliver a newsy and trustworthy feel. The accented editorial style of the Scotch Roman finds continuity in this new type family, but some of the details have been ironed out for improved performance in headline, both in print and on screen. The family is conceived as four series of different widths, with four weights in each series plus matching italics, a total of 32 fonts. This wide range of styles allows for setting titles at almost any size. The wider series are aimed for smaller point sizes while the con- densed weights can deliver a striking and cohesive appearance as front cover headlines. Abril was designed as a versatile tool for those graphic and web designers looking for a workhorse with high impact. It is also an excellent companion for the rest of the Abril type family: Abril Titling and Abril Narrow.

Bric Sans is squared, it was inspired by colleges typefaces. Capitals aren't contrasted, giving a raw aspect to this typeface. The variety of styles makes this sporty typeface ideal for editorial projects, posters, packaging, branding, etc… The default setting of the numerals is tabular, proportional figures are available through OpenType Features. Bric Sans consists in a 12 styles family, including 6 weights in Condensed from UltraThin to ExtraBold. Each font includes OpenType Features such as Proportional Figure, Tabular Figures, Numerators, Superscript, Denominators, Scientific Inferiors, Subscript, Ordinals, automatic arrows and Fractions. The fonts have an extended characters set to support Central, Eastern and Western European languages.

This assertively Art Deco face is based on Cubist Bold, designed by John W. Zimmerman for Barnhart Brothers & Spindler in 1929, and takes its name from one of the co-founders—with Pablo Picasso—of the Cubist Movement. Both versions of this font contain the complete Unicode 1252 (Latin) and Unicode 1250 (Central European) character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

Standard fabric (or textile) care symbols used for creating clothing labels. This font has temperature setting symbols for washing, drying and ironing. It also includes bleach and dry cleaning symbols. This font uses a method that allows combinations of the washing, drying and dry cleaning symbols to create more symbols. Therefore, this font actually has a total of 73 unique fabric care symbols that can be created.

Sew What JNL is a little novelty font that gives the appearance of letters stitched into fabric. This font contains a limited character set.

The Vtg Stencil DIN fonts were developed to made the most common stencil type of Germany available in digital type. Hem and Haw SRF is another Ray Larabie original for Stella Roberts Fonts. Rebuilt from Ray's former freeware design "Stitchen", the lettering looks as if it were stitched into fabric. The font now is more complete with foreign characters and additional accents, punctuation and currency symbols. Inspiration for font design takes on many shapes and forms. It can be vintage source material, visualized concepts or simply suggestions made by others. In an email conversation with Kevin Redekop (the Principal Designer for FabArts Creative Fabricators in Canada) who had purchased a number of Jeff Levine Fonts, a sample sketch of a desired stencil font was provided. This set the wheels into motion for the drawing and production of Saskatoon Stencil JNL.

The Oslo Stitch is a technique used in Nålebinding, a kind of fabric creation predating knitting and crochet. I have no particular interest in Nålebinding (nor in knitting), but I needed a name with ‘stitch’ in it and this is what I found! Oslo Stitch font is a nice, handmade, all caps font, which you can use for your book covers, posters and anything else that needs a bit of stitching up.

No prizes for guessing this font family was inspired by the 1950s - the sounds (Buddy, Eddie, Elvis), the styles (polka dots, petticoats and Dior's New Look), and the kitsch, from furry dice above the dashboard to plaster ducks over the mantlepiece! A particular point of reference is the furnishings and fabrics of the Fifties (with their distinctive kidney shapes and angular curves) as showcased in the Festival of Britain 1951. In mid 2001, P22 was approached by a Daniel Garrison, a Classics scholar at Northwestern University about possibly digitizing a long lost "Garamond" typeface. This font was used by Johannes Herbst (a.k.a. Ioannes Oporinus) in 1543 to publish Andreas Vesalius' "On the Fabric of the Human Body" (De humani corporis fabrica) in Basel. The story of the development of this font takes a few twists and almost becomes forgotten itself over time.Forteen years later it is available to the public.

Diablo Light was originally called Fabric and was issued by the Farmer, Little & Co. foundry in New York. We liked everything about this font except for the lowercase 'g'. So we changed the offending letter, but for purity kept the orginal as an alternate. We created a bold version of Diablo Light, with minor changes to accomodate the bolder stroke weight. Although the original design is over a century old, the style seems to have an up-to-date look.

Foundry Fabriek was inspired by the concepts behind industrial fabrication, where and how parts of materials or structures are united. The systematic grid, formed by stencil shapes, is indicative of the work of Wim Crouwel, consultant on the development of this typeface. The compact character widths of Foundry Fabriek are consistent over the five weight progression, giving flexibility for a variety of applications. The characteristic letterforms have an extra dynamic in large scale, perhaps in cast concrete or laser cut metal, to form integrated components in architectural or signage projects.

Doublethink was developed from lettering drawn in the 1960s by Vinko Ožić-Pajić and used on the shop fronts of Yugoslavian state-owned clothes company Standard Konfekcija. The original design has been reinterpreted and expanded and is offered as a two weight typeface—Doublethink Medium and Doublethink Bold Inline. Standard Konfekcija was established first as a military fabric company and later became the premier fashion brand outlet in the Communist state of Yugoslavia. It is famous for being the first shop in the country to offer plastic bags (Standard Konfekcija stores ceased trading after the fall of Communism).
